Report: Titans set to host DL Esezi Otomewo in top-30 visit

The Titans are set to meet Minnesota DL Esezi Otomewo this week.

The Tennessee Titans will host Minnesota defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo for a top-30 visit this week, according to Ben Arthur of The Tennessean, who also notes Otomewo is projected to be drafted late Day 2 or later.

According to Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network, the 6-foot-6, 282-pound lineman’s ideal role is as a 4-3 defensive end.

Minnesota defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo is an intriguing developmental defensive lineman that offers prototypical size, length, and power to serve as a hand-in-the-dirt base end at the NFL level. The redshirt senior (not including added COVID-19 eligibility) prospect is someone I would still consider to be raw as a player, but he’s physically developed into the kind of body that you’d like to think you can find production from. Given his role in the Minnesota defensive front, I’m not sure this is someone who has been given a lot of opportunities to develop his pass-rush skill set and it would appear as though there’s some potential lurking under the surface to tap into. Otomewo is a powerful player with heavy hands and a lot of length. I’d like him best in a gap-control defense that asks him to stack and read blocks before implementing shedding techniques and continuing in pursuit of the football. Teams looking for organic pass rush help are probably going to need to search elsewhere, but as an early-down defender, I see plenty of appeal and even some versatility for Otomewo to step inside and help play as an interior defender.

Ideal role: Base 4-3 defensive end

Over four years with the Golden Gophers, Otomewo tallied 81 tackles (13.5 for loss), 7.5 sacks, and one forced and recovered fumble. In 2021, he finished with 30 tackles (4.5 for loss) and three sacks.

Report: Colts set for top-30 visit with DL Esezi Otomewo

The Colts reportedly have a top-30 visit set with Minnesota DL Esezi Otomewo.

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly preparing for a top-30 visit with Minnesota edge rusher Esezi Otomewo ahead of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Colts may have added Yannick Ngakoue to the defensive line via trade, but they are likely to be looking add depth through the draft. According to Mike Kaye of Pro Football Network, the Colts are set for an official visit with the former Gopher.

They are reportedly among three teams with official visits.

University of Minnesota edge rusher Esezi Otomewo has a busy road to the NFL Draft over the next few weeks. The 6-foot-6, 285-pound pass rusher has top-30 visits scheduled with the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, and Las Vegas Raiders, according to a league source who was not authorized to speak publicly on the meetings. Otomewo will also take part in the Minnesota Vikings’ local prospect day.”

In four seasons at Minnesota, Otomewo (6’6″, 285 pounds), recorded 7.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. He checked in with 34 7/8-inch arms and an 81.5-inch wingspan at Minnesota’s pro day. He didn’t test due to a knee injury and that’s likely why the Colts want a visit.

Leading up to the draft, the Colts will have these “official” visits. They are allowed to have 30 of these visits with prospects over the next month or so.

If you’re wondering what a top-30 visit is, here is an explanation from Jordan Reid of The Draft Network:

“Each team is allowed 30 opportunities to meet and greet NFL hopefuls and introduce them to coaches, front-office executives and scouts. On these visits, prospects will also tour the team’s facilities, address any questions, discuss scheme-specific things and undergo a medical examination.”

The Colts still need to add some depth to the defensive line and Otomewo could be a prospect they target on Day 3.
