Eagle FC 46 video: Diego Sanchez stays locked on Kevin Lee in first fight-week faceoff

Kevin Lee and Diego Sanchez’s body languages couldn’t have been more different.

MIAMI – [autotag]Kevin Lee[/autotag] and [autotag]Diego Sanchez[/autotag] took a long, hard look at each other Wednesday, but one of them was locked in longer than the other.

Lee and Sanchez meet in the Eagle FC 46 super lightweight main event on Friday at the FLXcast Arena. Before they get there, though, the two former UFC standouts faced off for the first time during fight week after a pre-event news conference on Wednesday.

Lee (18-7) and Sanchez (30-13) got up close and person, with very different body languages – Lee calm and relaxed, Sanchez intense with his chest puffed out. It was clear that Sanchez wasn’t going to break the faceoff, so Lee finally did. That’s when Sanchez turned to the cameras and bellowed, “I AM THE MOUNTAIN!”

You can watch their faceoff, along with the rest of the main card, in the video above.

Diego Sanchez hospitalized with serious case of COVID-19: ‘This has been some trying times’

Diego Sanchez appears to be in a tough battle after contracting COVID-19.

[autotag]Diego Sanchez[/autotag]’s struggle with COVID-19 has left him hospitalized.

Sanchez, a UFC Hall of Famer, posted an update last week, saying that he was doing better after qualifying for Regeneron monoclonal antibodies. But since then, it appears things have taken a turn for the worse, leaving him with low oxygen levels, blood clots in both legs and pneumonia that has attacked his respiratory system.

“Pneumonia Covid never give up.”

“Low oxygen numbers and a pneumonia. This has been some tying times 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼✝️✝️✝️💯💯💯 didn’t even get a saltine cracker today.”

“Blood clots in both my legs”

Despite experiencing severe symptoms from COVID-19, Sanchez said he hasn’t taken his vaccination shots yet because he’s not entirely sold.

“I’m going thru it but I can’t say I’m sold on the vax at the current moment in time.”

Sanchez, who parted ways with the UFC in April, is currently a free agent. In August, Bare Knuckle FC president David Feldman told MMA Junkie that a deal to sign Sanchez was almost finalized but not until he was medically cleared to compete.

Sanchez’s departure from the UFC came after a dispute between his then-manager, Joshua Fabia, and the promotion’s brass over Sanchez’s medicals. Sanchez later separated from Fabia as his manager and business partner.

BKFC boss David Feldman says Chad Mendes’ debut likely postponed to November in Miami

Chad Mendes’ Bare Knuckle FC debut has been pushed a month.

[autotag]Chad Mendes[/autotag]’ Bare Knuckle FC debut likely has been pushed a month.

Originally targeted for Oct. 22 in Chandler, Ariz., BKFC boss David Feldman revealed Mendes’ return to competition now will take place in November at a different location.

“We’re probably going to move it to Nov. 12 in Miami only because we have a little bit of issues with the venue there in Arizona,” Feldman told MMA Junkie. “So we’re going to move that. We have three guys on the table right now (for his opponent) – we are picking it (Friday). We said we were going to pick it before, but we have some issues with the venue. So (Friday), we’ll have an opponent for Chad Mendes. We’ll be able to announce that (Friday) or Monday. We’re definitely going to announce that one.”

Feldman also gave an update on [autotag]Diego Sanchez[/autotag], whose signing is expected to be finalized soon. Feldman aims to have the “TUF 1” winner debut in his hometown and is closing in on his debut opponent, as well as a surprise signing.

“I know you may have heard that Diego Sanchez may be signing with us, (or) may not,” Feldman said. “We’re going to try to narrow that down (Friday) and narrow down his opponent if he does make his debut. We’re looking at December in Albuquerque, N.M., which would be great. It’s his hometown. We have some really great options on the table there, as well. So we’re just waiting to dot the I’s and cross the T’s on that and then we can make that official.

“And this one, I wish I could tell you, but I can’t. But I think when we announce this one next week, everybody’s going to go, ‘Holy sh*t.’ It’s going to be a great announcement, and I can’t wait to make that announcement. It’s a top prospect in mixed martial arts right now that just recently became a free agent, so it’s going to be great for us.”

