Bigtime New Jersey playmaker Emanuel Ross continues to eye official visits

Emanuel Ross has four official visits lined up with one more potentially in the mix.

Things are about to start getting very busy for Emanuel Ross as one of New Jersey’s top athletes has several prominent official visits lined up.

Ross, a 6-foot-2 and 190-pound wide receiver from Red Bank Catholic (Red Bank, N.J.), is a three-star recruit and the seventh-best player in the state according to 247Sports. He is coming off a Rivals New Jersey camp last weekend where he was among the best players in attendance.

He tells Rutgers Wire that he currently has four official visits lined up in June, starting with Stanford on the first weekend of the month. He then will visit Kentucky the following weekend, take a midweek visit to Michigan State and close things out with Texas A&M.

One program that is making a late impression on Ross is Nebraska, with Ross citing a relationship with their running backs coach.

“Recently I’ve been in communication with Nebraska. I know coach E.J. Barthel from UConn. Now I’m starting to build a relationship with Nebraska,” Ross said.

“They reached out awhile back, but now they’re reaching out a little bit more.”

Barthel is part of Matt Rhule’s first coaching staff at Nebraska since taking over the program this offseason.

Ross, who plays as a wide receiver and a defensive back, is also a standout performer in spring track. As for which programs are showing him the most attention, he says several schools are standing out in that regard.

“Stanford is in hard pursuit, I have a good relationship with them. Illinois was in early on me,” Ross said. “Kentucky has been showing me strong interest as well. Texas A&M is a new one but we’re building a connection now too.”

While he has position versatility, Ross said he would prefer to be a wide receiver in college. Michigan State and Stanford have both offered him as a defensive back, something he said he is very willing to play at the next level.

Name, Image and Likeness is also part of the equation for Ross. It just isn’t the most important component, he says.

“NIL is a great opportunity for us athletes but I wouldn’t want to base my recruitment straight off of it. I don’t want to make my decision off an NIL package,” Ross said.

“I’m looking for a combination of academics – I’d like to see a school that helps its student-athletes prioritize time management.”

He is hoping to make a decision sometime in June or July. Ross will rely on advice from his parents and his advisor, Latish Kinsler, in helping to guide his decision.

Kinsler, a former standout college player at Cincinnati who played in the NFL and arena football, is advising a number of top New Jersey athletes including Nyier Daniels and Yasin Willis among others.

“He definitely has a lot of connections at the next level. He has friends who coach at the next level. He helps me understand the process,” Ross said.

“He also is really helpful with NIL and (he) helps to advise on the possibilities that are present for a student-athlete.”

Clemson following talented New Jersey receiver closely

This past weekend, Clemson played host to a wide receiver target that’s emerged as a priority for Tyler Grisham and staff, ever since he participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp in June.

Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic 2024 WR Emanuel Ross was in attendance for Clemson’s 35-12 win over Furman on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium.

Ross — a 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior in the class of 2024 — had a chance to catch up with The Clemson Insider regarding his latest trip to Clemson and what he’s been hearing from the program’s wide receivers coach ever since the calendar turned to Sept. 1.

“It was good. It was my first time getting out for a game environment because the last time I was there, the campus was kind of empty,” Ross said in a phone interview Thursday. “It was fun getting out there and seeing all the fans and seeing all the students out there.”

Was there any part of Saturday’s experience that stood out to Ross?

“Just getting to go back to the locker room with the team and seeing how they reacted to win was exciting,” he said.

Ross had the chance to spend some time with Grisham after Clemson’s home opener.

“I just got to hear that they’re keeping a close eye on me,” Ross said regarding what he’s heard from Clemson’s wide receivers coach. “Coach Grisham reaches out a lot, even when I’m back in Jersey, we talk. It was just honestly a time for us to hang out and get to know each other more.”

Clemson was one of the first schools to reach out to Ross at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 1. Since then, he estimates that he texts with Grisham at least once a day

“They’re following me closely and I think the one thing they’re waiting for is for me to wrap up my junior season, I think,” he said when asked about a potential scholarship offer. “But, yeah, they’re watching me closely right now.”

“I really liked how the way Clemson has been recruiting me is really personal,” Ross added. “You can tell that they’re very thorough with it. It doesn’t feel like they’re bulk recruiting. It feels like they’re taking time to get to know you as recruits.”

In addition to Clemson, Ross has been in contact with schools like Rutgers, Wake Forest, Boston College, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, to name a few. He currently holds offers from Coastal Carolina, UConn, Duke, UMass, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, Temple and West Virginia.

While Ross was invited to attend as many Clemson home games as he’d like this season, including this weekend’s 8 p.m. game against Louisiana Tech, he acknowledged that it’s tough from a transportation standpoint.

After watching Clemson in person this past Saturday, Ross will have the chance to see the Tigers two more times. Ross is set to be in attendance for when Wake Forest plays host to Clemson next Saturday, Sept. 24 and when Boston College plays host to the Tigers come Oct. 8.

“It actually was a coincidence that it fell into my schedule three times,” he said.

