Fans can’t get enough of the adorable new FFXIV Corgi minion

Square Enix showed off the loveable new FFXIV Corgi minion ahead of the MMO’s patch 6.3 launch, and it’s stealing fans’ hearts

Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 is just around the corner, and Square Enix teased one of the MMO game’s most-anticipated new additions. It’s not the new raid or the continuation of long-running quests. It’s the Corgi minion.

The game’s Japanese YouTube account posted a YouTube Short showcasing the Corgi minion and its different actions and poses for the first time, after it showed up briefly during a presentation in October 2022. The short runs the Corgi through its paces, with sitting and trotting animations, happy wags, and an endearing animation where it sits down, cocks its head to one side, and smiles at you.

The Corgi will also turn around from time to time and plop down to show its specially-marked haunches, two little drumstick-shaped cream patches set above the pup’s tiny little legs.

Fans are lapping it up, so to speak. The original short racked up more than 30,000 views just hours after the video went live. Final Fantasy influencer Audrey (aitakimochi) posted on Twitter that the Corgi – and its butt – are “everything,” to which several Corgi owners responded with images of their own pups doing “the sploots” just like the minion version.

One Twitter user commented how much better FFXIV’s Corgis look compared to those in Lord of the Rings Online, which seem rather as if they might have been crossed with Hobbit at some point in their family trees.

How to get the Corgi minion remains to be seen, but with patch 6.3 launching on Jan. 10, 2023, we won’t have to wait long for the furball to join the adventure. Patch 6.35 launches sometime not long after, and Final Fantasy 16 will release for PS5 on June 22, 2023.

Square Enix announces Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 release date

Square Enix revealed the FFXIV 6.3 release date during the latest live letter and outlined a bit of what to expect from the MMO’s new update

The Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 release date is coming up fast, Square Enix announced during the MMO game’s latest live letter update. FFXIV 6.3, officially called Gods Revel, Lands Tremble, will release on Jan. 10, 2023, bringing with it new main scenario quests, trials, an alliance raid, and much more.

The FFXIV 6.3 main scenario quests see the Warrior of Light meet a half-voidsent woman named Zero who joins the party for a while as they recover at the Source, before setting out to find Azdaja. If you’re after something a bit more lighthearted, 6.3 also continues the side quest chains Tataru’s Grand Endeavor and Tales of Newfound Adventure.

The new 24-player Alliance Raid adds the second part of Mythic Realms, Euphrosyne, and on Jan. 24, 2023, you can team up to take on the new Ultimate Raid against an enhanced version of Omega.

A new dungeon, Lapis Manalis, is also making its debut, and the Duty Support system, where you can team up with an AI-controlled party without waiting in a queue, will be available for all Heavensward dungeons.

All this is in addition to Gold Saucer updates, a new crystalline conflict update, and a new treasure hunt dungeon, but even that’s not all.  Patch 6.35 will launch sometime later and add Lopporitt tribal quests and a new deep dungeon.

Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 releases in January with new raids and more

Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 is officially called Gods Revel, Lands Tremble and brings new main and side quests, Ultimate raids, and much more

Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 releases in January, Square Enix announced during the MMO game’s latest live note presentation, and it sounds like quite the substantial update, despite having no hot villains headlining its release. FFXIV 6.3 is officially called “Gods Revel, Lands Tremble” and alongside new main story quests and side story quests, it brings with it an Instanced Dungeon, new trials, and Ultimate Raids.

New tales are also coming to Tataru’s quest chain, along with a new alliance raid in the Myths of the Realm series. The new Ultimate duty will release two weeks after the patch, which as yet has no firm date in January.

The Duty Support system will also include the remaining Heavensward dungeons, so players new and old alike can run every dungeon from the game’s first two expansions without having to queue up for other human players. While there won’t be any new housing districts in the upcoming patch, Square Enix is adding new wards to existing districts in an effort to ease the Eorzean housing shortage.

Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 is a two-part patch, and 6.35 is packed with just as much new goodness as the first part. You can dive into a new Deep Dungeon, Eureka Orthos, after finishing Endwalker’s main quest and reaching level 50 in Palace of the Dead.

A new Tribal quest centered on the Lopporittts will debut in 6.35, along with more crops and other improvements for the Island Sanctuary and an update in both the Manderville Weapon quest and the Further Adventures of Hildebrand.

