Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks Game 7 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks meet Monday in Game 7 of their Western Conference 2nd-round series. Puck drop from Rogers Arena is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN). Series tied 3-3. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Canucks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Oilers staved off elimination with a 5-1 win on home ice Saturday in Game 6 against the Canucks, pushing on the total (6) at most shops. Vancouver opened with a win in Game 1, and the teams have alternated wins and losses ever since.

While we had a push in Game 6, we’ve had an average of just 5.33 goals per game (GPG) in the past 3 outings, after we had 7.7 GPG in the 1st 3 games of the series, all Over results.

Game 6 was actually tied 1-1 after the 1st period, but that’s when Zach Hyman and Evan Bouchard came alive with goals in the 2nd period. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane added to the fun with goals in the 3rd period.

Oilers at Canucks projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (6-3-0, 2.97 GAA, .881 SV%, 1 SO — 2024 playoffs) vs. Arturs Silovs (5-4-0, 2.89 GAA, .898 SV%, 1 SO — 2024 playoffs)

Coach Kris Knoblauch started Calvin Pickard in Games 4 and 5, and Pickard made his 1st-career postseason start in Game 4. The coach went back to the All-Star Skinner for Game 6, and he allowed just a single goal on 15 shots in the win, forcing a decisive Game 7.

Coach Rick Tocchet has ruled out All-Star Thatcher Demko (knee) for Game 7, so it appears it will be Silovs again for Game 7. He allowed 5 goals on 27 shots in the loss, and he has conceded 3 or more goals in 5 of the past 6 starts.

Oilers at Canucks picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 3, Canucks 2

Moneyline

The OILERS (-155) are a solid play as moderate road favorites in this decisive Game 7.

These teams are meeting for just the 3rd time in NHL postseason history, but hopefully we get many more meetings in the future. This has been an entertaining series, with plenty of twists and turns.

The Canucks (+130) had a chance to salt things away in Game 6, but Silovs had his worst performance of the postseason.

Skinner looked like he had his swagger back in Game 6, and Edmonton is the play with its high-octane offense.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Canucks +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s quite a bit of risk if you need a little bit of insurance.

If you like Vancouver, bet it straight up instead.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (-120) is the best play on the board in a Game 7.

Neither team will be keen on taking chances, potentially leading to an odd-man break the other way, and a scoring opportunity. Shots on goal, and goals in general, will be at a premium. We should see a low-scoring game with plenty of physicality.

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers battle the Vancouver Canucks Thursday in Game 5 of a best-of-7 Western Conference 2nd-round series. Puck drop from Rogers Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Canucks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Oilers evened the series 2-2 at home on Tuesday after taking down the Canucks 3-2 and covering as -203 home favorites. Three Edmonton players scored and 5 players had an assist while C Leon Draisaitl and D Evan Bouchard each had a goal and an assist.

After taking a game on the road, Vancouver was unable to do so again on Tuesday while failing to cover as a +180 road underdog. RW Conor Garland and C Dakota Joshua each found the back of the net.

Oilers at Canucks projected goalies

Calvin Pickard (12-7-1, 2.45 GAA, .909 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Arturs Silovs (3-0-1, 2.47 GAA, .881 SV%)

While G Stuart Skinner has been the main goalie for the Oilers throughout the playoffs, Pickard closed out Game 3 and got the win in Game 4. Those have been his only 2 playoff appearances for Edmonton thus far while he has allowed only 2 goals in just under 80 minutes of action.

Silovs remains the top choice for the Canucks after starting 7 games in a row in the playoffs. He has allowed 14 goals so far in the series including just 3 each in both of the previous 2 games and a .900 or better SV% in that span.

Oilers at Canucks picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 3, Canucks 2

Moneyline

BET OILERS (-145).

The Oilers won a critical Game 4 at home to even the series on Tuesday, holding the Canucks to just 2 goals. Each game in this back-and-forth series has been separated by a single goal with both goalies performing well. Winning 2 of the last 3 games in the series, including the most recent in Vancouver, Edmonton holds the advantage heading into Game 5.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

With each game being separated by a single goal, this is minimal value on the puck line.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 6.5 (-120).

While the Over has hit in 3 of the 4 games in this series, it seemed like both teams started to settle in on Tuesday. The Oilers scored a goal in each period while both of the Vancouver goals came in the final period. Each team has scored a total of 6 goals in the previous 2 games combined and in a critical Game 5, expect each defense to continue to play an amplified role.

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks meet in Game 2 of a best-of-7 Western Conference, 2nd-round series Friday. The Canucks lead 1-0. Puck drop from Rogers Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Canucks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

No lead is safe in the 2nd round of these Western Conference playoffs. The Oilers found that out in a 5-4 Game 1 loss Wednesday. They were -128 road favorites as the Canucks were +116 underdogs and the Over (6) cashed.

