Commanders’ rookie Luke McCaffrey receiving handoffs at practice

The Commanders are hopeful that McCaffrey can be a versatile weapon on offense.

I guess no one should be surprised that the Washington Commanders want to get everything out of their ultra-athletic rookie given his namesake. During last weeks practices, rookie wide receiver Luke McCaffrey was spotted taking some hypothetical snaps at running back.

While this is a far cry from guaranteeing McCaffrey is going to spend a ton of time behind the line of scrimmage, it does signal that this Washington coaching staff wants to get the most out of and test the limits of one of their most versatile athletes. McCaffrey has reportedly been quite impressive out wide so far and is making quite the connection with fellow rookie Jayden Daniels, so it’s likely McCaffrey will see plenty of action in the passing game early on in the season.

That being said, it wouldn’t be the strangest thing to see Luke McCaffrey sneak in some snaps at running back given the track record that his brother, Christian McCaffrey has created.

Warriors add Akron’s Enrique Freeman in second round of latest BR mock draft

The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 18.6 points and 12.9 rebounds per game last season for the Akron Zips.

As the NBA Finals continue and the draft approaches, more mock drafts are beginning to be released with different predictions for the Golden State Warriors’ pick in the second round of the draft.

In the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman, the Warriors landed an intriguing and productive prospect out of Akron in the second round. With the No. 52 overall selection in the 2024 draft, Wasserman penciled Akron’s Enrique Freeman to the Warriors. According to Wasserman, Freeman was one of the most productive players during the scrimmage period at the NBA combine.

Via Bleacher Report:

The biggest riser of the predraft process so far, Enrique Freeman turned his Portsmouth Invitational play into a G League Elite Camp invite, where he earned a call-up to the NBA combine.

He wound up being one of the most productive players during scrimmages against projected second-round picks, impressing with his shooting range, post skill, finishing activity and rebounding.

Scouts believe he got himself drafted in Chicago. A second-round team will be willing to bet on his versatility, production at Akron and the story of a former walk-on.

Read Wasserman’s full mock draft here.

Freeman played five seasons at Akron, earning MAC Player of the Year last season with 18.6 points on 58.4% shooting from the field to go along with 12.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game as a senior. During the 2021-22 season as a sophomore, Freeman was also named MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Freeman helped lead Akron to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2024. However, Akron was eliminated in the first round by the Creighton Blue Jays. Freeman tallied 21 points against Creighton in the round of 64.

The NBA draft is scheduled to begin with round one on June 25 in Brooklyn, New York. The second round will be the next day on June 26.

Chargers OT Joe Alt officially signs rookie contract

The Chargers’ top draft pick has put pen to paper.

The Chargers continue to sign their 2024 rookie class.

Offensive tackle Joe Alt agreed to a four-year deal with a fifth-year option on Monday prior to the team’s minicamp. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the contract is worth $33.2 million in its first four years with a signing bonus of $20.9 million.

Alt’s contract as the fifth overall pick of the draft is largely predetermined in value, outside of some pay structure negotiables. His $20.9 million signing bonus is in line with what Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon got as 2023’s No. 5 overall selection.

Eight of the Chargers’ nine draft selections have now agreed to their rookie deals. Second-round wide receiver Ladd McConkey has yet to agree to terms. However, McConkey remaining unsigned to this point is par for the course with second-rounders recently. Tuli Tuipulotu was similarly the last Chargers’ rookie to sign of the 2023 draft class in late June.

Attention now turns to minicamp and training camp, where Alt will look to assert himself as the Chargers’ starting right tackle. With a conversion to a position he has not yet played, LA’s new rookie will look to set the tone early. Alt worked with Alex Boone in the predraft process to cross-train at both tackle spots for whichever team would end up drafting him.

NBA draft: The youngest player selected by each team

Take a look at the youngest players ever to be drafted into the NBA by each of the 30 franchises.

Each year during the June NBA Draft, new players enter the league’s ranks. Decades ago, many were college seniors, coming into the pros in their early 20s after graduation. More recently, though, that trend changed and often new entrants are only in their late teens.

Here below, we wanted to take a look at the youngest players ever to be drafted into the NBA by each of the 30 franchises.

2016 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

Some of the players who cracked this Top 30 aren’t even in the NBA at the moment and some that are could very well be playing overseas within a year or two.

Below, check out our 2016 NBA re-draft, the way it should have been in hindsight.
