Ethan Davis’ progress detailed ahead of Alabama game

Redshirt freshman Ethan Davis has appeared in five contests for Tennessee in 2024. The 6-foot-5, 246-pound tight end has recorded seven receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown.

Davis did not play in Tennessee’s loss at Arkansas in Week 6 and saw limited action against Florida in Week 7.

Ahead of Week 8 versus Alabama, fourth-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed Davis’ progression this season.

“He is somebody that we plan on using more,” Heupel said. “A couple weeks ago, structural change, Miles (Kitselman) got a majority of it with Holden (Staes). We got a great confidence in him. We’ll continue to play him moving forward.”

Davis appeared in three contests for the Vols as a freshman in 2023, totaling two receptions for 33 yards.

Tennessee football totals 700-plus offensive yards in win versus Chattanooga.

No. 15 Tennessee (1-0) defeated Chattanooga (0-1), 69-3, Saturday in the season opener for both schools at Neyland Stadium.

The Vols led, 45-0, at halftime.

Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava completed 22-of-28 passing attempts for 314 yards and touchdowns in the first half of the contest against the Mocs.

Dylan Sampson was the Vols’ leading rusher as he totaled 124 yards and three touchdowns on 12 attempts.

Dont’e Thornton recorded three receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

In his return from a season-ending injury suffered in 2023, Bru McCoy recorded six receptions for 89 receiving yards.

Tennessee tight end Ethan Davis totaled two receptions for 20 yards and one touchdown.

DeSean Bishop and Khalifa Keith also scored rushing touchdowns for Tennessee.

The Vols scored a special teams touchdown after Jordan Ross returned a blocked punt to the end zone.

Tennessee’s offense totaled 718 yards in the contest.

Tennessee will kick off it 2024 football season in 22 days. The Vols practiced for a seventh time during fall training camp on Thursday.

Redshirt freshman tight end Ethan Davis enters his second season at Tennessee. The 6-foot-5, 246-pound tight end gained 14 pounds from last year to this season.

Davis discussed how he feels after adding weight in strength and conditioning.

“I feel like I really haven’t missed a beat, and that’s credit to our strength staff,” Davis said. “I mean, I put the weight on and they do the rest. They mold me like, ‘okay, this is your body fat now, so now we are going to get it down to here, if we are going to get this stronger, we are going to get this stronger.’ They have done a really good job with taking care of me in that field.”

The Vols practiced for a second time in fall training camp on Thursday at Haslam Field.

Following practice, Abeln discussed redshirt freshman tight end Ethan Davis’ growth and development entering his second season with the Vols.

“I mean, physically he is 245 pounds right now, which was the biggest thing for him last year, just getting his body ready to survive in this league,” Abeln said. “Mentally, it’s really cool to see last year to this year and really this spring from last spring, just how far he’s come mentally where he’s able to just go play free and do the stuff we all know he’s capable of doing.”

Tennessee kicked off fall training camp Aug. 2 at Haslam Field in preparation for the 2023 season.

The Vols will open its 2023 season versus Virginia on Sept. 2 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff between Tennessee and the Cavaliers is slated for noon EDT and will be televised by ABC.

The 2023 season will be Tennessee’s third under head coach Josh Heupel.

Heupel guided Tennessee to a 18-8 (10-6 SEC) record and two bowl appearances from 2021-22.

Offensive skill position players can be defined as quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and wide receivers.

Freshman tight end Ethan Davis met with media following the Vols’ second practice.

The 6-foot-5, 232-pound Davis enrolled at Tennessee in January and took part in spring practices. He recorded three receptions for 53 yards in the Orange & White Game.

The 2022 early signing period is taking place Dec. 21-23 for the 2023 recruiting signing class.

The 2022 early signing period is Josh Heupel’s second as Tennessee’s head coach. He was hired as the Vols’ head coach in Jan. 2021.

Heupel guided the Vols to a 10-2 regular season in 2022.

No. 6 Tennessee (10-2, 6-2 SEC) will play No. 7 Clemson (11-2, 8-0 ACC) in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.

Kickoff between the Vols and Tigers is slated for 8 p.m. EST (ESPN) at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Ethan Davis signed with the Vols on Wednesday during the early signing period.

The 6-foot-5, 221-pound tight end prospect is from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

Michigan State is in pursuit of one of the best tight ends in the country, who is currently committed to Tennessee

Michigan State is in pursuit of one of the top tight ends in the 2023 recruiting class. The Spartans offered Ethan Davis, the No. 4 tight end in the 2023 class, who is currently committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Davis is a native of Suwanee, Georgia, and attends Collins Hill High School. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he ranks as a 4-star prospect and the No. 84 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.

Look for the Spartans coaching staff to try and get Davis on campus to potentially flip the standout tight end’s commitment.

Ohio State offers Tennessee tight end commit.

Ohio State and head coach Ryan Day have offered 2023 tight end prospect Ethan Davis.

“Blessed to receive an offer from the Ohio State University,” Davis announced. “Go Buckeyes.”

Davis committed to Tennessee on Dec. 12.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end is from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

Davis was offered by the Vols on May 25, 2021. He unofficially visited Tennessee on June 13 and Oct. 16 last year.

2023 tight end prospect Ethan Davis announced his commitment to Tennessee on Sunday.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end is from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

Davis was offered by the Vols on May 25. He unofficially visited Tennessee on June 13 and Oct. 16.

Tennessee will add more future Vols this week during the early signing period. The football early signing period takes place Dec. 15-17 for the 2022 recruiting class.
