Jeffrey Lurie is one of the NFL’s great owners and a man that takes his community involvement just as seriously as he does the Eagles schedule.
After a couple of days silent, the Eagles owner issued a statement on Tuesday after he took part in and lead a team discussion on racial issues alongside coach Doug Pederson on Monday in the aftermath of violence and looting following the death of George Floyd last week.
According to Tim McManus of ESPN.com, Lurie asked to be involved in the team’s virtual meeting show his support and learn more about the players’ experiences and emotions during these traumatic times.
Lurie made it clear that the Eagles players are extended his family, and families deal with things together.
The Eagles as a team were led in dialogue by wide receiver DeSean Jackson, quarterback Carson Wentz, safety Rodney McLeod, defensive tackle Malik Jackson and tight end Zach Ertz before Eagles coaches joined in as well.
The coronavirus pandemic, Floyd’s death, and the impending election cycle will be among the many distractions Doug Pederson and the Eagles will have to navigate this season.
Monday and Tuesday were great starts.
