Florida Panthers at Minnesota Wild odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Florida Panthers at Minnesota Wild odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Florida Panthers and the Minnesota Wild open their 2023-24 National Hockey League regular seasons Thursday at XCel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Panthers vs. Wild odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Panthers made a deep run in the playoffs last season, eventually falling to the Vegas Golden Knights for all the marbles in the Stanley Cup Final. It will be interesting to see how Florida responds in 2023-24. Florida swept the regular-season series against Minnesota last season, winning 2-1 in a shootout in the most recent visit to the Twin Cities last Feb. 13.

The Wild have struggled against the Cats over the years, losing 5 straight meetings in the series, while going just 3-7 in the previous 10 matchups. That includes 3 consecutive home setbacks against the Panthers since Minnesota’s last win at home against Florida on Dec. 13, 2018.

Panthers at Wild projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (37-13-8, 2.48 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO – 2022-23) vs. Marc-Andre Fleury (5-2-0, 2.94 GAA, .905 SV% )

The native of Novokuznetsk, Russia, caught fire in the postseason, single-handedly carrying the Panthers to victories. Bobrovsky struggled on the road during the regular season, however, going just 10-11-1 with a 3.27 GAA and .892 SV%.

Bob did win his only appearance against the Wild, though, kicking aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced in a 2-1 shootout win on Feb. 13 in the Twin Cities.

Fleury was 12-7-0 with a 2.94 GAA and .897 SV% in 20 appearances at home last season. He actually hasn’t faced the Panthers since Feb. 20, 2022, when he was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. He was on the short end of a 5-2 loss that night, stopping 20 of 23 shots.

Panthers at Wild picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 3, Wild 2

Moneyline

The PANTHERS (+105) are worth a look as slight underdogs on the road. While these teams meet rather infrequently, just twice per season in recent years, Florida has dominated the series. That includes a shootout win last season in the Twin Cities, and 3 straight skates in St. Paul overall. The defending Eastern Conference champions are the play on Opening Night.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Panthers +1.5 (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s quite expensive for a singular bet. If you want some insurance, and toss this into a multi-team parlay, it’s not the end of the world, especially since it’s rather early in the season, and we’re just feeling things out here.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-115) is a strong play in this opening night action.

The Under cashed in the most recent battle between these clubs in the Twin Cities, halting a 4-0 run to the Over in the series.

For the Wild, the Under dominated in their building last season, going 20-7-3 in the final 30 home games, while also cashing in 11 of the final 14 tries against Eastern Conference foes down the stretch.

Florida Panthers at Minnesota Wild odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Florida Panthers at Minnesota Wild odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Florida Panthers (26-23-6) and Minnesota Wild (28-20-4) tussle Monday in St. Paul. Puck drop at Xcel Energy Center is slated for an 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Panthers vs. Wild odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Florida is opening a 4-game road trip Monday. The Panthers are 3-1-0 over their last 4 games but lost 5-3 at home to the Colorado Avalanche Saturday.

The Wild earned a 3-2 shootout win over the visiting New Jersey Devils Saturday, snapping a 3-game losing skid. A loose Minnesota defense has led a one-time surging Wild squad (13-4-0 from Nov. 27-Jan. 4) to a mere 6-7-2 mark since. Over those last 15 games, Minnesota has allowed 3.27 goals per game.

Panthers at Wild projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (14-14-2, 3.13 GAA, .903 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Marc-Andre Fleury (16-11-3, 2.98 GAA, .902 SV%)

Bobrovsky was out in late January with a lower-body injury, but the veteran netminder has bounced back with 3 fine starts so far this month (.948 SV%). He owns a .929 career SV% in 16 games against Minnesota.

Fleury logged 4 straight quality starts from late January to early February. However, he was leaky in his last outing, stopping just 18-of-23 shots against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.

Panthers at Wild picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 4, Wild 3

Moneyline

This figures as a mostly even goaltending battle, but give a firm edge to the Panthers in 5-on-5 play. Florida does well to create high-danger chances at a top-shelf level. It has gotten a solid depth of scoring across multiple lines and is averaging 4.21 GPG since Jan. 12.

The Wild — losers of 4 straight against Florida, including a 5-3 game on Jan. 21 — have scored just 2.22 GPG over their last 9, and that’s been with a powerplay going at a strong clip.

BACK THE PANTHERS (-105).

Puck line/Against the spread

STEER CLEAR.

Minnesota figures to stay close enough in overall scoring chances, and the goal-and-a-half is too big an ask at this juice-depleted level of a payout on the Florida side.

Over/Under

No lean: PASS.

The goaltending matchup is respectable. The overall offensive numbers for the Panthers and the powerplay for the Wild counteract.

Florida Panthers at Minnesota Wild odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Florida Panthers at Minnesota Wild odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Florida Panthers (33-10-5) travel to meet the Minnesota Wild (30-12-3) Friday at XCel Energy Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Panthers vs. Wild odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Panthers pay a visit to St. Paul for a rescheduled game from Dec. 18. Florida is coming off a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at the Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday in a game that resembled a playoff contest. It was the team’s first appearance since Feb. 1.

The Wild were doubled up 6-3 at the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday, snapping a modest two-game win streak that saw the team record victories against the Detroit Red Wings and Hurricanes. The Over has connected in each of the last two outings.

Panthers at Wild projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (24-4-3, 2.54 GAA, .919 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (19-9-1, 2.86 GAA, .912 SV%, 1 SO)

Bobrovsky was not tested much Wednesday in Raleigh as he stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced in the 3-2 overtime win. However, the shots he did face, especially late in the game, were at point-blank range.

Talbot was toasted for 5 goals on 30 shots in Wednesday’s 6-3 loss at Winnipeg, a house of horrors for Minnesota of late. Talbot has still won four of his last five starts and is 2-1-0 with a 2.37 GAA and .929 SV% with 1 SO in February.

Panthers at Wild odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 4, Wild 2

Money line

The PANTHERS (-125) are playing very good hockey, and they’ll use Wednesday’s playoff-like victory as a springboard into this East-West matchup.

The Wild were embarrassed on the road last time out, and the offense will have a difficult time trying to solve another top-notch goaltender after being mostly shut down by Connor Hellebuyck Wednesday.

Against the spread

The PANTHERS -1.5 (+185) are worth a small-unit wager at this price, with the potential to nearly double up. Yes, Florida has won two of its past three games in overtime, but seven of its last 10 victories have been by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (+120) is a very good value at plus-money.

The Under hit in Florida’s game in Carolina, snapping a 3-0 Over run. While the Over has cashed in two in a row for Minnesota, the Under is 3-2 in its last five outings and 5-3 in its previous eight against Eastern Conference foes.
