2023 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships: Vols’ first-round tennis schedule

NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will take place May 22-27 at USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida.

Three Vols will compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.

Emile Hudd and Johannus Monday will compete in singles competition, while Pat Harper will play in doubles competition.

Monday, May 22 – Singles Round of 64 schedule:

1 p.m. EDT – Johannus Monday (5) versus Ryan Fishback, Virginia Tech

1:30 p.m. EDT – Emile Hudd versus Arthur Fery (3), Stanford

Tuesday, May 23

Time TBA – Johannus Monday/Pat Harper (5-8) versus Natan Rodrigues/Fabien Salle, Louisville

Match format:

All singles and doubles matches are best two-out-of-three sets. In doubles play, a 10-point super tiebreak will be used in lieu of a third set.

Emile Hudd named CSC Academic All-District

Tennessee’s Emile Hudd named CSC Academic All-District.

Tennessee’s Emile Hudd was named to the 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Tennis Team by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

The 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Tennis Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Hudd is the sixth Vol all-time to earn CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors. He achieved All-District honors by earning a 3.75 GPA through graduate school, after recording a 3.61 GPA as an undergraduate.

The Vols will host South Carolina on Saturday in a NCAA Tournament Super Regional match. First serve between the Vols and Gamecocks is slated for 3 p.m. EDT at Barksdale Stadium.

Emile Hudd named SEC Player of the Week

Tennessee’s Emile Hudd named SEC Player of the Week.

Tennessee men’s tennis player Emile Hudd was named SEC Player of the Week Wednesday.

Hudd, a graduate student who hails from London, England, went 4-0 and won a match-clinching victory in the Vols’ SEC victory versus Kentucky.

Hudd defeated the Wildcats’ Alafia Ayeni in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

He defeated three ranked opponents last week.

In doubles competition, Hudd and Shunsuki Mitsui outlasted Kentucky’s Joshua Lapadat and JJ Mercer, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point. Kentucky’s duo is ranked No. 38 in the country.

Against Mississippi State, Hudd and Mitsui defeated the Bulldogs’ team of Ewen Lumsden and Petar Jovanovic (No. 74), 6-0.

Hudd also defeated Jovanovic in singles competition, 6-1, 7-6 (7).
