Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (7-10) and Colorado Rockies (11-5) were involved in a high-scoring affair Monday, and they’ll do battle again Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 8:40 p.m. ET at Coors Field. We analyze the Diamondbacks-Rockies betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Diamondbacks at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Zac Gallen vs. LHP Kyle Freeland

Gallen put up a 2.81 ERA in 2019, and in three starts this year, is sporting an identical mark, with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 16 innings.

  • He was shaky in his first start but has rebounded in a big way. He allowed two earned runs in six innings against both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, while punching out 15 batters and walking just two.
  • Gallen faced the Rockies twice in 2019 (once in Colorado). He posted a solid 2.70 ERA in those starts, but surrendered 14 hits and seven walks in 10 innings (2.10 WHIP), with an 11:7 K:BB ratio

Following a 2018 season in which he recorded a 2.85 ERA, Freeland’s ERA jumped to 6.73 in 22 starts last season. He is back on track so far in 2020. With a little help from a .235 BABIP, he boasts a 2.41 ERA through three starts.

  • He hasn’t faced the strongest offenses (Texas, San Diego, San Francisco), and his 5.3 K/9 isn’t impressive. But Freeland has made two of the starts in Colorado, and has kept the ball on the ground at a 55 percent clip. Freeland is from the area and has a better grip on the altitude than most.
  • Freeland has made 46 career appearances at Coors Field (43 starts), and has a 4.22 ERA, compared to a 3.93 road mark.

Prediction

Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 3

Moneyline (ML)

Diamondbacks (-112)

Rockies (100)

Gallen has been impressive since his arrival in the majors in June of last season. He shut down powerful lineups in his last two starts, and should be able to limit the damage against him at Coors Field.

Freeland, meanwhile, has had positive results in his first three starts of 2020, but hasn’t yet shown the skills to make us forget his disastrous 2019 campaign. Take the DIAMONDBACKS (-112) to win this one.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Diamondbacks to win returns a profit of $8.93.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Diamondbacks -1 (+105)

Rockies +1 (-125)

The Diamondbacks definitely have the pitching advantage in this game, and while Freeland has looked better thus far in 2020, he did have a 9.25 ERA in 10 home starts in 2019. Take the DIAMONDBACKS, and consider bumping the run line up to -1.5 (+125) or -2.5 (+170).

Over/Under (O/U)

Over 11 (-110)

Under 11 (-110)

Despite the hitter-friendly environment, Gallen should be able to keep the Colorado bats relatively quiet in this one. The jury is still out on Freeland. He’s highly unlikely to duplicate the sub-3.00 ERA from 2018, but he’s also not going to be as bad as he was in 2019. The UNDER looks like the best bet in this one.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (6-10) head to Denver to take on the Colorado Rockies (11-4) Monday in the first game of a three-game series. First pitch is at 8:40 p.m. ET at Coors Field. We analyze the Diamondbacks-Rockies betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Diamondbacks at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Robbie Ray vs. RHP Jon Gray

Ray: 1-2, 9.45 ERA, 17 K, 11 BB through 13 1/3 innings

  • Ray has walked a league-high 11 batters.

Prediction

Rockies 7, Diamondbacks 4

Moneyline (ML)

The Rockies are favored at -129 as the NL West Division leaders against Arizona (+115), who is last in the NL West. Ray has struggled and the Arizona offense has as well. Take the ROCKIES (-129).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rockies to win returns a profit of $7.75.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Colorado is favored at -1 (+105). It is a strange line because the Rockies are favored to win, but the D-Backs are -125 to cover the +1. I don’t see it. Basically, the Diamondbacks only win when Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly start. Ray just hasn’t put things together. Take the ROCKIES -1 (+105) to win by at least 2 runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at 11.5 runs, with -110 on either side. Both Arizona and Colorado hit the Under more often the Over in their games (the Diamondbacks are 6-10 O/U, while the Rockies are 6-9-1 O/U). With Arizona’s struggles scoring runs, go with the UNDER 11.5 (-110).
