Penn State Football: 2022-2023 transfer portal departures tracker

Let’s take an updated look at the Penn State football transfer portal tracker.

The NCAA’s transfer portal is a game-changer for players and more and more players seem to be taking advantage of the opportunity to explore all of their options. Penn State has been a program that has sent a number of players to other schools by way of the transfer portal, some with more success than others, but the Nittany Lions have also caught on to the importance of tapping talent from the transfer portal to plug some holes on the roster.

Penn State head coach James Franklin has expressed his growing concerns over the way the transfer portal is treated by programs around the country, and how the pressure to focus on just football impacts the whole process. He’s not necessarily wrong on that account, but he may also b a bit frustrated knowing every year his program will lose players through the whole process when he can be focusing his energy on preparing for a bowl game or the early signing period on the recruiting calendar.

Here is a look at each player from Penn State’s roster that has been announced or been reported to be in the NCAA transfer portal.

Ex-Penn State DL transfers to 2023 opponent

It was just a week ago when Penn State defensive lineman [autotag]Fatorma Mulbah[/autotag] announced he was entering the transfer portal. As fate would have it, his first game with his new team will be played right in Beaver Stadium. Mulbah announced on Twitter on Thursday he has committed to West Virginia.

West Virginia’s first game of the 2023 season will be played on the road at Penn State on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Mulbah was a three-star player in Penn State’s Class of 2020 from Harrisburg, PA. He enrolled early in January 2020 and played primarily on special teams duty for the Nittany Lions in 2022. Mulbah redshirted the 2020 season and he will have the NCAA’s extra year of eligibility at his disposal as he looks to continue his football career, potentially elsewhere.

Penn State defensive lineman Fatorma Mulbah latest to enter transfer portal

On Thursday, another Penn State defensive lineman announced he has entered the transfer portal.

Now that the season is officially in the books following Penn State’s Rose Bowl victory, the roster changes for the upcoming 2023 season will continue to be made through recruiting and the transfer portal. On Thursday, a current member of the Penn State program announced he was entering the transfer portal to explore his potential options moving forward. Defensive lineman [autotag]Fatorma Mulbah[/autotag] took to Twitter to confirm he will be the latest Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal.

“As I reflect on my time at Penn State University, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the tremendous opportunity I have had to play football for Penn State,” Mulbah said in a released statement on his Twitter account on Thursday. “I am thankful to God for guiding me on this journey, and I am forever indebted to Coach Franklin and the staff for giving me this opportunity.”

“However, after many discussions with my family and coaches, I have decided to enter the MNCAA transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining,” Mulbah announced.

Where Mulbah goes next remains to be seen. Mulbah is the third Penn State player from the defensive line to enter the transfer portal since the end of the regular season. He joins defensive tackle Rodney McGraw (who has since committed to Louisville) and Davon Townley, who continues to explore his options.

Penn State did add to its roster from the transfer portal this week with the commitment of former NC State wide receiver Devin Carter.
