King County won’t press charges against Geno Smith over DUI arrest

Not long after, Smith shared a message on Twitter asking for fans to hold back on judging him.

According to a report by Brady Henderson at ESPN, the King County Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to press charges against Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith stemming from his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of DUI.

Smith was arrested the night after (2:10 a.m.) the team’s final game of the season against the Cardinals.

The police report stated Smith was “agitated” during his encounter with law enforcement and had been driving 96 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Not long after, Smith shared a message on Twitter asking for fans to hold back on judging him.

According to Henderson’s reporting, Smith’s blood alcohol level was found to be well below the legal limit in Washington State. Apparently, a backlog in blood tests caused the delay.

We will update this story with any further statements from Smith on the matter.

Police allege Seahawks QB Geno Smith was agitated, driving 96mph before arrest

Here’s more details from the police report, per Brady Henderson at ESPN.

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was arrested on suspicion of a DUI late on Sunday night. Smith has asked for reserved judgment until more facts come out. Police say Smith was driving erratically and going 96 mph in a 60 mph zone. When he was pulled over, Smith refused a breathalyzer test and was allegedly verbally abusive and uncooperative with the officers.

Here’s more details from the police report, per Brady Henderson at ESPN.

“According to the arrest report, the state trooper “detected a strong odor of intoxicants and observed the driver had bloodshot, watery eyes.” Smith told the state trooper he had some wine earlier in the night but had stopped drinking 90 minutes before he was pulled over. Smith declined to take a preliminary breath test and a judge issued a search warrant for a blood draw. Smith was taken to a hospital where he became agitated before the blood draw, even with the Seahawks’ director of team security present to try to calm Smith down, according to the report. Restraints were used to complete the process, troopers wrote.”

King County is awaiting results for Smith’s test from the WSP crime lab before deciding whether or not to press charges.
