Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2 release date hype is making fans go feral

The next big update for Final Fantasy 14 is so exciting that fans can barely hold it together.

Water is wet, winter is cold, and Final Fantasy 14 fans are breaking down over an update. Like, tears are forming into rivers at this very moment because Square Enix’s MMORPG phenomenon constantly elicits that sort of reaction. Seriously, these folks wilt over ugly grapes and fictional hotties. No judgment — I’m one of them.

On Friday, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 14: Buried Memory, AKA patch 6.2, is coming out at the end of this month. We already broke down some of the most noteworthy additions, so it’s time to see how the community is handling this news. Spoiler: they’re not.

Below, we’ve compiled a collection of the best reactions to patch 6.2’s launch date announcement. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Final Fantasy 14, you can’t help but smile at people loving something this passionately.

Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2 gets a release date and an awesome trailer

The next massive update for FF14 is bringing new dungeons, challenges, raids, and an island paradise. Here’s when it launches!

After many months of rabid speculation and teases, the next major update for Final Fantasy 14 has a launch date. So prep that comfy lounge chair because we’re in for a doozy.

During Letter from the Producer Live Part 72 stream, director Naoki Yoshida announced that the Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2 release date is August 23, 2022. That’s not even two weeks away! The development team stressed that there will be a lengthy maintenance period ahead of time, so be mindful of that. No specifics were given regarding down long the Final Fantasy 14 servers will be down ahead of the update, though. Likely at least a day, if history is any indication.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a massive Final Fantasy 14 patch without an absolutely sick kick-off trailer. Feast your eyes on the Buried Memory teaser for yourself below. As a warning: here are slight Endwalker spoilers, so maybe skip it if you haven’t finished the expansion.

The trailer contains snippets from upcoming content in patch 6.2 (thanks, Fanbyte). Island Sanctuary, the Stardrew Valley-like island paradise for crafting and gathering, can be seen. Then there are loads of Main Scenario Questline (MSQ) cutscenes, some of which showcase a character in Reaper garb that we’ve never seen before. You can also catch glimpses of The Fell Court of Troia, an all-new dungeon.

Pandaemonium is getting its tier finally. We can see at least one of the new bosses unleashing hell fury on a party, as always. The standard version of this raid is coming on launch day, while the savage difficulty is launching one week later. Hear that? Every crafter in your static is breathing a sigh of relief over the extra prep time — more time to fawn over a certain (hot) returning villain.

Interestingly enough, a few sequences also showed the new Heavensward tweaks. Characters like Haurchefant and Alphinaud can now join you in older dungeons like The Vault through the trust system. The (currently) wretched Steps of Faith are changing from an eight-player trial to a solo duty. Thank goodness those slow-as-molasses turret days are behind us.

That about does it! Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2 is looking like it’ll be a damn fine addition.

Final Fantasy 14 Live Letter 72: where and when to watch

Letter from the producer live returns, and director Naoki Yoshida will divulge all sorts of new information about patch 6.2.

We’re just a hair away from the next major saga of Final Fantasy 14. As such, producer and director Naoki Yoshida will take center stage in another live letter installment to tell us about what’s coming in patch 6.2, better known as Buried Memory.

Final Fantasy 14 letter from the producer live part 72 begins Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at 4:00 A.M. PDT // 7:00 A.M. EDT // 11:00 A.M. GMT across numerous streaming platforms. Yes, Square Enix is continuing that proud tradition of making fans in North America wake up way too early because summaries are for casuals, after all. We’ll list every site showing the broadcast below.

Where to watch Final Fantasy 14 Live Letter 72

As always, the livestream will only contain Japanese audio, but English comments will be on the presentation slides. Rebroadcasts are encouraged, though, and various unofficial channels out there, like Iluna Minori, sometimes do live translations.

There’s quite a bit coming in this update. The Buried Memory promotional site notes that new main scenario quests (MSQ), high-end Pandaemonium raids, unreal trials, and lots more are coming. Here’s to hoping that we’ll learn some concrete details on the Stardew Valley-like Island Sanctuary and Tataru’s Grand Endeavor this stream too. Since the savage tier is coming out a week after this patch, your static now has extra prep time – hear that? It’s the sound of crafters worldwide exhaling in relief.

