Texas A&M softball land three players on the USA Softball Player of the Year Watchlist

USA Softball names Kennedy, Wooley, and Barbara to their 2025 Player of the Year Watchlist

On Wednesday, USA Softball named Texas A&M players Emiley Kennedy, Koko Wooley, and Mac Barbara to the Top 53 Watchlist for the 2025 Player of the Year,

The Aggies’ solo preseason All-America pitcher Emiley Kennedy leads the group. She ended last season as No. 2 in the SEC with nine wins and was among the country with 200 strikeouts. Coach Trisha Ford brought in additional help to relieve Kennedy, so she is fresh for a post-season run.

Wooley and Barbara will provide much-needed veteran leadership to the team. Wooley’s speed and Barbara’s power can give lighting and thunder dynamics when both are in the lineup together.

The Top 25 Finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced on April 30. While an athlete does not have to be on the Watch List to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be revealed May 14, and the final three will be released May 19. The 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women’s College World Series (WCWS).

The softball team will start the season with a doubleheader on February 6 against Utah State and Purdue at Davis Diamond.

D1Softball ranks Texas A&M ace in the top five of their pitching rankings

Texas A&M ace LHP Emiley Kennedy ranked fourth in D1Softball’s pitching rankings

There weren’t many pitchers in 2024 that were in the circle in high-pressure situations compared to Texas A&M senior LHP Emiley Kennedy. On Tuesday, D1Softball released its position rankings and named Kennedy No. 4 nationwide.

Kennedy was the workhorse for the Aggies last season, with over 200 innings pitched and 200 strikeouts. Her 10 shutouts were good enough for third-most in the nation, and she posted a 24-11 record with a 1.93 ERA. On top of earning Second Team All-American honors after her junior year, the All-SEC First Team selected her.

The Aggies have a strong team this season, and with coach Trisha Ford’s help, Kennedy will have a fresh arm to make a deep run.

The softball team will start the season with a doubleheader at Davis Diamond on February 6 against Utah State and Purdue.

Did the Texas A&M softball team make the 2025 preseason Top 25?

Texas A&M HC Trisha Ford will have a Top 10 team heading into the 2025 season

Spring is almost upon us, heralding the beginning of Texas A&M softball. Trisha Ford faces elevated expectations in her third year with a well-rounded team ready for a successful season.

On Monday, D1Softball released its preseason Top 25 rankings, and the Aggies ranked No. 7 for the 2025 college softball season. They currently have three consensus top 100 players: Emiley Kennedy, Koko Wooley, and transfer Mac Barbara, highlighting a talented roster.

Barbara leads a top 5 transfer class, and coach Ford made a point to bring in additional proven pitchers to give her ace Kennedy some relief after pitching over 200 innings last season. They also have a strong freshman class and a team loaded with speed that will cause problems on the base path.

The Aggies would be the top-ranked team if they were in any other conference. However, they reside in the SEC, where a team from the conference played the national title game in the last 11 of 12 series. It won’t be an easy path, but A&M has the weapons to make it interesting.

The softball team will start the season with a doubleheader at Davis Diamond on February 6 against Utah State and Purdue.

D1Softball names three Texas A&M softball players to their preseason Top 100

D1Softball names Kennedy, Wooley, and Barbara to their preseason top 100 players list

Davis Diamond will be the place to be in February when the Texas A&M softball team starts their 2025 campaign with one of the most complete teams head coach Trisha Ford since arriving a few years ago.

With the graduation of several key leaders, such as Rylan Wiggins, Trinity Cannon, and Julia Cottrill, coach Ford knew she had to plug some important holes to stay competitive in the SEC. However, she would not be starting from scratch, bringing back All-American pitch Emily Kennedy and veteran infielder Koko Wooley.

She added the powerful Mac Barbara from San Diego State through the portal and a few promising pitches to help support her ace. In any other conference, the Aggies would probably be at the top of the rankings, but this is the SEC, where softball, hands down, is the toughest in the land.

Texas A&M softball star pitcher named as Preseason First Team All-American

Texas A&M power LHP Emiley Kennedy named as Softball American Preseason All-American First Teamer

Texas A&M softball ace pitcher Emiley Kennedy had a breakout season last year and was coach Trisha Ford’s go-pitcher when she needed to get out of a pinch. In early January, Softball America named Kennedy to the Preseason All-American First Team.

Kennedy was the workhorse for the Aggies last season, with over 200 innings pitched and 200 strikeouts. Her 10 shutouts were good enough for third-most in the nation, and she posted a 24-11 record with a 1.93 ERA. On top of earning Second Team All-American honors after her junior year, she was selected by the All-SEC First Team.

A&M fans can expect another solid year from their top pitcher, and she will be more refreshed down the stretch as coach Ford made a concerted effort to bring more talented arms for the 2025 season.

