LeBron James supports Cavs reward in search for justice for Ericka Weems

The Los Angeles Lakers star shouted out his former team for donating a reward of $10,000 for information on the death of Ericka Weems.

LeBron James is a Laker for life now. After helping the storied franchise break a playoff drought of seven years and a championship drought of 10 years, in the same year in which Kobe Bryant tragically passed away, has helped to cement his legacy for every in Lakers lore. But he will also always be linked to Northeast Ohio, his hometown of Akron, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Over the past week, that connection has been brought up for tragic reasons, but LeBron supported the local Ohio NBA team as they look to bring justice to someone important to James and his circle.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Monday that they will offer a $10,000 reward for information on the killing of Ericka Weems, the sister Brandon Weems, who is currently the Cavaliers Director of Scouting and was also a high school teammate of LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s high school in Akron. James showed his support for the Cavs gesture on social media on Monday.

LeBron James calls for justice, information on death of Ericka Weems

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is calling for information on the death of his close friend Brandon Weems’ sister.

The results of the presidential election has received the majority of the headlines over the past few days and while LeBron James has been vocal in his support for Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris, tragedy struck those close to James over the weekend and James took to social media to ask for justice and information regarding the loss of a close friend’s relative.

Ericka Weems, 37, was killed in her home, according to LeBron James. Weems is the sister of one of LeBron’s childhood friends, Brandon Weems. Weems is currently the Director of Scouting for the Cleveland Cavaliers. James, and later Weems, both called for justice and information in Ericka’s death.

The Cleveland Cavaliers released a statement as well.

The entire Cavaliers organization was terribly saddened to learn about the recent tragic death of Brandon Weems’ sister Ericka. Our hearts are heavy and filled with pain over this senseless act. We express our deepest condolences to Brandon, the entire Weems family, their loved ones, and the Akron community. We will be with Brandon throughout this extremely difficult time and will offer our assistance and resources to help find justice for Ericka.
