The Philadelphia Eagles value the quarterback position and they are one of the few teams in the league who place great value on having a quality backup in place.
With Nick Foles off to the Jaguars and Nate Sudfeld dealing with an injury, the Eagles turned to veteran quarterback Josh McCown last season and he wasn’t needed until the Wild Card round.
Carson Wentz was unable to finish the game after a hit from Jadeveon Clowney and McCown did his best to keep the Eagles competitive in a 17-9 loss at home.
With Sudfeld back and Jalen Hurts in the fold, the Eagles backup quarterback situation landed just outside the top-10, at No. 12 according to a ranking from USA Today.
12. Philadelphia Eagles: Nate Sudfeld, entering his fourth season in Philly, is well regarded and probably the team’s best option at this point to execute game plans designed for Carson Wentz. Second-rounder Jalen Hurts has exciting potential, but he’ll likely need time to prove he’s ready for the QB2 role.
Sudfeld re-signed with the Eagles on a one-year deal, while Hurts was selected in the second round at No. 53 overall in the 2020 draft.
Hurts along with Sudfeld, are expected to ensure that the Eagles offense doesn’t miss a step if Wentz somehow has to miss more action because of injury.
