After earning his fifth star a few months back, Powell continues to elevate his game and has recently cracked the top 10 in the 247Sports rankings. This past week, Powell played well at the Peach Jam in North Augusta playing for Team CP3. And he’s earning some praise for his performance.

After averaging 16.6 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, while shooting 55.6 percent from the field, Powell was named to the Peach Jam All-Second Team:

The North Carolina product has really improved over the past year going back to his junior year of high school and now continuing it into the AAU cycle.

With Powell playing this well and moving up the recruiting rankings, UNC’s No. 1 class continues to get look good. Let’s hope he can continue to climb the rankings and improve his game.

UNC commit posts double double in Peach Jam win

A UNC basketball commit has posted a double-double at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam on Thursday.

It’s been an impressive start to the Peach Jam for North Carolina commit Drake Powell. The recruit has been on an impressive streak as of late, earning a fifth star this year after committing to UNC back in 2023.

Powell has also climbed into the top 10 in the 247Sports recruiting rankings and is part of a 2024 class that is No. 1 in the cycle for the Tar Heels. Now, at the Peach Jam in South Carolina, Powell is averaging 18 points per game through the first four games and has looked impressive.

That continued on Thursday night as he had a big game for Team CP3, scoring 18 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in the win:

Powell and his teammate, Duke commit Isaiah Evans, led the way for Team CP3 who is off to a 3-1 start.

If Powell keeps this play up, he could move even higher in the rankings before they are completed. And that’s great news for the Tar Heels as they await his arrival on campus.

Drake Powell off to hot start at Peach Jam

UNC basketball commit Drake Powell is off to a hot start at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam.

The rise of North Carolina commit Drake Powell continues.

The five-star recruit out of North Carolina has climbed the recruiting rankings since his commitment to the Tar Heels in 2022. He earned a fifth star and climbed into the top 10 on the 247Sports recruiting rankings and if he continues this hot play, he could climb even higher.

This week Powell is playing at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in South Carolina. helping Team CP3 in the tournament. And so far, Powell is off to a hot start.

Through three games Powell is averaging just over 18 points per game and added another solid game on Wednesday. Despite losing to Team Final, Powell scored 20 points, dished out 8 assists, and grabbed 6 rebounds in front of a national audience on NBATV.

UNC basketball commit among standouts at NBPA Top 100 Camp

UNC basketball commit Drake Powell earns praise at the NBPA Top 100 camp.

North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class is the best in the country with three commitments so far. The class has two five-star recruits and a four-star recruit, and that’s after Elliot Cadeau reclassified.

But a big reason the Tar Heels have maintained the No. 1 ranking is forward Drake Powell.

The in-state recruit committed to UNC in 2022 and has since elevated his game by earning an extra star and climbing into the top 15 in recruiting rankings. Powell’s play continues to be praised this summer.

Powell is among the recruits participating in the NBPA Top 100 Camp and on Day 2, he was named a standout. Here is what Travis Branham of 247Sports wrote on Powell after the second day:

Drake Powell has been one of the biggest stock-risers in the country over the last 18 months and he is only continuing on his trajectory. He has gone from a top-75 ranked prospect up inside the top 10, and I have said it before and will say it again, he probably isn’t done rising in the rankings just yet.

On Thursday morning, Powell channeled his aggressive side and started putting his foot on the gas on the offensive end, being much more assertive. He showcased his ability to handle, create, pass and most notably shot-make.

Where UNC basketball recruits rank in updated On3 rankings

Here are were the 2024 UNC basketball commits rank in the updated On3 Top 150 rankings that are now updated.

As we hit the summer months, the recruiting evaluation periods will continue on in college basketball. The AAU cycle still has some premier events left this summer as recruits will have the chance to showcase their skills.

But it’s also the time for a recruiting ranking update.

On3 has put out their updated rankings for the 2024 class, putting together the Top 150. That list included all three UNC commits in the 2024 class with Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, and James Brown being ranked. With Elliot Cadeau heading to 2023, the Tar Heels now have a three-man class. But even so, the class is a strong one for Hubert Davis.

Since expanding the rankings from 50 to 150, On3’s recruiting experts have analyzed and scouted players following their junior seasons including events like USA Basketball, Nike EYBL, Adidas 3SSB, and Under Armour Next cycle.

With that, they have put together the Top 150 list which includes some newcomers and familiar faces.

Here is where UNC players rank in the updated On3 Top 150 for the 2024 class.

UNC commit Drake Powell set to climb recruiting rankings

UNC basketball commit Drake Powell is set to climb the recruiting rankings once again.

The rise of North Carolina 2024 commit Drake Powell continues.

After committing to the Tar Heels in 2022, Powell has elevated his game and the result has been a move up in the recruiting rankings as well as earning a fifth star from 247Sports.

With 247Sports set to release updated recruiting rankings for the 2024 class, writer Adam Finkelstein noted Powell would be a riser in the new update when it’s released. And that’s great news for UNC fans:

Drake Powell made an early commitment to his hometown school, North Carolina, in just September of his junior year after visiting them officially.

At the time, he was ranked No. 58 in the national class of 2024. He made a notable jump during the high school season, rising all the way up to No. 19, and may not be done yet.

