Packers downgrade Elgton Jenkins and Dominique Dafney to out vs. 49ers

The Packers will be without Elgton Jenkins and Dominique Dafney on Sunday night against the 49ers.

The Green Bay Packers downgraded left tackle Elgton Jenkins and tight end Dominique Dafney to out for Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Jenkins was originally listed as doubtful with an ankle injury, while Dafney was questionable with a hip injury.

Jenkins, the starter at left tackle the last two weeks, won’t travel with the team, per the Packers.

It’s unclear if the Packers will use Billy Turner, Dennis Kelly or Yosh Nijman at left tackle in place of Jenkins. Turner and Kelly have experience at left tackle, and Nijman played the majority of the snaps at left tackle in the preseason. At tight end, Josiah Deguara will return from a concussion and should take most of Dafney’s snaps.

The Packers only listed Jenkins and Dafney on the team’s final injury report.

Packers TE Dominique Dafney passes physical, comes off PUP list

The Packers returned TE Dominique Dafney from the PUP list on Monday.

The Green Bay Packers returned one of their versatile tight ends from injury.

Second-year tight end Dominique Dafney passed his physical and came off the PUP list in time to practice on Monday.

Dafney, who signed to the Packers’ practice squad in October last season, ended up playing in five games as a first-year player. He caught two passes for 26 yards and a touchdown and made two tackles on special teams.

The Packers originally placed Dafney on the PUP list with a knee injury on July 28.

A match as a move tight end or H-back for Matt LaFleur’s offense, Dafney still has a good chance of making the initial 53-man roster, especially with Jace Sternberger suspended for the first two games of 2021.

The Packers have returned Dafney and tight end Josiah Deguara from injury over the last week. The team also signed Daniel Crawford, another H-back option.

Packers add rookie TE Dominique Dafney to practice squad

The Packers added former Colts TE Dominique Dafney to the team’s 16-player practice squad.

The Green Bay Packers added a rookie tight end to the practice squad.

The team announced the signing of tight end Dominique Dafney, a rookie from Indiana State who spent time in training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.

Dafney (6-2, 243) was an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection at fullback as a senior in 2019. The Iowa native caught 15 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 436 yards and six more scores.

Prior to Indiana State, Dafney spent two years at Iowa, playing mostly on special teams.

The Packers likely see Dafney as a versatile H-back type, a preference of coach and playcaller Matt LaFleur.

Dafney certainly has the size and athleticism. He posted a 4.61-second 40-yard dash, 35″ vertical, 10-7 broad jump and a 6.91-second three-cone drill at his pro day.

Dafney will wear No. 49 with the Packers.

Colts sign TE Dominique Dafney

Colts add another TE.

The Indianapolis Colts signed tight end Dominique Dafney and waived running back Bruce Anderson, the team announced Wednesday.

With some injuries and thin depth at the tight end position, the Colts have been forced to add to the position for training camp. They also signed another tight end this week in Andrew Vollert.

Per the release from the team:

Dafney, 6-3, 235 pounds, played collegiately at Indiana State (2019), Iowa (2017-18) and Iowa Western Community College (2016). In 2019, he was a Second Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference choice at fullback and garnered MVFC All-Newcomer recognition after registering 635 all-purpose yards (439 rushing, 196 receiving) and a team-high seven total touchdowns for the Sycamores. In two seasons with the Hawkeyes, Dafney appeared in 23 games and compiled one reception for 19 yards, one punt return for 26 yards, eight tackles (four solo) and one blocked kick. Prior to Iowa, he spent time at Iowa Western Community College.

Dafney is most likely a camp body filling a role until Jack Doyle (neck) returns from his current injury. The Colts have just over a week until roster must be cut down to 53 players.
