The San Francisco Giants head to Chavez Ravine to tangle with the  Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday at 10:08 p.m. ET in a Dodger Stadium contest that kicks off the 2020 season for both teams. We analyze the Giants-Dodgers MLB betting odds and lines, with betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Giants at Dodgers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Johnny Cueto vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw

Cueto, who is 126-87 with a 3.35 ERA in his 12-year career, will be making his 297th start.

  • The right-hander pitched just 16 innings – in four starts – late last season after returning from Tommy John surgery.
  • Cueto is backed by what projects as a shaky, bottom-feeder relief corps.

Kershaw went 16-5 with a 3.03 ERA last season, averaging 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

  • The three-time NL Cy Young winner held the Giants to a .581 on-base plus slugging percentage in 2019. Over his career, Kershaw has held current SF batters to a .450 OPS while posting a near-8-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Kershaw is backed by a Dodger bullpen that paced the NL with a 3.85 ERA a year ago. LA relievers logged a fine 2.87 ERA at home last season. That figure was best in MLB by nearly half-a-run.

The list of injuries for this one includes …

Giants

  • C Buster Posey (player’s choice) and 3B Evan Longoria (oblique) are two bats missing from an already below-average offense.

Dodgers

  • OF Chris Taylor (arm) is one of just a few LA injuries heading into the 2020 campaign.

Moneyline (ML)

The Dodgers are the odds-on favorite to win the pennant in the Senior Circuit. They’ll be heavily favored in many a game along the way. But they’re likely getting too much respect in this one. STEER CLEAR of the Dodgers’ -304 price.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Dodgers would produce a profit of $3.29.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Cueto has a shaky line against current Dodger bats (.841 OPS allowed), and the Dodgers should win more games by 3-plus runs than anyone in the NL. A year ago, they outscored the Giants 93-45. A DODGERS -1.5 (-150) bet is a good way to ride LA coattails without the hefty asking price.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is 8 and is priced at -110 both ways. There’s a slight lean toward some value on the OVER, especially if the price starts to shade the Under.

2020 MLB Futures Odds: How many games will the Los Angeles Dodgers win?

Looking at 2020 MLB futures odds for how many games the Los Angeles Dodgers will win in the 60-game MLB season.

How many games will the Los Angeles Dodgers win in the 60-game 2020 MLB season? We look at the Dodgers’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2020 win total and Over/Under odds at BetMGM, and make our best bet.

Los Angeles Dodgers 2019 recap

The 2019 Dodgers went 106-56 (.654), winning the National League West by a whopping 21 games. LA’s record – a mark buoyed by a 59-22 performance at home – was the best in the NL. But the Dodgers’ season ended in disappointment, falling to the Washington Nationals in a deciding Game 5 of an NL Division Series.

The top-notch record was a supportable one – the Dodgers averaged 5.5 runs per game while allowing just 3.8. Los Angeles was remarkably consistent playing over-.600 baseball in five of six months during the season. The Dodgers were often an expensive proposition on sides, and bettors were nonetheless rewarded at a handsome clip. LA went a robust 35-9 (+11.4% ROI) when tagged with a price of -200 or more.

Los Angeles Dodgers offseason

Gone are starting pitchers Rich Hill and Kenta Maeda, who combined for 15 quality starts a year ago. But fresh faces in Dodger Blue this year include OF Mookie Betts (30.6 WAR over the last four years), SP David Price (xFIP under 4.00 over last 68G) and RP Blake Treinen (2.31 ERA over 156 IP in 2017-18, struggled in 2019).

Los Angeles Dodgers 2020 schedule

LA’s 2020 schedule will include 40 games against NL West Division foes and 20 games vs. the AL West. Five of the Dodgers’ nine road trips will be within 400 miles of Chavez Ravine.

How many games will the Los Angeles Dodgers win in 2020?

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday, July 1 at 12:10 p.m. ET.

The Dodgers Over/Under win total is tabbed as a 37.5 with the Over carrying -143 odds and the Under at +120. Figuring the team’s strength of schedule and its strength as an organization at all levels (a big key in 2020), 38-PLUS WINS IS A SOLID PLAY. A price closer to -135 makes it a value play.

Los Angeles Dodgers World Series odds

The Dodgers are the favorite to win the World Series with odds of +350 – the New York Yankees are next in the line and the AL favorite at +400). The Dodgers’ +350 is a fair price – not a ton of value, but one worthy of inclusion in a field if you’re inclined to go that way.

Los Angeles Dodgers playoff odds

LA is a heavy favorite (-667) to win the NL West. Talking yourself into any other West price is difficult, so -667 may indeed be a plus.

Dodgers’ Walker Buehler jokes about joining Rams with MLB on hold

Walker Buehler is coming for Johnny Hekker’s job.

While the NFL is still planning to play its 2020 season as scheduled, there’s no guarantee that MLB will be able to do the same. Commissioner Rob Manfred said this week that he’s no longer 100% confident that there will be a baseball season this year, which is disappointing news for everyone involved.

Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler isn’t sure he’ll be able to play baseball this season, so he’s exploring all options. He joked on Instagram that he wants to kick for the Rams, asking the team when tryouts are.

When are try outs? @rams

A post shared by Walker Buehler (@buehlersdayoff21) on

If Buehler thinks he has a shot at unseating Johnny Hekker as the Rams’ punter, he might want to think again – or try his hand at a different position where he can use his leg. The Rams have a void at kicker, if he wants to compete with a trio of players at that spot.

Buehler wasn’t the only one to shout out his city’s NFL team, either. Bryce Harper joked on Twitter about wanting to join the Eagles during this ongoing dispute between MLB and the MLBPA.

Buehler and Harper obviously aren’t going to be making the jump to the NFL, but it’s a sign of just how frustrated players are over the ongoing negotiations with MLB. It’s hard to imagine baseball not being played this year, but it’s becoming a very real possibility as time goes on.

Jalen Ramsey welcomes Mookie Betts to L.A. after blockbuster trade

The Dodgers agreed to acquire Mookie Betts from the Red Sox and Jalen Ramsey is pumped.

The Los Angeles sports scene added yet another star on Tuesday night with the Dodgers agreeing to acquire Mookie Betts in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox. Just in the last year, Los Angeles has added Jalen Ramsey, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Anthony Davis – and now Betts.

Ramsey, one of the newest arrivals in Hollywood, welcomed Betts to the city on Twitter after the trade was reported, but admitted he won’t be able to show him much since he just got there, too.

The Dodgers already looked like one of the favorites to win the World Series this season, but those odds just got even better with the arrival of Betts. They have the second-best odds to win it all at (+350), only behind the New York Yankees (+300).

Not long ago, the Rams were the talk of the town after making the Super Bowl, but since then, the Lakers, Clippers and now Dodgers have garnered the attention as of late.
