Fight week: The Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul exhibition.

FIGHT WEEK

FLOYD MAYWEATHER, 44, RETURNS TO THE RING AGAINST YOUTUBER LOGAN PAUL IN A PAY-PER-VIEW EXHIBITION IN MIAMI.

***

DANIEL DUBOIS (15-1, 14 KOs)
vs. BOGDAN DINU (20-2, 16 KOs)

  • When: Saturday, June 5
  • Where: Telford International Centre, Telford, England
  • TV/Stream: BT Sport (in U.K.)
  • Division: Heavyweights
  • At stake: No titles
  • Pound-for-pound ranking: None
  • Odds: NA
  • Also on the card: Archie Sharp vs. Marcio Soza, junior lightweights; Nathan Heaney vs. Iliyan Markov, middleweights
  • Prediction: Dubois KO 6

Background: Dubois, the highly touted heavyweight prospect, begins the rebuilding process after his 10th-round knockout loss to Joe Joyce this past November. The 23-year-old Londoner was fighting Joyce on even terms when he retired because of a left eye-socket injury, which turned out to be an orbital fracture. Dubois is fully healed and hungry to get back in the win column, which might be bad news for Dinu. The 34-year-old Romanian has had success against second-tier opposition but he was stopped against elite foes Jarrell Miller (KO 4) and Kubrat Pulev (KO 7) in 2018 and 2019. He knocked out journeymen Osborn Machimana and Frank Bluemle since that setback, the latter fight having taken place this past October. Dinu matches Dubois in size – they’re both 6-foot-5, 240-something – but not in ability. The Englishman figures to make a strong statement.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. (50-0, 27 KOs)
vs. LOGAN PAUL (0-1, 0 KOs)

  • When: Sunday, June 6
  • Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami
  • TV/Stream: Pay-per-view
  • Cost: $49.99
  • Division: Mayweather has 160-pound limit, Paul 190-pound limit
  • At stake: No titles (six-round exhibition)
  • Pound-for-pound ranking: None
  • Odds: NA
  • Also on the card: Badou Jack vs. TBA, light heavyweights (tentative); Jarret Hurd vs. Luis Arias, junior middleweights
  • Prediction: None
  • Background: Attention! This isn’t an actual sporting contest; it’s a glorified sparring session between a great boxer and a YouTube personality who has almost no idea what he’s doing in the ring. As long as you’re aware of all that and you still want to pay the 50 bucks to watch, go for it. Mayweather, 44, returns to the ring for the first time since an exhibition with Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018. The Hall of Famer will give up six inches in height and around 30 pounds against Paul but that isn’t relevant given the vast gap in ability. Mayweather is expected to toy with Paul until he decides to take him out, if that’s what he chooses to do. Paul deserves some respect. One, he has the courage to step into the ring with an accomplished boxer. And, two, he and brother Jake Paul reportedly are spending time in the gym in an effort to become proficient in boxing. Logan Paul has fought twice, once in an exhibition with fellow YouTuber KSI and again against KSI in a sanctioned bout. Paul lost a split decision in the November 2019 fight. Badou Jack was scheduled to face Jean Pascal in a rematch of their December 2019 bout, which Pascal won by a split decision. However, Pascal was removed from the show after he tested positive for PEDs. It’s not clear whether organizers will be able to find a suitable opponent for Jack.

Also fighting this weekend: Brandon Robinson (15-2, 10 KOs) faces Genc Pllana (8-3-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout in Philadelphia (BXNGTV.COM).

Badou Jack on his rematch with Jean Pascal: ‘I’m going to win every round’

Badou Jack on his rematch with Jean Pascal on June 6: “I’m going to win every round.”

The way Badou Jack sees it, he could be 3-1 in his last four fights. And even the loss in his projection was in part because of bad luck.

The reality? The former super middleweight titleholder is 1-2-1 in his last four, including a split-decision setback against Jean Pascal at 175 pounds that he will have the opportunity to avenge on the Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul card Saturday.

The other loss came against Marcus Browne when he had a cut on his forehead so massive it seemed his brain could’ve fallen out. He last fought in November, when he outpointed journeyman Blake McKernan.

“I lost that fight,” he told Boxing Junkie, referring to the unanimous-decision loss to Browne. “I have no excuses. Everyone saw what happened. I lost that fight fair and square. The one was because of boxing politics, in my opinion.

“It’s it what it is, boxing politics. Now I have a new trainer. We’ve made small adjustments so I can finish these guys and not worry about boxing politics.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD99YgcvWP0

Jack lived up to his reputation as a slow starter against Pascal, at least according to the judges. He lost the first five rounds of the December 2019 fight on all three scorecards, going down in Round 4.

The Las Vegas-based Swede roared back — putting Pascal down in Round 12 — to make it a close fight but he ended up on the wrong end of the decision. Judge Julie Lederman scored it for him 114-112 but Barry Lindenman and Nelson Vazquez had Pascal winning by the same score.

Jack (23-3-3, 13 KOs) doesn’t believe he deserved to lose all five rounds but he acknowledged that he has had the tendency to fall behind early in some fights, the result of his patient, break-them-down style.

Among the adjustments he and the new trainer, Jonathan Banks, are working on: Get to work at the opening bell.

