NFL reporter tells Colin Cowherd that the Jets ‘have been humbled’

Are the Jets a more humble team this year?

Following the disappointment from last year, veteran NFL reporter Diana Russini believes that the New York Jets are a new team.

A Jets team that Russini, a reporter for The Athletic, believes has changed not just on the field but in terms of their mentality.

In an appearance on ‘The Herd‘ on Tuesday, Russini talked about the Jets rebounding from last year. A season with high expectations came crashing down in the first quarter of Week 1 following an Achilles injury to Aaron Rodgers.

But Russini believes that some of the bravado from the Jets last year has been replaced.

Here is the complete takeaway from Russini about the Jets in her conversation with Colin Cowherd:

“They were all in last year, we know what happened. It didn’t work out. So here we are now.

“The Jets have done an incredible of just quieting the noise. Colin remember this time last year? We were going bonkers. I was on your show every other day talking about the Jets: ‘Aaron looks amazing in camp’…He’s going to put on a show in Florham Park, we’re going to see it again.

“He’s going to be making these throws that social media is going to click…and slow-mo it…and add the most beautiful Top Gun music to it. It’s going to be perfection and beautiful. But in terms of tempering the emotions and expectations, were not going to hear Robert Saleh talk Super Bowl like we did last training camp, remember that?

“They’ve learned, that is the one thing – that’s my biggest takeaway from the offseason in my conversation with coaches, with players. They’ve been humbled, they’ve been humbled. They know it is going to take more than what they were doing last year. It’s going to talk a lot more than just talking about it.”

Justin Jefferson on status for Week 12: ‘If I’m feeling good, I will play’

Jefferson sounds a little bit closer to returning to the field

The million-dollar question for the Minnesota Vikings is surrounding the health of wide receiver Justin Jefferson. He has missed the last six games with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs but has been practicing with the team now for three consecutive weeks.

Jefferson spoke to the media on Friday, which came a day after The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that Jefferson was unlikely to play on Monday night against the Chicago Bears.

“We’ll see,” Jefferson said. “We still have more days to practice and really evaluate everything. We’re going to weigh the options correctly, making sure that I’m feeling well and prepared to play a game, and if I’m feeling good, I will play.”

This toes the company line that the Vikings have followed throughout the course of Jefferson’s recovery. The coaching staff has been steadfast that he wouldn’t be rushed back with any sort of urgency as they wanted the hamstring injury to be fully healed. Jefferson was hitting top speeds in practice, which is a really good sign.

The earliest we will get any real clarity on this subject is going to be Saturday afternoon, when the final injury report comes out, or when the Vikings are required to finalize their rosters prior to game day.

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins reportedly out for Week 1 vs. Jets

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is reportedly out for the team’s Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets

The Baltimore Ravens saw running back go down for the entirety of the 2021 season during the team’s final preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Dobbins has worked his way back from his injury, but reportedly isn’t quite ready enough to play in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

It’s been reported by multiple outlets that Dobbins won’t suit up on Sunday, which would likely lead to a running back room of Kenyan Drake, Mike Davis and Justice Hill. The team will also be without running back Gus Edwards, who was placed on the reserve/PUP list after going down for the year as well in 2021.

Once Dobbins returns, it’s likely the team will ease him back into action as he gets back to playing. That way, he can ease his way back from his severe knee injury just in case.  If Dobbins can play in a couple of weeks, that would make the Ravens’ running back depth even stronger.
