Fall Guys x Doctor Who event announced with crossover skins

The eternal Time Lord and their most iconic villain are coming to Fall Guys this week in a new crossover event.

Just a week after Jodie Whittaker bowed out of Doctor Who with a spectacular regeneration, the show has announced a crossover event with Fall Guys, happening this week. The game is currently in the midst of a Halloween event, and what better way to follow that up than with a show notorious for making kids hide behind the sofa?

This isn’t the first time Doctor Who has had skins in high-profile video games, as the TARDIS and several unique adventures were available in Fortnite Creative back in March 2022. Fall Guys is also no stranger to crossovers, with a very high-profile Sonic the Hedgehog event earlier this year bringing a unique stage to the game.

No stages are coming this time around, but there are a bunch of great skins and other cosmetics. Shown off in the trailer were three skins. The first is based on the iconic golden Dalek design from the modern iteration of the show. The other two are both different versions of The Doctor themselves. Both Tom Baker’s fourth Doctor and Jodie Whittaker’s thirteenth Doctor will be available during this event.

On top of that, you can get some unique banners for your in-game nameplate. Similarly to the skins, you can get one featuring the Dalek’s golden shell, the fourth Doctor’s colorful scarf, and the thirteenth Doctor’s crystalline TARDIS console.

That may not be all, as a few leaks on Twitter are showing that a skin based on David Tennant’s tenth Doctor may be in this event as well. It wasn’t shown off in the trailer, so it may not be released for any number of reasons, but leaks have shown it exists in the game.

Either way the event, officially dubbed “TARDIS Treats” will be running from Tuesday, November 1 to Saturday, November 5. If you’re after these skins, then you’re going to want to get them during this window, as they may never return to the store once the event is over. There is no word yet on how much these will cost, or whether they will be unlockable through in-game challenges.

Ncuti Gatwa was named the 14th Doctor of ‘Doctor Who’ and the internet loved it

Gatwa will officially man the TARDIS in 2023.

Doctor Who is a staple of English culture. It’s undoubtedly right on level with an avid following of the Premier League or fish and chips. I mean, just look at this: How many individual TV role announcements get this much press? We’re talking about the part of a lifetime!

The BBC series about the Time Lord or “Doctor” — an almost omniscient being who appears as a regular person — has been airing in some fashion in England for nearly five decades. With the show developing a long-standing following outside of the United Kingdom, the person who plays the titular Doctor knows they take the role with great pride and care.

The next person to take the mantel will be actor Ncuti Gatwa — the 14th Doctor with the incredible power of the TARDIS at their universal disposal.

Gatwa steps in for Jodie Whitaker, who revealed that she would be turning in her sonic screwdriver after a few 2022 extended specials last summer. Presumably — as is per series tradition — Gatwa will take over from Whitaker in her final episode in the usual “regeneration” of the Doctor’s physical form. He’ll then take over full-time, screwdriver and all, in 2023.

Before becoming the new Doctor, the 29-year-old Gatwa made a name for himself on Netflix’s coming-of-age series, Sex Education. Gatwa plays Eric Effiong, one of the leads and the gay best friend of the main character. He’s earned three British Academy Television nominations for Best Male Comedy Performance for his portrayal.

Gatwa will become the first person of color to headline Doctor Who in its run. The importance of the role and how much the Doctor means to England and greater science fiction fans was assuredly meaningful to the actor:

More from the BBC:

“It feels really amazing, Gatwa said. “It’s a true honour. This role is an institution and it’s so iconic.”

“Speaking on the red carpet before Sunday’s Bafta TV Awards, where he was nominated for Sex Education, Gatwa said the role of the Doctor ‘means a lot to so many people, including myself.'”

“He added: ‘I feel very grateful to have had the baton handed over and I’m going to try to do my best.'”

That said, while the Doctor is an essential fixture in British culture, it doesn’t mean every performer doesn’t bring their own flair to the role. Gatwa — never lacking a powerful on-screen presence — is certainly thrilled to bring his unique take into the spotlight.

Anything feels possible when you can work with longtime writer and showrunner Russell T. Davies.

Via the BBC:

“Gatwa said he was ‘definitely going to do my own thing’ with the role rather than modelling himself on any previous Doctor.

In a statement, he added that the prospect of working with Davies was ‘a dream come true.’

He said: His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger – an actor’s metaphorical playground. The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show.'”

Only time will tell what adventures lie ahead for Gatwa as the Doctor. Fans of the hit series were over the moon to learn that he’d soon be at the forefront of some of their favorite stories.

Daleks invade EVE Online in new Doctor Who crossover

Innit space.

Doctor Who  fans might want to brush up on their interstellar etiquette as the beloved BBC series is getting a crossover event in EVE Online, the space-faring MMORPG by CCP Games.

The EVE Online x Doctor Who  event begins on Jan. 13 and runs until Feb. 1 in EVE Online. Players will find artifacts from Doctor Who’s  Great Time War to track down and battle with the infamous Daleks. Kevin Jorge, senior producer at BBC Studios, seems pretty jazzed about the collaboration.

EVE Online x Doctor Who not only brings two iconic universes together, but also the passionate Whovians with the just-as-passionate pilots of New Eden,” Jorge said in a press release. “By bringing the fanbases together, the already massive battles of EVE Online  are sure to become even more explosive. Only time will tell if New Eden’s fiercest pilots have what it takes to challenge the might of the Daleks.”

CCP Games also shared an event trailer called The Interstellar Convergence, which you can check out below.

Crossovers are all the rage in video games these days,  especially in FortniteEVE Online x Doctor  Who stands out a bit because it’s the first cross-promotion event like this in the game’s history. When you consider that EVE Online  came out nearly twenty years ago, that’s a big deal.
