The ‘Edwin Diaz Challenge’ on social media is the best use of the Mets closer’s entrance song

The Edwin Diaz Challenge is so perfect.

We should have all seen this coming. Really.

Edwin Diaz’s super awesome entrance song — Narco, by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet — has taken the MLB world by storm, becoming one of the best bullpen entrance songs of all time and giving the MLB world everything we need right now.

But the next, seemingly inevitable step, was for the song to be used by EVERYONE when they’re walking into something, whether it’s a meeting, their morning at work or, well, anything else.

And that’s what happened: The Edwin Diaz Challenge has become a social media sensation. Here’s a roundup of the best ones we’ve seen:

Brothers Alexis Diaz, Edwin Diaz exchange lineup cards before Reds, Mets game in wholesome moment

What a special moment for Alexis Diaz and Edwin Diaz!

Now this is quite the showing of brotherly love!

On Tuesday, the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds were set to face off for a mid-season bout. Ahead of the game, brothers Alexis Diaz of the Reds and Edwin Diaz of the Mets came out to exchange lineup cards as the pair’s teams were set to go head to head.

In an incredibly wholesome display, the Diaz brothers shared a wonderful moment at home plate as the pair went in for a hug. Not only that, their parents were in attendance and were spotted wearing split Mets and Reds jerseys as well.

Seriously, look how happy they are!

While the pair have faced off before this season, this moment is still quite the special one for the close siblings!

Where Mets’ Edwin Diaz’s amazin’ entrance music ranks on the top all-time best MLB closer entrance songs

Is there anything better than Mr. Met playing the trumpet?

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz has legitimately become one of the most popular players in baseball this week, and it’s all because of a song.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you probably haven’t spent much time on Twitter. Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Here is everything you need to know about “Narco” by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet — which is the epic song Diaz uses as he trots to the pitcher’s mound at Citi Field.

As we recently wrote, Diaz’s tremendous bullpen entrance is exactly what the MLB needs right now. The recent video of the closer coming into the game for the Mets at Citi Field on Sunday went viral, and a couple recently used it as the walk-out song at their wedding to honor Diaz.

The recent hype for Diaz got us thinking: Where does this rank among the best entrances for relief pitchers in MLB history? How does it stack up with “Hells Bells” for Trevor Hoffman and “Enter Sandman” for Mariano Rivera?

Note that songs were excluded if it wasn’t from an actual MLB pitcher (so no “Wild Thing” from the “Major League” movie) or if there was no video that I could find (no “Bad To The Bone” for Dennis Eckersley or Goose Gossage).

Otherwise, this is how I rank the best walkout songs in baseball history:

Everything you need to know about Edwin Diaz’s awesome entrance song

Facts, stories and so much more about Edwin Diaz’s epic entrance song.

Edwin Diaz has truly taken over MLB Twitter.

Oh sure, the New York Mets closer is having a Cy Young-esque season as the best closer in baseball this year: A 1.38 ERA, 26 saves and 91 Ks in 45.1 innings (WHEW!) as of posting this in mid-August.

But it’s his entrance song that has Mets fans partying, Mr. and Mrs. Met dancing with trumpets and everyone else buzzing every time he comes in.

So we figured it was a good time to talk all about the song: Narco by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet. There are a lot of facts about this thing that we want to share so that you know more about it:

Edwin Diaz’s tremendous bullpen entrance is exactly what MLB needs right now

Go all in on this, MLB!

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

Major League Baseball has long been bad at promoting its stars. It’s like the league can’t figure out ways to make their game more likable for fans all over the country. And when it comes to growing the game and being more cool, Rob Manfred and Co. usually come up woefully short in their minimal efforts.

Well, congrats MLB because you’ve been handed a gift and it’s time that you go all in on this and celebrate it and show it off every chance you get because it’s pretty damn awesome and it’s pretty much universally loved by everyone who watches baseball. It’s also something that even non baseball fans would want to go out of their way to watch, which doesn’t happen all that often for baseball.

I’m talking, of course, about Mets closer Edwin Diaz and his tremendous bullpen entrances. The two-time All-Star has been doing this for a while now but Sunday’s went incredibly viral because of the camera angle and the atmosphere that it showed off… and just because it was so darn cool.

Check this out:

Not only is the video awesome – I get chills every time the trumpets kick in – but as of this writing it had 7.6 million views. That’s not for a home run or a cool play in the field. That’s for a guy walking out of a bullpen and making his way to the mound.

7.6 million views.

Somebody within MLB headquarters needs to recognize this and let someone else know that these entrances need to become a thing. Games on MLB Network need to break in to Mets home games when Diaz is getting ready make the walk. ESPN and FS1 need to be pushed to do the same. I need an Edwin Diaz cam whenever those trumpets are about to go off.

The MLB season can get really boring at times and these walkouts are the opposite of that. They can be something that everyone rallies around and looks forward to. They can bring excitement to the game (imagine that!). If you need any proof just look at the comments on that video – a lot of them are from people saying they don’t like the Mets at all but they love the Diaz walk. That has to be easy money for MLB execs.

The good news is the Mets are currently seven games up in the NL East and should make the playoffs, which means we could get some of these in the postseason. I’m fired up just thinking about what those moments would be like – the music blaring, the stadium absolutely rocking. It will be what baseball often is not – fun.

Congrats on this beautiful gift, MLB. Don’t waste it!

This angle of Mets closer Edwin Díaz’s absolutely electric bullpen entrance is so darn awesome

CHILLS.

I don’t know if you watch a lot of New York Mets games or have seen highlights of this before but the team’s closer, Edwin Díaz, has the coolest entrance in the history of baseball (sorry, Mariano Rivera) and this new angle of it from Sunday’s game is just the best thing I’ve seen in a while.

Diaz comes out to the song “Narco,” which will soon be the entrance song for a couple’s wedding after getting a ton of likes on social media. It’s an incredible song that I’m going to wake up to each morning from now until the rest of time.

The scene and the sounds when Diaz enters games at home to close them out is just pure theater. This angle from behind as he makes his way out onto the field is the best.

Watch this:

That’s just tremendous.

MLB fans loved it.

Mets fans ensured that a couple will use Edwin Díaz’s walk-out song as their wedding entrance

This couple will 100% have the best walk-out of wedding season.

Edwin Díaz is having one of the best seasons of his career as a closer with the New York Mets.

He earned his second All-Star nod this season — joining his impressive 2018 campaign when he was with the Seattle Mariners — and the Mets have a 4.5 game lead over the Atlanta Braves with 57 games left in the regular season. He’s worked his way into the discussion for NL Cy Young contention, and now Díaz is going add another accomplishment to the list: sharing his walk-out song with a couple getting married.

Broadcaster John Nolan, who is a Syracuse alum, took to twitter on August 5th and declared that if the tweet got 3,900 likes (a very random and specific number), his fiancée said that they could use Díaz’s walk-out song “Narco.”

Spoiler alert: Nolan got way more likes than they needed.

At time of publish, the tweet was up to 8,500 likes, meaning Nolan and his fiancée will be walking into their wedding reception to the dulcet tones of Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet. Honestly, the song is a total banger, and it’s going to be incredible.

The lesson here: never underestimate the power of Mets fans.