‘I don’t wanna go to jail for murder’: Dillon Danis responds to Diego Sanchez’s bare-knuckle callout

Diego Sanchez issued a bare-knuckle challenge to Dillon Danis, who doesn’t seem interested in facing the UFC Hall of Famer.

[autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] has caught the attention of a UFC Hall of Famer, who wants to meet in the boxing ring without gloves.

Following a tweet in which Danis claims a big offer was made to box former UFC middleweight champion [autotag]Michael Bisping[/autotag], [autotag]Diego Sanchez[/autotag] threw his name in the hat by offering a challenge of his own.

Early Thursday morning, Danis sent this tweet tagging Bisping:

a huge offer has been made to @bisping to box me let’s see if he mans up and takes it

It wasn’t the first time Danis tried to get the attention of Bisping, as he sent this tweet a few days prior:

Later Thursday afternoon, Sanchez intervened and jumped in the replies with an emphatic callout for a bare-knuckle boxing match, tagging BKFC and president David Feldman, along with Triller’s social media handles.

Box me Dillon I’m closer to your size/age & would fight you at any weight in any sport! You are a BIG GANGSTA WHY DONT YOU POP YOUR CHERRY AND BARE THOSE BJJ KNUCKLES IN @bareknucklefc @DavidFeldman @trillerfight @triller

Danis flatly replied to Sanchez’s challenge by stating, “I don’t wanna go to jail for murder stay outta this little guy before you get hurt.”

While Danis offered his reply, Sanchez wasn’t quite done with the interaction.

He’s thinking of what to say to devalue me but he’s a b*tch I’d slap him in person

Sanchez was last in action nearly a year ago in his final UFC bout against Jake Matthews, a fight he lost by unanimous decision. Following his unceremonious exit from the promotion in April and splitting with his manager and coach Joshua Fabia, Feldman said a deal with BKFC was almost done with Sanchez, pending medical clearance.

Danis, a BJJ coach for UFC superstar Conor McGregor and, underwent reconstructive knee surgery in March 2020 and has not competed since. Undefeated in his professional MMA career, he was on the heels of back-to-back first-round submission finishes in Bellator. Now it appears he wants to test his striking skills in the boxing ring.

However, Sanchez doesn’t seem to pique his interest.

Diego Sanchez appears at BKFC event, says bare-knuckle boxing ‘would be fun’

Don’t be surprised if Diego Sanchez eventually fights for BKFC.

What [autotag]Diego Sanchez[/autotag] does in his post-UFC career is anyone’s guess, but don’t be surprised if “The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner eventually ends up competing in bare-knuckle boxing.

Sanchez, 39, made an appearance Friday at a Bare Knuckle FC press conference in Miami. After hyping Saturday’s BKFC 18 event, Sanchez addressed the possibility of competing in bare-knuckle.

“If I ever get into the BKB, yeah, it would be fun,” Sanchez said. “I never really liked the gloves in the UFC anyway. So, I think it’s better. You got to pick your shots. You got to be smarter. We got to probably do a boxing fight first, warm these hands up. We’re going to see. We’re going to keep everything open.”

Working in favor of a future move to BKFC for Sanchez is the fact that he has a good relationship with promotion president David Feldman.

“I like Dave, and Dave’s a good man,” Sanchez said. “He flew me out here, and it ain’t the first time he’s flown me out. Dave’s a solid guy, and I appreciate that.”

[lawrence-related id=613269,612830,609264]

Since it was founded in 2018, it’s been common for BKFC to sign MMA fighters with name value to its roster – Thiago Alves, Jason Knight, Artem Lobov, and Hector Lombard among them. Former UFC fighters Paige VanZant and Rachael Ostovich will headline BKFC 19 on July 23.

Wherever Sanchez competes next, it’ll be his first fight outside of the UFC in more than 16 years. Sanchez was released by the UFC in late April after his coach and manager, Josh Fabia, got into a dispute with promotion officials over his medical records.

Following a weeks-long saga involving the controversial Fabia, Sanchez parted ways with him professionally last month.
