Jesus Aguilar swiped a mysterious object out of Dom Smith’s back pocket at first base

Jesus Aguilar really pickpocketed Dom Smith.

Yes, you read that correctly. This is a thing that happened. No idea why it happened, but it definitely looks like it happened.

Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar looked like he slyly swiped something out of Dom Smith’s back pocket on Thursday when the Marlins were matched up with the Mets.

It looked like he took some sort of card from out of Smith’s back pocket. We have no idea what is on the card or what it’s even there for. All we know is that it appears that, uh, well, it’s Aguilar’s now.

This is absolutely hilarious. Look at how smoothly he comes by and pulls the card out.

Smith doesn’t even notice! Aguilar could be the next Bond or something with smooth moves like that.

People had so many jokes including puns about…getting caught stealing.

Hopefully, it’s not anything important like a scouting report or anything. Though, I’m very uncertain of why anyone would carry a scouting report around on the field, anyway.

Hopefully, someone asks Aguilar about the incident and we get some sort of clarity.

Mets’ Dominic Smith kneels during anthem: ‘The most difficult part is to see that people still don’t care’

“Black men in America, it’s not easy.”

The NBA boycott on Wednesday was joined by other athletes, leagues and teams.

And even for some of the teams that did play their games on Wednesday, the impact of that powerful decision and statement was felt.

The New York Mets were one of the teams that played, and before the eventual 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins, the Mets’ Dominic Smith chose for the first time to kneel during the national anthem.

After the game, he spoke to reporters and tearfully spoke about his decision, being Black in America, and what was going through his head on an extremely emotional day:

“I think the most difficult part is to see people still don’t care. For this to just continuously happen, it just shows the hate in people’s heart … and that just sucks, you know? Black men in America, it’s not easy, so like I said, I wasn’t there today, but I’ll bounce back, I’ll be fine.”

Smith added he didn’t care if his teammates joined him in kneeling because “it’s not for them.” (WARNING: Some NSFW language ahead.)

Mets’ Dominic Smith pokes fun at former 2017 Astros player J.D. Davis over cheating scandal

Awesome.

ESPN continued to make an excellent case on Wednesday to mic up baseball players all the time with its Grapefruit League broadcast of the Mets and Cardinals.

This time, we got to hear exactly how Mets players are treating their teammate and former 2017 Houston Astros player J.D. Davis.

It was so good.

ESPN’s broadcast had the Mets’ Dominic Smith, Jeff McNeil and Davis all mic’d up for the game with earpieces — similarly to the delightful broadcast with Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. At one point in the fourth inning, Davis was asked about using “cheat sheets” for shifts as an infielder who will play some outfield.

It set Smith up for an excellent burn.

Smith said, jokingly:

“J.D. has a ton of cheat sheets. You know what I’m sayin …”

Davis was among the players who benefited from the cheating scandal en route to a 2017 World Series title — though data shows that he sparingly used the trash can-aided tactics compared to other Astros players like George Springer and Alex Bregman.

And I’m sure Davis is used to those lighthearted jabs by now.

Smith said earlier of Davis’ relationship with his Mets teammates in an interview with WFAN:

“It was all jokes from the very beginning because he was very honest when he came over here with us. We kind of had an idea of some of the things they were doing. We just made a light joke of it. Obviously it sucks for the game. It sucks for the people affected by it. It’s not good for the game at all, but it is what it is. It’s a new season here, and he’s a part of us. We welcome him with open arms, him and Jake (Marisnick, who also played for the Astros). We love those guys, and we hope they can help us win a World Series.”

So it was all in good fun.
