Steelers WR George Pickens blames refs for his struggles

George Pickens says the officials are the problem, not him.

This season has not gone according to plan for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. The Steelers traded away Diontae Johnson in hopes that Pickens would take up the role at the team’s No. 1 receiver and finally tap into all that potential.

Instead, Pickens has been inconsistent, problematic and put on a snap management plan that doesn’t have him on the field in key moments. But don’t blame him. He was asked about his handling of the ugly moments this season and if he thought he could do better.

Instead of taking any responsibility for his actions, he chose to blame the officials for making the calls.

“I wouldn’t really say that,” Pickens said. “It’s all on the refs. That should show you where the refs are this season”

Spoiler alert: It’s probably not all on the refs. Pickens performance and moreso his attitude have been less than stellar this season and just deflecting on the officials isn’t going to make anything better.

Report: NFL investigating George Pickens’ profane eye black

George Pickens’ profanity-filled message that was written on his eye black is being investigated and reviewed by the NFL.

George Pickens cannot seem to catch a break. From fumbling the game away in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts to mishandling media responsibilities to pulling on the face mask of a Dallas Cowboys player following the Week 5 loss, the Pittsburgh Steelers wideout’s season isn’t what many thought it would be.

The drama continues, however, as Brooke Pryor of ESPN reported that the NFL is reviewing Pickens’ inappropriate use of eye black in Week 5. Pryor adds that the NFL is specifically focusing on a “potential fine over violation of the league’s uniform policy.”

Pickens had a profane message on his eye black: “Open F—— Always.”

Mike Tomlin was asked by Pryor about the eye black on Tuesday, and Tomlin claimed to know nothing about the message.

Pickens’ antics seem to be spiraling, and if he hopes to remain on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tomlin will need to straighten him out fast.
