Chiefs, GEHA pledge support to military families through Folds of Honor

A new partnership is born with the Chiefs and GEHA supporting military families via Folds of Honor.

The Kansas City Chiefs and their partner GEHA (Government Employees Health Association) have announced a joint collaboration supporting military families.

On Monday, the Chiefs and GEHA announced that they will team up to support a nonprofit organization called Folds of Honor. This group provides scholarships to the family members of U.S. military personnel who have been wounded or killed in service to their country.

Here is some more information on Folds of Honor and their founder from the press release:

“Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot who served three tours in Iraq, founded Folds of Honor in 2007 when he realized the devastating realities families face when a loved one in uniform is fallen or disabled. Since then, the organization has awarded more than 29,000 scholarships totaling over $145 million in educational impact across all 50 states as well as Guam, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Italy, Germany, the Philippines and the United Kingdom. The program includes private financial tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education assistance for spouses and dependents.”

“We are grateful for the life-changing support from GEHA and the Kansas City Chiefs,” Lt. Col. Dan Rooney said via press release. “These academic scholarships are given to military spouses and children who deserve and need our help. GEHA and the Chiefs recognize the importance of an education and are doing something positive about it.”

“GEHA has been a strong partner to the Chiefs over the past few years, and as our relationship has grown and evolved, we’ve remained jointly focused on creating new opportunities to give back to our local community, as well as GEHA’s member base of more than 2 million federal employees, retired military and their families,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said via press release. “We are proud to work with Folds of Honor and GEHA to recognize military families for their dedicated service and bravery throughout this upcoming NFL season.”

Additionally, the Chiefs and GEHA announced that they will support the Kansas City chapter of Folds of Honor by co-sponsoring their 10th-anniversary gala set to take place on Nov. 13, 2021.

Chiefs announce naming rights agreement with GEHA for field at Arrowhead Stadium

The field at Arrowhead Stadium will have a name beginning in the 2021 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced a new agreement with GEHA for naming rights to the field at Arrowhead Stadium. At the start of the 2021 NFL season, the team will begin referring to their home as “GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.”

A developing deal between GEHA and the Chiefs for the naming rights of Arrowhead Stadium was previously reported ahead of the 2020 NFL season, but the team refuted the report. Now it appears they’ve revisited the idea for the future.

“We are extremely proud and excited to announce our naming rights agreement with GEHA. When we set out to find a partner for the field at Arrowhead, it was critical to identify a national leader that shares our core values, as well as a deep connection to the local community and respect for Chiefs Kingdom,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said, via press release. “Our relationship with GEHA over the last few years has only served to reinforce the alignment between our two organizations and proven their strong, long-standing relationship with the local community. This expanded partnership will continue to build lasting health and wellness programs that support the team, GEHA and our community.”

Back in July of 2019, GEHA became the club’s Exclusive Health, Dental and Vision Plan Partner. They’ve collaborated on a number of ventures since, including the Chiefs’ 2019 documentary series, “The Franchise.” They’ve also worked together on several initiatives serving the community in Kansas City.

According to the press release, the agreement for the naming rights of the field runs through the team’s current lease agreement with the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority.

Report: Chiefs could sell naming rights to field at Arrowhead Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs apparently already have a partner in mind.

The field that the Kansas City Chiefs play on at Arrowhead Stadium could have a name during the 2020 NFL season and beyond.

According to a new report from Sports Business Journal’s Terry Lefton, the Chiefs are closing in on a deal with a current team sponsor, Government Employees Health Association (GEHA), for the naming rights of the field at Arrowhead Stadium. GEHA, the team and QB Patrick Mahomes announced a multi-year partnership back in July of 2019.

GEHA became the main sponsor of the Chiefs’ recent documentary series, “The Franchise.” Together the team and GEHA have since collaborated on a number of initiatives serving the community in Kansas City.

Why has the Kansas City organization decided to, after many years without a named field, alter their course? I think you could point no further than potential lost revenues in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This would act as another way for the team to keep earnings up during a very challenging time.

So what would the field at Arrowhead Stadium be called under this new agreement with GEHA? One could assume “GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium” would be the choice, but that remains to be seen.
