“I think I’m so used to my body responding how I want it to respond, I had high expectations for this process and thought that I could, you know, knock it out of the park,” Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith said in the E60 Project 11 documentary. “I think I’ve had to slow that, a little bit.”

You’d be hard-pressed to find an athlete in the NFL who hasn’t dealt with injuries before, tasked with the difficult process of rehabbing and trying to come back stronger. This is not that, for Alex Smith.

ESPN has been teasing an upcoming E60 presentation that is set to air on Friday night, documenting Smith and his journey through the recovery of a horrific leg injury that has put his football career, and at times his life, into jeopardy. ESPN sent Redskins Wire a preview clip of the documentary, which can be seen above.

The program debuts on Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

“No NFL player has ever been through what Alex Smith has,” said Andy Tennant, E60 executive producer. “He’s normally a very private person but he wanted to document his road to recovery as well and as detailed as possible, with the hope that future players could use it as a road map. The access that he and his family granted to E60 is incredible and viewers will see a story of strength, dedication, and perseverance.”

Get your popcorn ready for Friday night.

ESPN teases ‘Project 11’ documentary on Alex Smith’s recovery from gruesome injury

We’ve all heard stories of Alex Smith’s recovery from a gruesome leg injury that happened in 2018 and ESPN will air a documentary on it soon.

It was little more than a year ago that Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith went down on a fateful Sunday in November, watching as his career path changed course. His team was currently in the lead of the NFC East with a clear path to the 2018 playoffs, should nothing drastic change.

Then the hit happened, and his life changed forever.

Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury that would eventually threaten his football career, and the continued existence of his lower extremity. After breaking both the tibia and fibula bones in his right leg, Smith has been confined to the sideline, working as hard as he can to get back to the NFL and continue his football career.

There is not much public optimism that it can happen, but ESPN has announced an E60 documentary that details the path he has gone through over the past year and change.

The documentary will air on May 1st, on ESPN, and we will all be able to tune in and see the type of hard work and dedication that Smith has given to his recovery, hoping to reach the level of health that will allow him to step back on the football field.

After watching him go down in 2018, it will be incredibly moving to watch him build himself back up in front of our eyes.

ESPN teases E:60 piece on Alex Smith’s recovery from gruesome leg injury

ESPN has been following Smith for the past year while he works to recover from the gruesome leg injury that threatened his life and career.

As Washington Redskins quarterback starts to eye what once seemed like an unlikely return to the NFL, which could potentially happen in time for the 2020 season to begin, more stories about his recovery are starting to come to the surface.

On Saturday morning, ESPN teased a documentary piece they did on Smith’s recovery, working with him through the process and delving into the pain and work that he went through. There were also a number of scary moments, where Smith said at times he was ‘lucky to be alive’ and fighting to decide whether his leg should be amputated or not.

Coming in April, ESPN will release an E:60 piece on Smith’s recovery, where they have been working for over a year to gather all of the material necessary to accurately tell his story. Smith’s story is far from over, as he has a chance to compete with quarterback Dwayne Haskins for the starting job in Washington this coming year, should his recovery continue down the right track.