Ross’ junior campaign has gotten off to a hot start. His Red Bank Catholic team is off to a 3-0 start and he’s scored in every game this season.

Top prospects headed to Death Valley for Clemson-Furman game

Clemson will again play host to some top prospects for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. game against Furman in Death Valley.

Here are some of the bigger names The Clemson Insider has confirmed as planned visitors for the Clemson-Furman game.

A couple of headliners among the recruits expected to be in attendance are a five-star class of 2024 prospect in Jefferson (Ga.) linebacker Sammy Brown and a four-star class of 2023 prospect in Phenix City (Ala.) Central defensive end Tomarrion Parker.

Brown is the No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, which also tabs Parker as the No. 12 defensive lineman in the 2023 class.

Brown was contacted by multiple members of Clemson’s staff — including head coach Dabo Swinneydefensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin and co-defensive coordinator Mickey Conn – on Thursday, Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin actively reaching out to junior prospects in the class of 2024.

“I heard from most of the defensive coaching staff, Coach Goodwin, Coach Conn, etc.,” Brown told The Clemson Insider shortly after. “I actually heard from Coach Swinney as well.”

Brown became the first prospect in the 2024 class to receive an offer from Clemson when he picked up the offer while on campus for the program’s underclassmen day on March 12. He then returned on April 6 to take in the Tigers’ final spring practice prior to their April 9 spring game, before most recently traveling back to campus for another visit during the Swinney Camp in June.

The 6-foot-2, 227-pound blue-chip recruit told TCI he is planning to visit Clemson again for its first home game of the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 10 vs. Furman.

“I think that we’re going to the Furman game (Saturday),” he said. “My parents went to Furman, so kinda lines up.”

As for Parker, after receiving an offer from Clemson on Aug. 11, he set up two visits to Death Valley — an unofficial visit for this Saturday and an official visit for the Syracuse game on Oct. 22.

A big-time receiver from the Garden State is slated to be on hand for Saturday’s game as well in Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic three-star Emanuel Ross, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound rising junior in the class of 2024 – who worked out at the Swinney Camp the weekend of June 10-12.

Ross certainly left Clemson impressed following his first-ever visit to the school.

“Honestly, the family environment – the school’s very family oriented,” Ross told TCI earlier this summer. “It’s not like a state college, so everything felt so close, and I just loved it.”

Among other notable recruits on Clemson’s anticipated guest list for Saturday’s game are Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit 2024 three-star linebacker Drew Woodaz, Charlotte (N.C.) Christian School 2024 RB Ryan Henley, Greenville (S.C.) 2024 WR Mac McLean, Lexington (S.C.) River Bluff 2025 QB Parker Murray and River Bluff (S.C.) 2025 K/P Tripp Bryant.

*Prospects like Chula Vista (Calif.) Mater Dei Catholic 2024 four-star cornerback Isaiah Buxton and Austin (Texas) Vandegrift 2024 offensive lineman Blake Frazier were invited to Saturday afternoon’s game but will be unable to attend.

Talented New Jersey receiver ‘felt at home’ at Clemson

A promising young prospect from the Garden State, who has already garnered close to double-digit Division I offers, made his first-ever trip to Clemson for the Dabo Swinney Camp earlier this month.

Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic High School wide receiver Emanuel Ross – a 6-foot-2, 190-pound rising junior in the class of 2024 – worked out at the Swinney Camp the weekend of June 10-12.

“I actually loved it,” Ross told The Clemson Insider. “I had a great experience there. I felt welcomed, I felt at home, and I loved the coaching staff.”

Ross enjoyed working with Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham, as well as Swinney, while showcasing his talent as a wideout during his time at the camp.

“I think the highlight of the camp experience was actually just being able to interact with Coach Swinney, Coach Grisham, and the coaches were really involved with the (campers),” he said.

“I enjoyed their time. I feel like we had pretty good chemistry,” Ross added. “I loved working with them. I’d like to say they enjoyed working with me as well. But I’m just looking forward to being able to work with them again sometime.”

While Ross isn’t sure where he stands with the Tigers early in the recruiting process or what exactly their interest level in him is, he performed well at the camp and thinks the coaches liked what they saw from him.

“It’s hard to know what’s going through their mind, but I believe they liked me,” he said. “Not too much that I know about what’s going through with their recruiting process, but I’d like to hope it was good.”

Ross – who recorded 16 receptions for 323 yards and six touchdowns to go with 96 return yards on three attempts as a sophomore last season – feels he could bring a lot to the table for Clemson or another college football program in the future.

“I think I could bring my ball skills and my desire to win, my competitiveness and just overall athleticism,” he said.

Illinois gave Ross his latest offer earlier this month, joining Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, West Virginia, Temple, Coastal Carolina, UConn and UMass on his offer list.

What would it mean to him to add an offer Clemson moving forward?

“It would mean the world to me,” he said. “Clemson is actually my dream school, so I would love to receive an offer from Clemson.”

Ross certainly left Clemson impressed following his first-ever visit to the school.

“Honestly, the family environment – the school’s very family oriented,” he said. “It’s not like a state college, so everything felt so close, and I just loved it.”
