Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (38-15) play the Colorado Rockies (22-29) Sunday afternoon at 3:10 p.m. ET as the NL West foes close out a four-game series at Coors Field. Below, we analyze the Dodgers-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Dodgers at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Tony Gonsolin vs. RHP Antonio Senzatela

Gonsolin is coming off a big effort at San Diego (7 IP, 4H, 1 ER) and heads into this turn with a 1.51 ERA and 0.79 WHIP.

  • Is a fly-ball pitcher (34% GB) who has his numbers buoyed by a low rate of HR on batted balls in the air (4.9%). That number, along with a .214 batting average on balls in play, represents a skill that proves to be mostly unrepeatable. Translation: figure on Gonsolin’s surface ERA overselling true pitching skill by a wide margin.

Senzatela has logged a 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 10 GS.

  • Senzatela’s surface numbers indicate a breakout season for the four-year veteran. But the Rockies right-hander has benefited from a .270 BABIP and a 79% left-on-base percentage. While Senzatela has made strides in some key areas (control, velocity), his overall skill set is still aligned with an ERA in the high 4s.
  • The ERA has been a six-plus in 29 IP vs. LA in 2019-20. Current Dodger bats own a high-contact 1.005 OPS against him.

Money line (ML)

Los Angeles has outscored Colorado, 30-10, through games 1-3, and the Dodgers have now won five straight games overall. In get-away games on the road, LA is 8-1.

With a five-game lead in the West, the Dodgers could perhaps be in player-rest mode, and Gonsolin figures as a type to get over-bet. But Los Angeles has reached an elite level where for me, the club is tagged as “no fade.” That’s not to say the Dodgers will never lose again; they’re just good enough to confound analytics or pricing that have a lean the other way. And that’s the case on Sunday. I “LEAN” COLORADO (+185), the price is attractive. At +190, it maybe just too good. But for me, it’ll never be good enough.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The 2-1/2-run tag is trotted out here to create some more level action. Pass on DODGERS -2.5 (-106)/ROCKIES -115.

Over/Under (O/U)

With two starters worth fading, the strongest lean in this one is the OVER 12.5 (-110).

Prediction

Dodgers 8, Rockies 3

Money line (ML)

On paper, this is an easy pick straight up. The Dodgers are heavy favorites at -278 with the Rockies priced at +240. L.A. has won four straight and seven of 10, while the Rockies have lost three in a row and eight of 10. The pitching matchup is overwhelming in the Dodgers’ favor.

The price isn’t good, but if you must bet the money line, bet the DODGERS (-278).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Dodgers to win returns a profit of $3.60.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Dodgers are 1.5-run favorites in Saturday’s game (-189) and the Rockies are +1.5 (+155). The Dodgers have been a solid bet on the run line all season with the fourth-highest cover percentage in the league. They are 18-10 ATS on the road while Colorado is 10-18 ATS at home.

Your best bet here is the DODGERS -1.5 (-189).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at 12 runs, which goes with the reputation of Coors Field. The Rockies are 13-12-3 O/U at home. Dodgers games go Over 52% of the time overall and Rockies games go Under 55% of the time. Kershaw’s starts haven’t gone over 10 runs this season.

Take the UNDER 12 RUNS (-110).

Series: Dodgers lead 1-0.

Dodgers at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Alex Wood vs. RHP Ryan Castellani

Wood: 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 11.9 K/9 and 5.4 BB/9 in 8 1/3 IP over 6 games (1 start).

  • Last start (July 25): Loss, 5-4, with 3 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 K and 3 BB against the San Francisco Giants.
  • Career vs. Rockies: 4-3 with a 6.23 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 51 K and 20 BB in 56 1/3 IP over 13 games (11 starts).

  • Last start (Sept. 13): No-decision with 5 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 4 K and 6 BB in a 5-3 Rockies loss against the Los Angeles Angels.
  • He’s had one start against the Dodgers in his career: No-decision with 4 1/3 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 K and 4 BB in a 7-6 Rockies win (Sept. 6).

Prediction

Rockies 10, Dodgers 6

Money line (ML)

The Dodgers (-223) beat the Rockies 9-3 Thursday. It was a continuation of Los Angeles’ recent dominance of Colorado with the win pushing the Dodgers to a 5-2 season series lead over the Rockies. Los Angeles was 28-11 against Colorado in 2018-19.

The ROCKIES (+195) have dropped four of their last five home games against the Dodgers but Los Angeles sending Wood out there makes this a good spot for Colorado to get a home win.

I’ll SPLASH $50 on ROCKIES (+195) and double up on the run line. A $50 Rockies (+195) bet pays out $97.5 if Colorado upsets Los Angeles.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

It’s a rare 2.5-run line and there isn’t a lot of vig. TAKE ROCKIES +2.5 (-115).

Friday appears to be a bullpen/opener day for the Dodgers -2.5 (-106), which may not be a bad thing since Los Angeles ranks second in bullpen ERA and tied for first in WHIP. We are somewhat banking on Colorado to smack Wood around Coors Field.

Over/Under (O/U)

BetMGM might have priced us out of the total (13.5, O: -110, U: -110) in Dodgers-Rockies. The pitching matchup is ripe for the Over to cash but alarming trends force me to PASS ON THE TOTAL.

The Under is 3-0-1 in the last four games in Colorado, 5-0-2 in Colorado’s last seven games and 4-0-1 in the Dodgers’ last five road games with the total set at 11 or higher.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (35-15) and Colorado Rockies (22-26) begin a four-game series at Coors Field with an 8:40 p.m. ET game Thursday. Below, we analyze the Dodgers-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Dodgers at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Julio Urias vs. LHP Kyle Freeland

Urias owns a 3.53 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through nine starts. That number marks the southpaw’s most in a season since 2016 (15). In 227 1/3 career innings, Urias has posted an ERA of 3.25.

  • Has displayed some control issues while notching a 4.50 ERA over his last 5 starts.
  • Has scuffled over five career games at Coors Field (1.002 OPS allowed).

Freeland has logged a 3.54 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 10 starts (yes, on the surface, these are two evenly matched port-siders).

  • Has a shaky line against current Dodger bats (high-walk, high contact .913 OPSA). The veteran hurler has tossed 11 2/3 innings with 10 ER allowed against LA over 2019-20.

Dodgers at Rockies: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Money line (ML)

The Dodgers (-154) are better against right-handed pitching, but current LA bats have a tremendous line against Freeland. Peg Los Angeles as having a significant edge in bullpens — the Dodgers are a top-5 unit; the Rockies (+140) are a bottom-5 group.

There are some blemishes in the Dodgers’ armor. LA is 1-4 over its last five series openers on the road, and perhaps there is a letdown coming off a big series win over San Diego. Los Angeles is 8-3 over its last 11 games in Denver. Chalk the talent-rich visitors up as worthy of a -160 tag on Thursday night. The DODGERS (-154) are worth a play.

New to sports betting? A winning $50 wager on the Dodgers would return a profit of $32.47.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The lean on LA in a high-total run environment makes for a solid value on the DODGERS -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over has hit in just 10 of 24 games at Coors Field this season. Take a pass on the Over 11.5 (-110)/Under 11.5 (-110). There are too many cross signals with how we might figure how the involved starters, relievers and offenses are over or underrated.