Of course, most people are particularly excited about this live letter because it’ll likely (finally) give us a release date for patch 6.2 — if that doesn’t happen, there’ll surely be riots in the streets. It’s been a hot minute since the last significant content update, so Final Fantasy 14 fans need their crops watered already. Seriously, they’re so thirsty that old bad guys are somehow doing the trick. Zenos stans, please temper your expectations – the development team already confirmed he’s dead.

All kidding aside, this should be a damn good show. So keep your eyes peeled for what’s coming next. For all intents and purposes, this update will kick off a whole new era of Final Fantasy 14. The hype is palpable!

Final Fantasy 14 fans are hot for a returning villain

An old bad guy is back, and Final Fantasy 14 fans can’t contain their thirst.

We’re not far from the release of Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2, but an old villain is already wreaking (such) devastation on fans.

Slight spoilers for Endwalker and every other expansion to the MMORPG below, so consider this your only warning.

On Thursday, Square Enix teased everyone with some official artwork for the next major update. As many thought, the Pandaemonium raid series is indeed bringing Lahabrea, an antagonist from past storylines, back into the fold. We all saw that coming.

However, nobody could have known Lahabrea would be so hot.

Just look at him for yourself below. He’s a patriarch of poppas, an Ascian after our hearts, and the newly certified Dad of Eorzea.

You may not be aware of this, but dangling this sort of thing in front of Final Fantasy 14 players is like dropping raw chicken into a fish tank full of hungry piranha. Everyone is going nuts. Whether it’s off-the-cuff thirst tweets, drawing elegant fan art, or memeing through the heart’s desires.

As always, we’ve gathered the best reactions below. Enjoy.

More than 1,000 Final Fantasy 14 players cover emotional ballad from latest expansion

YouTuber Alex Moukala brought loads of fans together for one incredible musical number.

The soundtrack for Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker is incredible, and one fan paid tribute by organizing a 1400-player strong cover of arguably its most powerful song.

Alex Moukala, a Youtuber best known for brilliant remixes of video game tracks, began looking for Final Fantasy 14 players willing to sing “Close in the Distance” earlier this year. The fan-favorite song is a power ballad that takes some well-trained pipes to replicate, and somehow, Moukala got over 1000 fans together for an epic acapella.

Incredibly, several professional vocalists from the Final Fantasy series contributed to this cover, including Paolo Andrea di Pietro (Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade), Susan Calloway (Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood), and Amanda Achen (Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers and Endwalker). It’s an impressive assortment of names and a reminder of how many absolute bangers are on the MMORPG’s lengthy soundtrack.

Watch the “Close in the Distance” cover for yourself below. Moukala’s talent as a music producer shines, especially since the mix doesn’t drown anyone’s voice out.

Final Fantasy 14 diehards will probably recognize several other YouTubers in the video too. Some of them are Lollia Rose, Studio Nicktendo, Adriana Figueroa, FamilyJules, Zepla, and many more. It’s hard comprehending how Moukala figured all of this out.

“I can’t stress enough how much of a difference you all made here,” Moukala said on Twitter. “The 1000 of you who sent us beautiful submissions and the superb soloists who lent us their voices for this love letter.”

It’s so much more heartwarming than bizarre billboards advertising in-game pool parties. Not that we’re shaming anyone for some old-fashioned shenanigans.

Several months have gone by since Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker’s launch, but the MMORPG shows no signs of slowing down popularity-wise. Even patch 6.18, which mostly contained tweaks and fixes, is going over well with the community.

Final Fantasy 14 player beach party advertised on real world billboards

A FF14 player has purchased billboards in both Texas and California to advertise their in-game beach party.

A FF14 player has purchased billboards in both Texas and California in order to advertise their in-game beach party.

