CU Buffs’ transfer Elijah Parquet set to visit UNLV this weekend

Elijah Parquet will continue his search for a new home this weekend when he visits UNLV

Colorado guard Elijah Parquet was among the group of seniors honored — although he didn’t play — on a very special senior night in February, one that no player or fan will ever forget as the Buffs upset the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats. Now, Parquet is looking to use his final year of NCAA eligibility elsewhere, and he is set for a visit to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas this weekend, per basketball insider Adam Zagoria.

Best known for his stout defensive play, Parquet was averaging a career-best 6.9 points per game last season before he was sidelined with a foot injury on Jan. 27 against the Washington Huskies. Through 18 games played, he managed to shoot 44.3% from the field and had 13 blocks and 14 steals. As a junior in 2020-21, he was named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Defensive Team.

Last season, the Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV finished with an 18-14 overall record and a 10-8 record against other Mountain West opponents. Notably, they went 2-0 against the Colorado State Rams, who finished the season at No. 24 in the AP Poll and earned an NCAA Tournament bid.

Buffs lose Elijah Parquet for the season

Elijah Parquet is done for the season

The Colorado Buffaloes’ chances at earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, or even the NIT, just took a massive blow.

After a 15-point loss to Oregon on Thursday night, head coach Tad Boyle said that Elijah Parquet’s season is finished due to a foot injury, according to Pat Rooney of BuffZone.

Parquet has been sidelined since the Jan. 27 contest against Washington and now his senior season and likely his Buffs career has reached an end.

The senior guard was averaging a career-high 6.9 points per game this season, although Parquet has made his mark on the defensive end for years since coming to Boulder.

Parquet’s absence will be a big one for Tad Boyle’s group to overcome, especially with an uphill climb at making the NCAA Tournament.

After losing to the Ducks, Colorado dropped to 13-9 overall and 5-7 in the Pac-12. Plain and simple, they need help and a winning streak to climb back into the conversation, and losing Parquet is a massive blow to their chances.

Following this big hit and Lawson Lovering’s recent season-ending injury, the Buffs are now down to nine healthy scholarship players Who will fill the void?

Injury update: Elijah Parquet available vs. Oregon, but not in starting lineup

Elijah Parquet is back

All-Pac-12 defender Elijah Parquet, who has missed Colorado’s two previous games due to a lower-leg injury, is back in uniform and available for the Buffs’ long-awaited game at Oregon.

Although he has started every game this season prior to his injury, Parquet will begin Tuesday night’s matchup on the bench. Nique Clifford will get his third consecutive start instead.

Assumedly, Tad Boyle is letting Parquet ease back into action. The senior guard was wearing a walking boot as recently as the USC game on Thursday, so his quick return is a pleasant surprise.

Parquet has averaged 7.1 points (a career-high) and 2.3 rebounds in 16 games this season.