You can check out the full presentation on Twitch.

FFXIV patch notes: 5 biggest changes in 6.28

Final Fantasy 14’s latest patch brings about the long-awaited data center expansion for North America.

After a nine-hour maintenance period, Final Fantasy XIV 6.28 is live. This patch doesn’t introduce any major new features like the big 6.2 update from earlier this year, but it makes a lot of tweaks to existing jobs and items, as well as fixing a whole host of bugs. On top of that, the game’s competitive  PvP mode, Crystalline Conflict is moving on to Season 4, with the rewards for Season 3 being handed out.

We’ll explain all of the biggest changes so you’re fully equipped when you jump back into the game.

Square Enix advises players to change their FF 14 passwords soon

Square Enix warns the FF XIV community that hackers are trying to access the MMO’s management system by using player accounts

Square Enix is cautioning players to change their Final Fantasy 14 passwords after hackers repeatedly attempted to access the account management system – and your saved payment methods, among other sensitive pieces of information – using passwords and emails obtained from other sites. The news is an unexpectedly somber reminder for the MMO game’s community to practice online safety, a community that usually makes headlines for lighthearted reasons, like rejoicing over grape assets and villains with thirsty fan clubs.

The MMO publisher posted the advisory in a new post on the Lodestone, Final Fantasy 14’s central hub site, and said anyone who uses the same email and password combination on other websites as they do for their Final Fantasy 14 account is at risk of having their account hacked.

Square Enix didn’t say what other sites might be compromised, so for the time being, the safest bet is probably following their advice and changing your password if you use the same one anywhere else.

Another recommendation the publisher provided is to require the use of a one-time password using a software token or authenticator app. You can also use a security token, but seeing as Square Enix charges $14.99 for one token, it’s not exactly the best option.

FFXIV 6.18 patch notes: 5 biggest changes

Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.18 is out, and it makes big changes to PvP and the game’s data centres.

Although the hype is building for Final Fantasy XIV 6.2, coming in August, we must first get another minor update out of the way to set things up. This update doesn’t add much in the way of content, but it makes some important changes that will help FFXIV grow in the month leading up to – and following – the 6.2 update.

The data centres in certain regions have been expanded and refurbished, just about every FFXIV job/class has seen adjustments to their PvP actions, and new items have been made purchasable. We’ll give you a rundown of all the biggest changes, and how they’ll affect you when you dive back into Final Fantasy 14.

FFXIV 6.15 patch notes: 5 biggest changes

Quests galore have been added in FF14 update 6.15 and we’ll walk you through what the biggest and most exciting ones are.

Do you like quests? If you answered no to that question then it’s a bit weird that you’re playing an MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV, but if you answered yes, then this is the update for you. FFXIV patch 6.15 has quests like you wouldn’t believe. Main quests, side quests, questlines, you name it and it’s probably been added in this update, making for a substantial amount of new content.

But wait, there’s more. New items, craftables, and furniture have been added, and not just any furniture, this is furniture from a contest in 2019, which is as exciting as furniture gets; although now we’ve said the word furniture too much and it sounds meaningless…furniture. There’s plenty to sort through, so we’re running down the biggest changes so you know what’s important.

The 30 best songs from the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14, ranked

Final Fantasy 14 has a lot of music, so let’s rank the best!

Final Fantasy 14 has been up and running online for nearly a decade, more than that if you’re counting the failed 1.0 version that released in 2010. For a long-running MMORPG such as this, and an incredibly popular Final Fantasy game to boot, it’s no surprise there are hundreds upon hundreds of songs across this game’s history.

In fact, Final Fantasy 14 holds the Guinness World Record for the most original pieces of music in a video game, and that was set back in 2017! Music is a huge part of Final Fantasy 14 and a big reason why the game is so beloved by fans across the world. The orchestrations of current lead composer Masayoshi Soken, alongside legendary series composers Nobuo Uematsu, Naoshi Mizuta and countless others have brought the world of Eorzea — and beyond! — to life since the game’s inception.

To celebrate our love for this game’s illustrious suite of music, staff writer Mary Clarke and GLHF writer Kyle Campbell sat down and ranked the 30 best songs from Final Fantasy 14.

Spoilers ahead for all of Final Fantasy 14, from A Realm Reborn through the game’s newest expansion Endwalker.