While Powell’s scoring has been inconsistent at times this spring (he’s averaging 12.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 44% shooting from the floor, 18% from three, and 79% from the free-throw line), there’s so much to like about what he brings to the table. He’s athletic and competitive, a two-way player, and still improving at a rapid rate. The shooting obviously needs to keep coming, but there’s nothing glaring mechanically that should keep it from doing so. Those other markers typically translate long-term and so there is a lot of optimism that his best basketball is still, very much, in front of him.

Powell continues to earn praise for his play, and with UNC having a big 2024 class, he makes it even better.

The 6-foot-5, 170-pound forward is ranked No. 19 nationally, the No. 7 small forward and No. 3 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

How far will he rise? Can he crack the top 15?

UNC basketball commit named a standout at EYBL event

UNC basketball commit Drake Powell earned some honors at the Nike EYBL event over the weekend.

The AAU circuit got off to a big start this weekend with three events in three different cities across the country. And the North Carolina Tar Heels were out on the recruiting trail scouting commits and potential recruiting targets the whole weekend.

As Hubert Davis and assistant coaches were out watching games, one UNC commit had a standout weekend.

Five-star forward Drake Powell continues to raise his stock and get better as a player since he committed to North Carolina. On Sunday, Powell was named the Most Outstanding Player for the day by 247Sports’ Travis Branham who was at the event:

The most outstanding play on Sunday was five-star North Carolina commit Drake Powell. The 6-foot-6 wing earned his status on 247Sports in March following some standout performances at the John Wall Holiday Invitational and he backed that status here at the Nike EYBL.

He had a big matchup against another high level forward in Carter Bryant (who will announce his college decision on Wednesday live on 247Sports) and rose to the occasion.

Powell has been a prospect on the rise for several months now.

When he committed to North Carolina, he was a four-star recruit but since then, he’s earned a fifth star. He’s developed into a really good player and if he continues to play this well, his ranking will continue to go up which is great news for the Tar Heels.

2024 UNC commit wants to impact winning more than anything else

2024 UNC basketball commit Drake Powell has been an individual standout this weekend but wants to ‘impact winning’ more than anything else.

One of the best performers to come out of the first live period has been UNC basketball commit [autotag]Drake Powell[/autotag].

The 6-foot-6 wing has been tremendous this weekend, averaging 19 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and shooting 50 percent from the floor. Team CP3 is 3-0 on the weekend.

While his stats are impressive, Powell isn’t worried about the individual numbers. The only thing he’s worried about is winning.

Following his Saturday morning win, Powell told Brendan Marks of The Athletic that in college he wants to impact winning more than anything else.

Powell has always been that way, which showed throughout his junior season campaign. He helped lead Northwood (North Carolina) to a runner-up appearance in the state tournament. He averaged 18.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Powell is part of a four-man recruiting class for the Tar Heels in 2024, which holds the top spot in the team rankings.

Powell was the first commitment of the 2024 cycle for Hubert Davis and North Carolina. Ranked in the mid-70s at the time, Powell has risen to the No. 19 overall player in the class and a five-star prospect.

2024 UNC commit a standout over the weekend

Newly appointed five-star wing Drake Powell was a standout over the weekend, continuing his terrific year on the court.

The UNC basketball program has the top 2024 class in the country and the player who has been committed the longest continues to stand out.

Five-star wing [autotag]Drake Powell[/autotag] had a terrific junior campaign averaging 18.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He led Northwood (NC) to a runner-up appearance in the state tournament.

Now, he’s continuing that good play as the AAU season begins.

Over the weekend, Powell was named a standout at the Made Hoops event in North Carolina.

“Drake Powell is a high-level connector, a player who simply makes things around him run smoothly,” On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw said. “What you take away with the 6-foot-6 wing is the defense. He is an excellent defender both on and off the ball. He has long arms, toughness, and he moves/anticipates very well.

“You like the mid-range jumper with Powell. He gets into his shot well off the bounce, especially around the elbows. He is also a sneaky athlete, getting above the rim in transition. You want to see him shoot more consistently from three, and with more strength, he will finish better at the rim in traffic. Powell is a nice secondary ball handler, getting the ball to its spots and taking care of possessions. A player that elevates the play of those around him.”

Because of Powell’s great play over the last few months, he recently jumped all the way up to a five-star prospect.

Currently, Powell is ranked the No. 17 overall prospect in the 247Sports class of 2024 rankings. He is the third five-star prospect committed to North Carolina in the class.

UNC commit Drake Powell earns more praise over weekend

UNC basketball 2024 commit Drake Powell earned more praise for his play this weekend after scoring 20 points on Saturday.

The 2024 recruiting class for the UNC basketball program is a very important one. It’s Hubert Davis’ best class so far, ranking No. 1 early on in the cycle.

With four commitments and three by five-star recruits, Davis and his staff will welcome the class on campus in just a few years, hoping it will help elevate the program back to where it needs to be. Among the recruits in the 2024 class is forward Drake Powell.

The Pittsboro product has been one of the highest risers in the recruiting rankings, making big strides since he committed to North Carolina back in 2022. And his hot play continued into the weekend.

While playing in the Phenom Rise Showcase, Powell scored 20 points in Team CP3’s win over Big Shots Elite. And he earned some praise after the game as well:

Powell has climbed to five-star status on 247Sports, ranking as the No. 19 overall player in the updated rankings. He’s climbed from the 50’s to inside the top 20 and the way he’s playing, he can climb even higher.

This is certainly great news for North Carolina and that 2024 class.