The softball team will start the season with a doubleheader at Davis Diamond on February 6 against Utah State and Purdue.

Everything Coach Trisha Ford and her team had to say after the Super Regional

Everything Coach Trisha Ford, Cannon, and Wiggins had to say after the Austin Super Regional

The Texas A&M softball team’s season has come to an end after a very impressive 2024 campaign. After a hard-fought weekend, the Texas Longhorns outlasted the Aggies in Game Three of the Austin Super Regional beating them 6-5. Nothing about those three games made A&M look like a No. 16 seed outside of the powers that be wanting an Aggies versus Longhorn matchup.

Even, with that underseeding each game was decided one run and went down to the absolute wire. A&M did have a few chances in Game Two to put the game away but just missed out and Texas is the number-one team in the nation for a reason. However, you can only ask your team to play their hardest and leave it all on the field, and that’s what her team did.

“This is a hard one. As a coach, all you want is for your players to play hard and for themselves and to compete their tails off. I feel like it was such an honor to coach these women.” -Coach Ford

Texas A&M’s season comes to an end after losing Game three 6-5 to Texas

Texas A&M battled the end but came up just short losing 5-6 to Texas in the Austin Super Regional ending their 2024 season

In what will go down as one of the most nerve-wracking Super Regionals this season, No. 16 seed Texas A&M could not complete the upset of No. 1 seed Texas at the Austin Super Regional. The Aggies gave the No. 1 team in the country all they could handle for three straight days but ultimately lost in three games, 6-5, ending their season.

Like the previous two games, the A&M was the first to get on the board when senior Trinity Cannon continued her RBI streak when she hit a double to score Koko Wooley for an early 1-0. The Longhorns didn’t wait as long to strike back, this time, putting up two in the bottom of the third off a wild pitch and double off the bat of Viviana Martinez. They extended their lead with a solo home run by Mia Scott for a score of 3-1 before the Aggies would get back on the board.

Jazmine Hill was able to bring Cannon home on a fielder-choice single, but the A&M would leave a few stranded. The Longhorns have been doing most of their damage in the sixth inning during this series, and game three was no different. A throwing error allowed one score and hits by Scott and Martinez brought home another two runs, pushing the lead to 6-2 with one inning left.

Then, in true Aggie fashion, they did not go down without a fight. With two on base and one out, Julia Cottrill, in what was her last college at-bat, hit a three-run home run to bring the Aggies within one score.

However, it wasn’t meant to be, as the Aggies struck out looking, stranding two on base, ending a very entertaining season for Coach Trisha Ford and her team.

Now, this is not the ending A&M wanted, but they have a lot to be proud of, considering most preseason rankings didn’t have them making it this far. Join us in congratulating the Texas A&M softball team on an impressive year two under Coach Ford.

16-seed Texas A&M softball drops Game 2 vs. No. 1-seed Texas in extra innings

Texas A&M’s Mya Perez’s three-run home run sent the Aggies into extra innings but failed to secure the series win vs. Texas

In one of the most exciting softball games on the weekend, 16-seed Texas A&M came up just short in extra innings vs. No.1-seed Texas Longhorns, failing to capitalize off freshman Mya Perez’s three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Returning to the mound for the second straight day, pitcher Emiley Kennedy hopefully has a giant ice bag on her arm. The junior ace gave it her all for six innings before exiting, but she had to come back in to finish the game after Brooke Vestal struggled for one inning.

Despite her impressive performance, Kennedy allowed 14 hits and six earned runs, highlighting the need for more reliable arms on the Aggies’ roster. As the team enters the offseason, head coach Trisha Ford will undoubtedly look to bolster the pitching staff to prevent the overuse of their star player.

At the plate, the Aggies, like in Game 1, took an early 3-0 lead after Jazmine Hill’s two-run homer and Kennedy Powell’s RBI single in the first. Trinity Cannon added to her productive weekend with her third home run in the 5th, extending the lead to 5-1 heading into what was a game-changing sixth inning.

Due to several poor fielding decisions and Kennedy/Vistral’s pitching woes, Texas went on a scoring rampage to re-take lead at 6-5. Held scoreless in the bottom of the frame, the Longhorns tacked on three more runs off a Bella Dayton homer.

However, the Aggies weren’t finished, as freshman Mya Perez deserves a spot on Sport Center’s Top 10 after what she did on Saturday night, stepping up to the plate with two on base and two outs, and down to her last strike, only to power a three-run shot to tie game and send things into extra innings.

Going into extra innings, the Aggies failed to capitalize on the momentum. At the same time, the Longhorns strategically added what became the game-winning run from the speedy Kayden Henry in the top of the 9th. With two on base in the bottom of the frame, Kramer Eschette grounded into a double-play to end the game.

Texas A&M will take on Texas in a series-deciding Game 3 on Sunday night. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. and will air on ESPN2.
