Oklahoma makes top-4 for four-star 2021 DE

Four-star DE Jeremiah Williams narrowed his list of schools down to four on Thursday, cutting Alabama and LSU.

With Sooner Summit commencing over the weekend and four-star DE Kelvin Gilliam committing to Oklahoma on Saturday, the Sooners’ 2021 class is suddenly on a roll.

With the new addition, OU’s class jumped to 14th in the country via 247Sports, notably one spot ahead of Texas. Gilliam marks OU’s 4th defensive end prospect, and it appears that defensive coordinator Alex Grinch already has his sights set on the next one.

Fellow four-star DE Jeremiah Williams narrowed his list of schools down to four on Thursday, cutting Alabama and LSU. The No. 6 weak-side defensive end in the country will now be choosing from Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma.

His final destination is yet to be determined, but it’s no coincidence that defensive ends coach Jamar Cain tweeted the following image on the same day, alluding to Williams’ nickname, “Scooby.”

Williams would mark OU’s fourth weak-side defensive end in the class. Currently, three of the top 10 WDE in the country are committed to OU. In Williams, the Sooners are looking to go 4/4.

Williams is a 6-foot-3, 224 lb WDE from Ramsay High School in Birmingham, AL. 247Sports lists him as the No. 103 prospect in the nation, the No. 6 WDE, and the No. 5 player out of Alabama. He would be the No. 5 highest-rated player in OU’s 2021 class.

LOOK: Oklahomaโ€™s 2021 recruiting class official offer letter

August 1st marked the first day that schools could extend official scholarship offers to players in the class of 2021.ย

August 1st marked the first day that schools could extend official scholarship offers to players in the class of 2021.

Unsurprisingly, Lincoln Riley and his staff took full advantage, mailing out offers enclosed in a foldable, embossed packet. You can watch the full unveiling process below.

In addition to physical offers, the staff also provided players with individual graphical versions to share on social media, like the one posted by five-star QB Caleb Williams below.

The “official offer” sheet reads, “We certify that you possess the characteristics and abilities needed to succeed at the highest collegiate level, both academically and on the football field. These skills are more formally known as OUDNA!”

The characteristics are then listed out: “Integrity, Brotherhood, Dominance, Leadership, Unselfishness, Passion, Tradition, Perseverance.” They are followed by a signature from Coach Riley and an OUDNA stamp.

The other side features three diamond-encrusted chains, one with a Jordan pendant, another with an OU one, and a third featuring the nickname of the 2021 class, “LincUpXXI.”

Oklahoma four-star DL target Kelvin Gilliam sets commitment date

2021 four-star weak-side defensive end Kelvin Gilliam will make his college decision known on August 22.ย

2021 four-star weak-side defensive end Kelvin Gilliam will make his college decision known on August 22.

Gilliam ranks as the No. 7 WDE and No. 3 player out of Virginia, per 247Sports.

OU’s 2021 class recently received its crown jewel, in the form of No. 1 QB Caleb Williams. Williams hails from Washington, D.C., only two hours away from Gilliam’s hometown of Highland Springs, VA.

Not only are Williams and Gilliam interested in the prospect of becoming teammates, they may end up rooming together at OU, Gilliam told Sports Illustrated’s AllSooners.

Gilliam would be the fourth DL prospect in O’s 2021 class, joining fellow four-stars Ethan Downs, Clayton Smith and Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge.

Also on DC Alex Grinch’s radar: Gilliam’s high school teammate and 2021 three-star CB Damond Harmon. Harmon will be committing on August 1st, choosing between OU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Penn State and Georgia.

As of July 31, 247Sports’ Crystal Ball gives OU a 100% chance of landing Harmon. It’s hard to imagine this domino would not have some kind of effect on Gilliam’s decision later in the month.
