Clemson at Florida State: Three things to know

Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence, the Heisman hopeful, is expected back after a two-game absence due to a positive COVID-19 test. He returned to practice this week and is expected to play for the first time since Oct. 24 against Syracuse.
Clemson enters on an 0-3 ATS skid, and the Over has cashed in each of its past four outings. As favorites of 26 or more points, the Tigers are just 1-4 ATS this season, including 1-1 ATS in two road games in that situation.
Florida State also enters on an 0-3 ATS slide, averaging just 18.3 points per game on offense while allowing 42.3 PPG during the three-game span. The Seminoles have allowed at least 28 points in each of their past six games against FBS opponents.

Money line (ML)

The Tigers (-10000) should win this game rather easily, but risking $10 to win a dime? No thanks. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

FLORIDA STATE +35 (-106) was dumped 38-22 at NC State last weekend, and it was trampled 41-17 at home by Pittsburgh in its most recent home game on Nov. 7. Still, FSU has at least looked respectable on its home field this season, going 2-1 straight up and 1-2 ATS in the past three outings, including a straight up win over North Carolina on Oct. 17 as a 13.5-point underdog.

Lawrence might be a little rusty after a few weeks on the sidelines. Clemson will win, but FSU should be able to stay within five touchdowns on its home turf.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 63.5 (-106) is worth a small-unit play. Clemson will do its fair share of scoring, it’s Florida State which is the concern. As long as the Seminoles can come close to their season scoring average of 22.0 PPG, this game will inch across the finish line in the fourth quarter as a successful Over play.

Florida State at NC State: Three things to know

The Seminoles head to Raleigh looking to turn things around after getting smoked 41-17 against Pittsburgh at home last weekend. After upsetting North Carolina on Oct. 17, FSU has been outscored 89-33 over the past two games going 0-2 SU/ATS with two Over results.
NC State blew a fourth-quarter lead to fall 44-41 to Miami at home last Friday. The defense has been dinged for 92 total points over the past two games, both straight-up losses and Over results. The Over is 6-1 overall for the Wolfpack, averaging 32.9 PPG while allowing 35.6 PPG through seven games.
The Over is 5-0 in the past five road games for FSU, while going 22-6-1 in the past 29 as a road underdog. The Over is 6-1 in the past seven ACC games for NC State. The Under is 4-1 in the past five meetings in this series, however.

NC State 45, Florida State 34

Money line (ML)

NC State (-345) is a moderate favorite, but it’s difficult to trust either of these teams, to be honest. NC State’s defense makes the Wolfpack a risky play any time, and since Florida State upset a then-top 5 UNC team in Tallahassee, it has been destroyed 89-33 in the past two. The ‘Noles are the biggest Jekyll and Hyde team in the ACC. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

NC STATE -9.5 (-110) has a worrisome defense, but Florida State +9.5 (-110) has been rather incompetent, especially on the road, going 0-3 SU/1-2 ATS. Overall, the Seminoles are 2-5 ATS, too. At least the Wolfpack have been somewhat competent on offense, and that’s the name of the game here. Plus, Carter-Finley Stadium has been a house of horrors over the years for FSU, going 0-8-1 ATS in the past nine trips to Raleigh, and 3-15-1 ATS in the past 19 meetings in this series.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 60.5 (+100) at even-money? Gimme that all day, every day. NC State has hit the Under just once in seven games this season, a 31-20 win over Duke on Oct. 17. That was mostly due to the ineptitude of the Blue Devils, as the Wolfpack did their part to hit the number. And NC State has been a turnstile on D, so Florida State should be able to get its offense going.

Pittsburgh at Florida State: Three things to know

While both of these teams enter with four losses, Pitt enters on a four-game skid. The Panthers were hammered 45-3 at home by Notre Dame on Oct. 24, and they have posted an ugly 0-5-1 ATS mark in the past six games, yet to cover this season against an FBS team.
Like Pitt, Florida State was also crushed before its bye, losing 48-16 on the road against Louisville. That followed a 31-28 upset of then-No. 5 North Carolina and a road cover at Notre Dame (falling 42-26 as a 21-point dog), proof the Seminoles have been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team this season.
The strength of Florida State is the run game, ranking 30th in the nation with 197.0 yards per game. The strength of Pittsburgh is its run defense, as they’re second in the country with 69.1 yards per game allowed, so that’s the matchup to watch closely.

Money line (ML)

FLORIDA STATE (-137) is cheap enough to play on the money line at home. Pittsburgh (+110) just cannot be trusted after getting hammered by 42 points last time out by Notre Dame. If you just look at common opponents alone, at least the Seminoles hung with the Irish and didn’t get blown out.

Against the spread (ATS)

FLORIDA STATE -2.5 (-110) will cover the number, but the money line isn’t that much more expensive. Of course, the only thing you’d be protected against by taking the money line is a 2-point victory by FSU. That’s unlikely. Either way, you’ll be a winner, as Pitt will bring nothing to Tally in this one.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slam the UNDER 51.5 (-115) here, as I am not trusting either of these offenses to light the world afire. Both sides have struggled all season, with FSU averaging just 22.8 PPG, while Pitt is scoring 20.8 PPG in six games against FBS foes.
