Watch: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers talks offseason of ‘contemplation’ with Erin Andrews of FOX

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers talked about his offseason of “contemplation” during a sitdown with Erin Andrews of FOX.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sat down with Erin Andrews of FOX for a three-minute segment that aired on Sunday morning.

Rodgers and Andrews discussed a number of topics regarding his offseason of “contemplation.”

Among the highlights:

– “I wasn’t intentionally trying to kick up any drama,” Rodgers said. The aim wasn’t to negotiate an end result through the media.

– Rodgers said he thought a trade on draft day was possible.

– The big issue for Rodgers: “They wouldn’t commit to me past 2021. I figured, if they wanted to make a change even though I just won MVP, why wait? They drafted my replacement, so let him play if that’s what you want.”

– Rodgers said he “100 percent” thought about retirement. “I don’t think I have anything left to prove on the field.” He said there were many times during the offseason where he wasn’t sure if he could be all-in in 2021.

– Rodgers said it’s been “a decade” of wanting more input and a “greater impact” on what happens in Green Bay.

– On not having input: “I didn’t think, for a guy that might have a name up here at some point (points to Lambeau Field), that that was fair for what I’ve accomplished here.”

– On the input: “I don’t care about credit or fears you might have about giving me more of a voice, I care about winning, and about leaving the organization better than I found it.”

– On this season: “I just want to be happy. That’s why I’m going to enjoy this season.”

REPORT: Saints signed LB Demario Davis to 3-year contract extension

The New Orleans Saints signed linebacker Demario Davis to a three-year contract extension after hammering out Alvin Kamara’s new deal.

[jwplayer miLdPW1A-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints made waves on Saturday by agreeing to terms with running back Alvin Kamara on a five-year contract extension, but they appear to have burnt some midnight oil to work out a second big deal with linebacker Demario Davis. FOX Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews said on the broadcast of their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that Davis signed a new contract late Saturday night, which was confirmed by ESPN’s Mike Triplett.

That checks the most important box off the list of 2021 free agency needs in New Orleans, keeping their defensive captain in the fold for the forseeable future. The terms and value of Davis’s new deal have not yet been reported, but it’s a safe guess that he may have outperformed the three-year, $18 million contract he signed to join the Saints back in 2018.

Update: NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the deal between Davis and the Saints is valued at $27 million with $18.35 million in guarantees.

Davis emerged in 2019 to huge fanfare, competing with Seattle Seahawks star Bobby Wagner to be recognized as the NFL’s best three-down linebacker. Davis was an AP first-team All-Pro, and now he’s being rewarded for it. Just 31 and in the prime of his career, he should continue to lead the Saints defense moving forwards.

Eagles vs. Cowboys was highest-rated Week 16 game since 2015

Eagles vs. Cowboys was highest-rated Week 16 game since 2015

The Cowboys-Eagles rivalry has always been good for business and last Sunday’s Weeks 16 matchup with playoff implications was no different.

According to Sports Media Watch, the Eagles 17-9 victory over the Cowboys scored the NFL’s highest Week 16 ratings in four years.

Sunday’s Week 16 NFL national window (Cowboys-Eagles in 88% of markets) averaged a 14.2 rating and 25.32 million viewers on FOX, marking the highest-rated and most-watched Week 16 NFL window since 2015 (mostly Packers-Cardinals: 15.5, 27.81M).

The telecast ranks as the third-highest rated and fifth-most watched of the season. The Cowboys have played in three of the top five.

Five NFL windows this season have exceeded 25 million viewers, the most in a single season since 2016 (ten), and the Eagles have been involved two of those matchups (Patriots-Eagles).

Philadelphia was the top market followed by Seattle, where fans were monitoring the teams’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
