Joe Flacco on competition at the QB position; Mentoring Jalen Hurts

Joe Flacco was signed to be Jalen Hurts backup, but the former Ravens star said he’s going to compete for the starting quarterback job

Joe Flacco was signed by the Eagles to provide a veteran presence in the quarterback room, but the former Super Bowl MVP has his own ideas when it comes to possibly being named the starter.

Flacco echoed the sentiments of head coach Nick Sirianni when he mentioned “competition” and how it helps a team develop from within.

Asked if he’ll play the veteran, mentor role to Jalen Hurts, Flacco made it clear that guys in the quarterback room “always help each other”, and he’ll do “his part” to help the team win, but he only knows how to be a “competitor”.

Flacco said he was given no assurances about having the chance to compete for the job, and his tone was more about a mindset entering training camp more than anything.

Eagles HC Nick Sirianni on a potential QB competition: ‘every position is open’

Nick Sirianni addressed the Philadelphia media on Friday and said all the right things about leadership, accountability, and growing with a great organization.

Sirianni was eventually bombarded with questions about the Eagles quarterback situation, Carson Wentz’s future, and a quarterback competition.

Sirianni was vague when asked about a potential quarterback competition, but he made it clear several times that the entire team will be evaluated and “every position is open”.

Sirianni declined to discuss the Eagles plan for Carson Wentz but stated that naming a starter for 2021 hasn’t crossed his mind yet.
