Falcons Eagles odds picks prediction spread over/under betting line

Alex White of SportsbookWire.com likes a side in Week 2’s Monday Night Football game, featuring the Atlanta Falcons at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kickoff from Lincoln Financial Field is set for 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN).

The Falcons lost their opener 18-10 to the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers despite leading 10-9 at halftime. So yea, the Atlanta offense didn’t score in the 2nd half. On the bright side, the defense didn’t allow a touchdown, but Pittsburgh kicked 6 field goals in picking up the win.

The Eagles “offense looked awesome, there’s no denying that [and RB] Saquon Barkley was an immediate impact,” Alex points out about Philly’s 34-29 opening victory over the Green Bay Packers on a neutral field in Brazil. “But [QB] Jalen Hurts did throw two picks.”

The Eagles are favored 5.5 points, per BetMGM Sportsbook’s NFL odds as of Sunday, 7:19 p.m. ET — the line was 6.5 points early in the morning.

They didn’t score a single point in the 2nd half as QB Kirk Cousins looked quite rusty in his return from a torn Achilles. He went 16-for-26 for 155 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. RB Bijan Robinson rushed 18 times for 68 yards and caught 5 balls for 43 yards.

The Eagles slipped by the Green Bay Packers 34-29 in Week 1. RB Saquon Barkley scored 3 times, rushing for 109 yards and catching 2 balls for 23 yards. QB Jalen Hurts went 20-for-34 for 278 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. The Packers did a good job of containing him on the ground as he rushed 13 times for just 33 yards. The Eagles will have the challenge of being without top wideout A.J. Brown (hamstring).

These teams haven’t faced one another since a 32-6 Eagles victory in Atlanta in 2021. The Falcons are going to grind it out to try to keep the Eagles off the field. I don’t think it’ll be enough, but the Eagles are unplayable on the ML.

Instead, take a look at SAQUON BARKLEY OVER 17.5 RECEIVING YARDS (-115). With Brown out, Atlanta will key in on WR DeVonta Smith and try to stack the box against Barkley. That’s where they’ll need play action and short passing routes to open up the second level. Barkley had 23 yards through the air last week, and he should match that again.

Against the spread

As I alluded to, I look for the Falcons to run the ball often and remain competitive in this game. For some reason, the Falcons used Cousins in pistol or shotgun on 96% of the offensive snaps last week. He doesn’t have a lot of experience in those, and his mobility was in question. Either wait until gameday to see if this spread opens up more or take the ALTERNATE FALCONS +6.5 (-140). BetMGM has a 20% NFL boost token that you can place on it in order to bring it down to -120 and put you in a more bankable position.

Over/Under

Atlanta cashed the Under in Week 1, and Philly’s shootout cashed the Over. I expect a game much closer to the 18-10 slugfest ATL was in last week with the injuries and game plan tweaks.