Edmonton built a 4-1 lead with 6:49 left in the 2nd period in the opener. A goal by C Elias Lindholm late in the period sliced the lead to 4-2.

Midway through the 3rd period, the Vancouver offense caught fire. C J.T. Miller, D Nikita Zadorov and RW Conor Garland each scored within a 5-minute span erasing the deficit to take a 5-4 lead with 5:34 to go. Garland’s go-ahead goal came 39 seconds after Zadorov’s tying tally and all of the wind had been sucked out of Edmonton’s sails.

Canucks G Arturs Silovs only had to make 14 saves as the Oilers finished with 18 shots. Edmonton G Stuart Skinner stopped 19 of Vancouver 24 shots.

Including Wednesday’s victory, Vancouver is 5-0 vs. Edmonton this season, outscoring the Oilers 26-11. The Over is 3-1-1 in those games, including a perfect 3-0 in the games played in Vancouver — 2 regular-season meetings and Game 1.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Oilers -1.5 (+185) | Canucks +1.5 (-225)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Oilers at Canucks projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (4-2-0, 3.01 GAA, .893 SV%, 1 SO in 2024 playoffs) vs. Arturs Silovs (3-1-0, 2.28 GAA, .908 SV%, 1 SO in 2024 playoffs)

Skinner was blitzed in the 3rd period, allowing 3 goals, and he coughed up 4 straight to the Canucks. It appeared he and his Oilers teammates were on their way to a win, but the Canucks had other ideas. This will be a tough one to bounce back from.

Despite falling behind 4-1, Silovs righted the ship in the opener. He’s 3-1 in these playoffs and has been a decent fill-in for All-Star G Thatcher Demko, who is sidelined with a knee injury. Demko could be back in net by Game 4 or 5 as he is trending in the right direction.

Oilers at Canucks picks and predictions

Prediction

Canucks 5, Oilers 3

Moneyline

The CANUCKS (+115) are a strong play in Game 2 as short underdogs at home. This Vancouver offense proved it has no quit, and it can be a quick strike unit when necessary.

The Oilers (-135) have to be shellshocked after blowing a 3-goal lead in the opener. Edmonton looked like it might finally be able to get over the hump against Vancouver after losing all 4 regular-season meetings, but it laid an egg in the 3rd period. That’s going to be tough to forget about.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Canucks +1.5 (-225) will cost more than 2 times the potential return. That’s too expensive even if you looking for insurance with the +1.5 goals and don’t feel comfortable backing Vancouver straight up.

AVOID and focus on the moneyline instead.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+100) is worth a look.

The Over has cashed in all 3 meetings this season in Vancouver, and Skinner has allowed 9 goals in his past 2 starts.

The Over looks like a solid option, and at plus-money, it’s a nice value, too.

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers head West to face the Vancouver Canucks in Game 1 of their best-of-7 Western Conference, 2nd-round series at Rogers Arena Wednesday. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Canucks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Oilers have had a week off after dethroning the LA Kings in 5 games. C Connor McDavid had 1 goal and 11 assists in the series. LW Zach Hyman led the offense with 7 goals and an assist, while C Leon Draisaitl finished with 5 goals and 5 assists.

The Canucks might have been one of the more impressive teams in the 1st round. They lost their goalie and were down 3-1 in the 3rd period of Game 4, but they found a way to win that game and the series in 6 against the Nashville Predators. They won all 4 meetings against the Oilers this season, but 3 of them took place before Edmonton fired coach Jay Woodcroft and turned its season around. Another problem: Starting G Thatcher Demko (knee) is still out.

Oilers at Canucks projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (36-16-5, 2.62 GAA, .905 SV%, 2 SO) vs Arturs Silovs (3-0-1, 2.47 GAA, .881 SV%)

Skinner went 4-1 with a 2.59 GAA and .910 SV% in the Kings series. He allowed 13 goals in 5 games, stopping 132 of 145 fired his way. He went 0-3 in 3 starts (4 games) against Vancouver this season, with a 4.60 GAA and .830 SV%.

Silovs was unreal in 3 games during Round 1, allowing just 5 goals on 80 shots for a 1.70 GAA and .938 SV%. Facing the Oilers is going to be a monstrous test, though, but he has looked the part.

Oilers at Canucks picks and predictions

Prediction

Canucks 4, Oilers 3

Moneyline

I’m riding with the underdog home side here because the Oilers haven’t played in 7 days while the Canucks have had just 5 days between games. Rust builds up in the course of a week off.

Take CANUCKS (+115).

