If you took the first-place team in the EuroLeague, including its coaching and support staff, and put it in the U.S. as an NBA team, could it make the playoffs? By a 15-to-six vote, the verdict was no — the NBA is the NBA for a reason. The “no” answers varied in their certainty, from “no way” and “no shot” to “I don’t think so.” Two who ultimately voted no offered up caveats. One says “maybe” in the Eastern Conference. Another says the European team “would push for the playoffs,” perhaps climbing to ninth or 10th place.

Dusan Ivkovic, who announced his retirement in 2016 after a long and successful career, talks about the current situation in Europe with more and more players making their jump to the NBA. “I would not say that European basketball is in crisis. But it is obvious that the NBA is so strong that it is impossible to compete with, and it collects all the best players around the world. The salary ceiling has already risen above $ 100 million” he tells.

“It seems to me that our players should go there: every club, every coach should be proud that they brought up people who play in the NBA. I trained many generations of players, and they all left – from Divac and Petrovic to Bogdanovic and Teodosic. Very happy for them. When the player is ready, let him leave for the NBA. Now very young players are leaving, who are being drafted from schools and universities”, Ivkovic mentions on the Europeans’ NBA invasion in recent years. “It is clear that it is very difficult for European clubs: their youth is leaving, and American players of a lower level are replacing them. The situation is difficult”.

Vic Fangio assuming Broncos will play Falcons in England this season

Broncos coach Vic Fangio is assuming Denver will play a “road” game against the Falcons in London in 2020.

During his media availability at the NFL combine earlier this week, Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio said that he assumes his team will play the Atlanta Falcons in London, England this fall.

“I’m assuming,” Fangio said, according to The Athletic‘s Nicki Jhabvala. “I’m not announcing.”

Fangio clarified that he wasn’t announcing the game because the NFL hasn’t yet finalized its international schedule for 2020. It sure sounds like Denver will have a “road” game against Atlanta in England, though.

“I think we’re playing against the Broncos — I think, from what I’ve heard — but I’m not sure,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank said during an interview with talkSPORT in February. “So we’ll see. We’re excited about it.”

Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis has been campaigning for an international game for several years now.

“I’m basically begging to get it because I think it’d be very good for us to play there,” Ellis said in December, adding that the contest would be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which holds over 62,000 fans.
