A former Husker will start the new season on a new team in England Women’s Football. Sunderland AFC Women announced that it signed Eleanor Dale for the upcoming season.

Dale signed with Sunderland on July 4 after spending time with Everton FC earlier in the year. She joined Everton in February and spent the latter half of the season with the team, making eight appearances.

Everton plays in the Women’s Super League, the top league in England, while Sunderland is in the Championship League, the second tier. Dale joins Sunderland after her contract with Everton and is delighted to be a part of her new team.

It’s a great Club with great ambition and I’m really looking forward to getting the season started. I’ve played with some of the girls on the team before so it’s nice coming into a club with familiar faces and being close to home.

At Nebraska, Dale was a First-Team All-American and won the Big Ten Forward of the Year award in her senior season. She rewrote the Huskers’ record books, scoring a program-record 28 goals while leading Nebraska to the NCAA Elite Eight.

A former Husker is now a part of a professional football club in her home country. Everton Women FC, a club in Liverpool, England, announced that former Nebraska soccer player Eleanor Dale signed with the team.

Everton is a part of the Women’s Super League, the top division of English women’s football. Dale, a native of Billingham, England, joins the Blues following a historic season to conclude her collegiate career at Nebraska. Dale led the nation in goals with 28 on the season and ranked third in Big Ten history in single-season goals.

She also helped the Huskers reach their third Elite Eight appearance in program history. With her total goals, she also broke the school record for goals in a season, which was held by Kim Engesser, who set the record with 27 goals in 1998.

Dale broke the record in Nebraska’s 4-0 victory against UC-Irvine in the Sweet Sixteen to end her career with 44 goals, the sixth-best in school history.

The Huskers continued their momentous 2023 campaign with a Sweet Sixteen showdown against UC Irvine. For the first time since 1999, Nebraska took victory to advance to the Elite Eight.

The Huskers fired off on all-cylinders on offense, finishing with 25 shots and nine on goal. Though the Anteaters only earned 11 shots in the match, eight were on goal. But Sami Hauk faced seven of those shots on goal and stopped all of them, helping to complete the shutout.

Abbey Schwarz struck first for Nebraska, scoring under 14 minutes into the match, putting the Huskers up early. Eleanor Dale then made history, scoring two of Nebraska’s following three goals, setting a new school record for goals in a season. Dale leads the nation with 28 goals on the season, surpassing Kim Engesser, who set the record back in 1998 with 27.

Haley Peterson rounded out Nebraska’s scoring field, nailing her first goal of the season off a corner kick.

Nebraska advances to the Elite Eight and will play either Stanford or Mississippi State. The match time and date are to be determined.

South Dakota State and Nebraska clashed throughout the first half, ending with the Huskers ahead 3-2. Nebraska ran away with the lead in the second half, adding two more goals to secure the win.

Sarah Weber and Sadie Waite scored two goals on the night. Eleanor Dale added to her career year with her 26th goal of the season. Dale is now one goal away from tying the school record for goals in a season. On defense, Sami Hauk secured four saves off six shots on goal faced.

Nebraska advances to the second round of the tournament for the third time in the last ten years. It will either play Tennessee or Xavier and could advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2004. The time and date for the next match is to be determined.

A Nebraska soccer player has been named the Big Ten Forward of the Year.

A Nebraska soccer player has been named the Big Ten Forward of the Year. Eleanor Dale is the first Husker women’s soccer player to earn the conference honor.

Dale led the country in goals (23) and game-winning goals (7). She also led the conference in shots (110), shots on goal (53) and points (50).

The England native now stands at third on Nebraska’s season goal list. She trails Kim Engesser, who scored 26 goals in 1997 and 27 goals in 1998.

Dale was even named to the All-Big Ten First Team with teammate Sarah Weber. Haley Peterson and Jordan Zade were named to the conference Second-Team.

The Nebraska women’s soccer team will take to the field again on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 1:00 p.m. The Huskers will host Ohio State in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament.