Puck line/Against the spread

Silovs had 28, 22 and 30 saves in his 3 playoff starts. I expect a barrage from Edmonton that should eclipse those numbers.

Take ARTURS SILOVS OVER 26.5 SAVES (-115).

Over/Under

The Canucks went 2-4 O/U in their opening series, and Edmonton went 4-1 O/U. The 4 meetings between these clubs went 2-1-1 O/U. Because this is an even 6, I’ll take the OVER 6 (-120). If it swells to 6.5, avoid.

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks open their 2023-24 National Hockey League regular seasons Wednesday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Canucks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Oilers have dominated this series, winning 6 of the past 7 games, including a 4-2 win in their most recent visit to Vancouver on Jan. 21. Edmonton has won its past 3 trips to British Columbia, outscoring Vancouver 9-5 but with 2 of the games decided by a single goal.

The Canucks had a rough preseason as they struggled to light the lamp. Vancouver managed 1 goal or was shut out in 4 of its 6 tune-up games, including a 2-1 overtime loss in Edmonton. However, it did top Edmonton 5-2 on Sept. 30 at Rogers Arena to earn one of its 2 preseason victories.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Oilers at Canucks projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (29-14-5, 2.75 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO – 2022-23) vs. Thatcher Demko (14-14-4, 3.16 GAA, .901 SV% , 1 SO)

Skinner was very steady last season, posting very similar numbers at home and on the road. He won 29 games in the regular season and was 1-1-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .897 SV% in 2 starts against the Canucks.

Demko was much better at home in 2022-23 with a 2.77 GAA as opposed to a 3.65 GAA on the road, although he was .500 both at home and away. He made just one start against the Oilers last season, and it didn’t go well, allowing 4 goals on just 24 shots in a 5-3 loss in Edmonton on Oct. 12, 2022.

Oilers at Canucks picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 4, Canucks 2

Moneyline

The OILERS (-160) are a little on the pricey side, but they’re the play based on previous success in the series. Demko is coming off the worst season of his career, while Skinner has been fairly even whether he is at home or on the road. And, don’t forget Edmonton is the team with the dynamic duo of C Connor McDavid and C Leon Draisaitl, too.

Puck line/Against the spread

The OILERS -1.5 (+140) are worth a look on the puck line, as Edmonton cashed on the puck line in 2 of the past 3 meetings with Vancouver as a favorite. Until the Canucks show that they’re a little better offensively, keep fading Vancouver when facing Edmonton.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (+110) is worth a look at plus money, especially based on the head-to-head total trends. The Under has cashed at a 6-1-1 clip in the past 8 meetings in this series.

An Under play is dangerous when the Oilers are involved as they can score goals quickly, and in bunches. But 6.5 is a big number, too, and the goaltenders tend to be a little ahead of the offenses early on.

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks odds, with NHL betting picks and prediction

The Edmonton Oilers (12-8-0) open a two-game set on the road against the Vancouver Canucks (8-12-2) Tuesday for a 10 p.m. ET puck drop at Rogers Arena. Below we analyze the Oilers-Canucks odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Oilers at Canucks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:30 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Oilers -130 (bet $130 to win $100) | Canucks +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Oilers -1.5 (+195) | Canucks +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Oilers at Canucks: Projected starting goalies

Mike Smith (4-0-0, 1.83 GAA, .940 SV%, 1 SO) at Thatcher Demko (4-7-1, 3.31 GAA, .901 SV%)

Smith is confirmed for the Edmonton crease, and that has been a good thing lately. He has won each of his four starts this season, allowing two or fewer goals in each outing. Smith allowed just one goal on 21 shots in a victory at Calgary on Friday night, and he has been on fire since returning from a bout with COVID-19.

Demko won his final three starts of January, but he has been a train wreck since flipping the calendar to February. He is 0-4-1 with a 3.42 GAA and .883 SV% in five starts and six appearances since Jan. 30. He has allowed three or more goals in four of his six outings in February, too.

Oilers at Canucks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oilers 5, Canucks 2

Money line (ML)

The OILERS (-130) have won four straight on the road, and seven of the past eight as a favorite. Smith is due for a poor outing at some point, but he is showing no weaknesses right now. Meanwhile, Demko is leaking oil, pun totally intended, and it’s hard to see him outplaying Smith.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The OILERS -1.5 (+195) are worth playing on the road with a chance to double up. Smith is rolling along, and it’s easy to see Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and company having a field day against the turnstile Demko.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (-115) is risky business based upon Smith’s recent hot run, but Demko has been more than giving. Still, I am not a big fan of 6.5-point numbers, so go lightly on this one. While the Over is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings in this series, the Under is actually 7-1-3 in the past 11 meetings in Vancouver.
