NFL scouting combine fantasy team: Building a winner based on the top performances

Who are the 22 suiting up on fantasy game day?

Long before the dream is a reality, spandex-clad athletes at the NFL scouting combine jump, juke, run, press, and Wonderlic test their way into hopeful employer’s hearts.

Some have been amazing at this, while others have been subpar.

Although the combine performances rarely turn into anything other than an interesting trivia question, that doesn’t mean that some of the top achievers wouldn’t make for a scary opponent (at least, on paper), sort of an NFL Scouting Combine Fantasy Team.

Looking back at some of the best of the best throughout history, going only by the scouting combine performances, these would arguably be the 22 best options to suit up on Fantasy game day.

QB: Tim Tebow

Few QBs have really shined in the scouting combine as much as Tim Tebow did back in 2010. His mechanics were sound, and his answers were sounder. Texas A&M’s Reggie McNeal still holds the fastest 40 time, so he gets the nod as the backup. (What could possibly go wrong?!)

Joe Burrow spoils potential draft-day chaos, says he’ll play for the Bengals

Good news for the Bengals, bad news for NFL fans.

Show’s over. Everybody go home.

There were rumblings LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrowthe guy with the minuscule hands that he joked about — might not want to play for the Cincinnati Bengals, the NFL team that owns the top pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

That set up for some high draft drama. Who would trade for Burrow, a la the Eli Manning and Philip Rivers swap of 2004? What would the haul be for a talent like Burrow? How many jokes could we make about the woeful Bengals?

Alas, Burrow put that all away with one statement at the 2020 scouting combine.

I love the double negative there, mostly because when the tweet came up, my heart jumped out of my chest for a second before I figured out that he meant he would play anywhere.

The good news is Burrow is going to accept his fate and play anywhere. The bad news is we were robbed of the drama and fun that would have come with him forcing his way to another team.
