NFL teams are constantly making moves to improve their practice squad, as they will throughout the season, and the Miami Dolphins are no different.
Per Monday night’s transaction wire, the Dolphins made six transactions involving their practice squad, with five players coming in and one player going out.
Miami released defensive tackle Niles Scott, who was signed this offseason and got a late jump on learning the system. This was a chance to get him some more time, but it doesn’t look like he was a great fit.
In the additions category, the Dolphins signed defensive tackle Josiah Bronson, defensive end Big Kat Bryant, defensive tackle Christopher Hinton, offensive tackle Kion Smith and defensive back Chris Steele to the practice squad.
Smith spent all of the 2021 season on Miami’s practice squad and got some good opportunities during the preseason. This will provide the Dolphins with more depth at a position that they could certainly use it.
Bronson was undrafted out of Washington last year and bounced around between the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys in his first year. He played seven games as a rookie, recording 12 total tackles.
Bryant spent his college career at Auburn and Central Florida, and he spent this preseason with the Cowboys. In all three preseason contests, he played a total of 105 snaps between defense and special teams, recording two tackles, two pass deflections and a sack.
Hinton played his college ball at Michigan and declared for the draft for 2022, forgoing his senior season. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants. Hinton played 20 defensive snaps against the New England Patriots in the preseason opener, but he was released before the second game.
Steele played for both Florida and USC before going undrafted in this year’s draft. From then, he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers before his release during final cuts. During his time with the Steelers, he recorded just one tackle while playing both slot and outside cornerback.
The practice squad is fluid, so these players could stick around all year, or they could be gone by the end of the week.