The owners of the FF14 nightclub Rain, live on the Balmung server, have purchased four billboards hoping to attract players of the Final Fantasy MMO to their beach party. As announced on Twitter, two billboards are already live in Austin and Houston, Texas. According to the club’s discord server though two more will go live later today in California.

Club events, such as the beach party, are common in FF14. Much like real club events, they take place every night across the world, with staff paid to host in the in-game currency, gil. These events are streamed on platforms such as Twitch, in order to promote the clubs.

[mm-video type=video id=01g7774qsdee31jmb0zv playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g7774qsdee31jmb0zv/01g7774qsdee31jmb0zv-585a694cf046b8a057157f2502006fb7.jpg]

Aside from the Discord and Twitter pages, Rain also has its own website where it promotes upcoming events. Paying out for whole billboards in order to advertise an event from an MMO is fairly irregular though.

While it is not illegal to advertise FF14 parties in the real world – as long as no real money changes hands – there may be some issues from publisher Square Enix. Some of the characters on the club’s website have been created using mods, which goes against the game’s terms of service. The advertising also uses Square Enix’s own characters and properties, presumably without consent.

One of the club’s owners, Revarious, thinks the billboards are more than worth the money. Speaking to GLHF they said, “I giveaway more things to the community off the [in-game store] in two weeks than this whole billboard thing cost us, and we are also still doing all those giveaways at the same time,” they continued, “We just happen to have a lot of very amazing people at Rain where we can do these things and giveaways for the community.”

The timing of the event is perfect for Rain, as the 6.18 patch just dropped allowing players to move between data centers. This means more players will be able to attend the event. You can find out the five biggest changes from the 6.18 patch here.

Here’s how to watch the Final Fantasy 14 patch 6.2 live letter

Final Fantasy 14’s latest live letter for patch 6.2 from producer Naoki Yoshida goes live today (July 1.) at 4 a.m. PT. Here’s how you can watch it in English.

Final Fantasy 14’s latest live letter for patch 6.2 from producer Naoki Yoshida goes live today (July 1.) at 4 a.m. PT. Here’s how you can watch it in English.

Square Enix announced a few days ago that the producer of FF14 would be presenting his latest live letter to discuss the upcoming changes to be made in patch 6.2. The slides for the presentation will be in both Japanese and English – however, the additional information given by Yoshida will be in Japanese only.

As restreaming of the FF14 patch 6.2 live letter is encouraged by the publisher, some fans of the game are doing so in order to interpret Yoshida’s words into other languages. We have found one such unofficially translated restream, where user Iluna Minori will be interpreting the live letter into English, and as it happens, for all of FF14’s English-speaking fans.

Those who would prefer to only watch the official live letter – with English slides and Japanese audio – can watch the presentation here. It should be noted that the stream will be shown in its entirety on Minori’s channel.

As reported by Fanbyte, the latest patch notes are reported to include information about the new Island Sanctuary content, explanation of the new Criterion Dungeons, and an expansion of Duty Support / Trusts system into Heavensward’s MSQ dungeons. There are also rumored to be a number of job changes announced.

It is also suspected that patch 6.2 will be released sometime from mid to late August this year. If this is true fans won’t have long to wait between the live letter and the patch’s release.

In other FF14 news, players have already been trying out the best makeovers for Ameliance, and if you are new to the franchise you can find a whole host of tips and tricks in our FF14 beginner’s guide.

FFXIV 6.15 patch notes: 5 biggest changes

Quests galore have been added in FF14 update 6.15 and we’ll walk you through what the biggest and most exciting ones are.

Do you like quests? If you answered no to that question then it’s a bit weird that you’re playing an MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV, but if you answered yes, then this is the update for you. FFXIV patch 6.15 has quests like you wouldn’t believe. Main quests, side quests, questlines, you name it and it’s probably been added in this update, making for a substantial amount of new content.

But wait, there’s more. New items, craftables, and furniture have been added, and not just any furniture, this is furniture from a contest in 2019, which is as exciting as furniture gets; although now we’ve said the word furniture too much and it sounds meaningless…furniture. There’s plenty to sort through, so we’re running down the biggest changes so you know what’s important.
