Oregon baseball’s Gabe Matthews once again named player of the week

Gabe Matthews is continuing his hot streak this season, being named player of the week yet again after a dominant weekend performance.

The hot streak continues for Oregon Baseball’s star Gabe Matthews.

Just a week after being named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, Matthews is adding another trophy to his case, with the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award naming him their player of the week as well, according to GoDucks.com.

Once again this week, Matthews crossed the .600 mark at the plate, going 10-for-15 with eight runs scored. In all four games that Oregon played, three of which were victories, Matthews had multiple hits, with two doubles and a triple.

In the Ducks’ game against USC on Friday, Matthews became Oregon’s all-time hits leader, passing J.J. Altobelli with his 212th career base hit.

With Matthews leading the way, Oregon’s 13th-ranked team in the nation continues to forge ahead, sitting near the top of the Pac-12 standings and stacking up wins.

They are now getting set to host a series against the UCLA Bruins at PK Park in Eugene over the weekend, with the first game starting at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Ducks baseball jumps up to No. 13 in nation after series win over USC

The Ducks moved up a spot to No. 13 in the nation after back-to-back wins vs. the Trojans over the weekend.

The Oregon Ducks’ baseball team keeps rolling this spring, with another move up in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll. They are now sitting at No. 13 in the nation after their most recent series win over the USC Trojans.

Already off to a hot start this spring, Oregon moved up from No. 14 in the polls thanks to a win over the Portland Pilots last week, followed by back-to-back wins over the Trojans on the weekend. The Ducks have now won 11 of their last 13 games, and sit at 22-8 overall.

Oregon used a thrilling 8th inning in their final game against the Trojans on Sunday, scoring four runs to come from behind and edge out USC. Senior Gabe Matthews and sophomore Sam Novitske combined for six hits and five RBI in the game, including driving in three runs in the decisive eighth inning, giving the Ducks a 7-5 victory.

Oregon lost the first game of the series on Friday but rallied for a 13-4 blowout on Saturday to sure things up before the rubber match.

Up next, Oregon will host a three-game series against the UCLA Bruins at PK Park in Eugene.