“I’m going to win every round in this fight,” he said. “I’m not looking to give anything away. We’re working on things in the gym. You’ll see. I’m going to win every round. That’s it. They can call me a slow starter … in the past.”

If Jack sounds like a brash youngster, that’s because he feels like one even at 37. He said he feels strong in the gym and runs as far and as fast as he ever did. He’s fit. Plus, he has a wealth of experience – a solid amateur background and 12 years as a pro – from which to draw.

Of course, he has nothing on Pascal (35-6-1, 20 KOs) took up the sport at a younger age and has been a professional for 16 years. Jack believes he’s fresher than his rival.

“Obviously he’s doing something right,” Jack said of Pascal. “He’s beaten a lot of good fighters. And he’s fought everybody. He has a lot more mileage on him even though he’s only a year older than I am, though.

“I’m still here, going strong. I’m still learning, still feeling great. I still have a lot left. You’ll see.”

Floyd Mayweather could fight Jake Paul after Logan Paul

Floyd Mayweather could fight Jake Paul after Logan Paul, according to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

Editor’s note: This article was originally published on DAZN.com.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe likes the idea of setting up Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Jake Paul after his client takes care of Logan Paul on June 6 in Miami. However, he dismissed suggestions that the 50-0 boxing legend could follow through on his threat to beat both brothers in one night.

Things got heated at the official media day for the Mayweather vs. Logan Paul exhibition, but it was the YouTube star’s younger brother and fellow social media celebrity Jake who took the spotlight.

Jake, who is 3-0 in sideshow boxing fights and recently knocked out retired UFC fighter Ben Askren, got up in Mayweather’s face before snatching the baseball cap off the Michigan man’s head and running away.

The brash personality even went as far as to get a tattoo added to his collection that made light of the viral moment, reading “gotcha hat”.

Speaking to TMZ, Ellerbe said that if Jake wants a piece of Mayweather, they can arrange that after the June 6 event, one nobody is giving Logan a snowball’s chance in hell of winning.

“Realistically, he could [fight both brothers on one night],” he said, “but no … from a business standpoint, no. [Floyd] and Logan are gonna have a great exhibition on the 6th of June and the whole world will be entertained.”

Of course, the “business standpoint” is that Mayweather vs. Logan Paul will generate a huge amount of revenue even though it’s not akin to the real challenges that made Mayweather the star that he is today. Meanwhile, Jake’s marginal superiority to Logan between the ropes means they will probably build to that exhibition on a separate night and make even more money.

With that being the case, there really is no point in giving away a 2-for-1 on one show despite an allegedly-angry Mayweather’s threats to the Paul brothers at the media day last week that he would mow through both of them in quick succession.

Logan Paul didn’t mind Jake Paul stealing his shine with Floyd Mayweather brawl

Logan Paul didn’t mind Jake Paul stealing his shine with the Floyd Mayweather brawl on Thursday.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Thursday was supposed to be about Logan Paul, not his brother Jake Paul. After all, Logan is fighting Floyd Mayweather on June 6 in a boxing exhibition. But Jake was at their press event, and he stole the show.

“It’s always a f*cking spectacle with that kid,” Logan said of his little brother.

About 10 minutes prior, after Logan and Mayweather held a press conference, Jake plucked the cap Mayweather was wearing straight from his head and ran off with it as dozens of reporters surrounded them. From there, all hell broke loose with fists and death threats flying from an irate Mayweather.

Once the chaos subsided, Logan emerged from the bowels of Hard Rock Stadium to speak.

“Yeah, he told me he was gonna do it,” Logan said of Jake’s bold stunt. “I told him not to.”

But did Logan mean it? After all, the mayhem caused by Jake brought a lot of attention to his fight with Mayweather.

“This sh*t is so personal. This sh*t is so f*cking personal,” Logan said. “I thought this sh*t was gonna be kind of cute, go and put on a good show. It’s gonna be a f*cking fight, bro. It’s gonna be a war.”

He continued, “Floyd did look pretty emotional. He was angry. He can act cool all he wants on stage, but I think my brother’s kind of doing my job for me.”

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Jake Paul has done a lot of annoying mixed martial arts fighters on social media since he knocked out Ben Askren. But when he annoyed one of the greatest boxers of all time face to face Thursday, he paid the price.

Jake, who attended a news conference for brother Logan Paul’s upcoming exhibition match against Floyd Mayweather at Hard Rock Stadium, got into a physical altercation when he faced off with Mayweather in front of cameras.

Paul and Mayweather jawed away at one another as a large crowd of reporters surrounded them. That’s when Paul took it one step further.

“Got your hat!” Paul said as he swiped Mayweather’s white cap. From there, all hell broke loose.

“Don’t disrespect me!” Mayweather yelled after the two were pulled apart. “Let’s go!” Paul responded, with torn clothing.

As Paul was restrained, Mayweather charged back at the YouTube star. From there, the irate former boxing champ appeared to land a series of blows. Once pulled apart again, a ballistic Mayweather hollered that he’d kill Paul.

“I’ll kill that motherf—-r!” Mayweather repeated.

Shortly after the altercation, Paul took to Twitter to taunt and troll Mayweather some more.

The chaotic situation comes just two weeks after Paul was confronted by Daniel Cormier at UFC 261, which did not escalate to violence.

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul pay-per-view event on Showtime takes place June 6 at Hard Rock Stadium.
