Jets Wednesday injury report: Practice window opened for Kenny Yeboah

The Jets opened the 21-day practice window for tight end Kenny Yeboah Wednesday, designating him for return from injured reserve.

The Jets returned to the practice field Wednesday as they prepare for Sunday’s key divisional game against the Buffalo Bills. One note from Wednesday is that the Jets opened the 21-day practice window for tight end Kenny Yeboah, who had been on injured reserve all season with a hamstring injury.

Yeboah was a full participant in practice Wednesday. When he returns, he could help on special teams with the Jets still having Tyler Conklin, C.J. Uzomah and Jeremy Ruckert available.

Sam Eguavoen (hip), Chazz Surratt (ankle) and Billy Turner (finger) all missed practice. Garrett Wilson popped up as a limited participant with an elbow injury.

Here’s the full injury report from Wednesday for the Jets.

Jets hold players-only meeting Tuesday, hope to ‘get out of this funk’

Jets hold players-only meeting Tuesday, hope to ‘get out of this funk’

Following Sunday’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, both wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Tyler Conklin hinted that a players-only meeting could be on the horizon as the Jets try to right a ship that has led them to a 4-5 record entering a key stretch that includes games against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. That meeting happened Tuesday.

Via ESPN’s Rich Cimini:

“The guys talked, and we had the floor,” wide receiver Garrett Wilson said during his weekly spot on the “Bart & Hahn Show” on ESPN New York radio. “It was just us. We got to make sure we’re all on the same page about where we’re at and how the hell we get out of this funk, man. That was really the message. When it comes from one of your teammates, it always hits different. It always resonates a little bit more.”

The Jets made a surprise move to help get out of the funk and provide a spark on offense as they released running back Michael Carter in his third season with the team, a stint that included leading the Jets in rushing as a rookie. Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton took to X to express his sadness on losing Carter.

The Jets certainly seem to have lost a great teammate, but the Jets needed to find a way to create a spark on offense. They may not have needed to straight up release Carter, but the move does allow the Jets to utilize Israel Abanikanda more.

The Jets will get their next chance to get out of their funk Sunday in Buffalo, a game the Jets really could use to get back to 5-5 and back in the playoff mix, especially against a team that just fired their offensive coordinator in Ken Dorsey and will now have quarterbacks coach and former Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady now running the offense for the 5-5 Bills.

We’ll see this week if that players-only meeting, plus the addition of Abanikanda, are what the Jets needed to right the ship in 2023.

Garrett Wilson sounded so defeated while failing to find positives in the Jets’ lifeless offense

A miserable Garrett Wilson won’t be rescued by Aaron Rodgers.

To say the New York Jets have an anemic offense would be an understatement.

New York is not only third-last in scoring per game (16 points) but it’s also scored just eight total touchdowns. In nine games. That’s right, Gang Green is averaging less than one touchdown every week. Woof.

Unfortunately, for some of the Jets’ bright young players, like star receiver Garrett Wilson, none of these problems are new. Under the guise of Zach Wilson trying (and failing) to play quarterback, the Jets offense was also atrocious in 2022. It’s part of the reason New York traded for Aaron Rodgers in the first place and why (delusional) people think the veteran still might come back this year after tearing an Achilles.

After the Jets took a 16-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on the chin on Sunday night, Garrett Wilson sounded impossibly defeated. At this point, with an offense that hasn’t gained traction for nearly two years, it’s hard to blame the promising playmaker:

Here’s a full transcript of Wilson’s comments:

“I don’t know what y’all [reporters] want me to say, man. I’m tired of this, man. I wanna play better. The whole offense wants to play better … we come out every week trying to make it happen, and, you know, it’s frustrating.”

To Wilson’s credit, he’s done his part. He’s on pace for a 100-plus catch season with over 1,200 yards and has really been the only consistently excellent piece of the Jets’ offensive attack. It’s just that everyone else stinks (namely Zach Wilson and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett), and it’s dragging the entire operation into the ground. These are not the kinds of trick plays a functional offense calls in a midseason game:

Plus, it’s not as if New York didn’t have options to find a more capable starting quarterback at the trade deadline. (For one, not adding Josh Dobbs is looking mighty silly right now.)

By no means is New York’s season over at 4-5. But it’s getting increasingly harder to imagine this team even staying afloat for an AFC playoff bid come December. That’s just woeful the Jets offense is.

Garrett Wilson says players-only meeting could happen: ‘I want to play better’

Garrett Wilson says players only meeting could happen: ‘I want to be better’

Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson might feel like he is on an island. The wide receivers outside of Wilson have struggled to create separation and make plays consistently.

Frustrations started boiling over in the locker room as the players spoke to the media after Sunday’s 16-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders to fall to 4-5.

Wilson expressed his disappointment following Sunday’s game, in which Wilson led the team again in receiving yards with 93 on nine catches.

“I don’t know what y’all want me to say, man,” Wilson said. “I’m tired of this, man. I want to play better. The whole offense wants to play better. We’ve been saying what we’ve been trying to do. We come out every week trying to make it happen. It’s frustrating.”

Wilson also added that a players-only meeting could be on the table.

Something has to change as the season is quickly becoming lost at 4-5 and the team now sitting 13th in the playoff standings. They are only one game out of a playoff spot, but now have to jump a handful of teams and have lost to the Raiders and Chargers, who are above them in the standings.

Wilson was as dejected as he has been since coming into the league as the offense continues to sputter under his second offensive coordinator in as many seasons in the NFL. He’s also taking on more of a leadership role. Perhaps he will be the one leading a meeting, if it comes to fruition.

5 takeaways from Jets’ embarrassing 16-12 loss to Raiders

Here are five immediate takeaways from the Jets’ devastating 16-12 defeat to the Raiders in Week 10.

The New York Jets have fallen short again, losing 16-12 to the Las Vegas Raiders in embarrassing fashion on Sunday Night Football in Week 10. The Jets have lost two in a row and now hold a 4-5 record ahead of a daunting two-game stretch against the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins.

It was yet another shaky offensive outing from Zach Wilson and company, who were unable to find the end zone for the second straight game. With Aaron Rodgers hoping to make a miraculous return, Robert Saleh’s squad is trending in the wrong direction in the AFC playoff picture despite the defense playing lights out.

Following Sunday night’s disappointing loss, here are five immediate takeaways from the game.

The New York Jets fell flat on Monday Night Football in Week 9, losing to the Los Angeles Chargers 27-6 at home. With the lopsided defeat, the Jets are now 4-4 on the season ahead of a matchup versus the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10.

It was another week for the Jets where the offense failed to generate much and the defense did as much as it could to put the team in a position to win. The ending of the game was fitting for the Jets as Tyler Conklin caught a pass from Zach Wilson on a fourth-and-goal and he was stopped at the one-yard line in the final moments.
