The first new Diablo class in nearly 10 years is coming to Immortal

The Blood Knight, the first new Diablo class in over a decade, is coming to the Diablo Immortal mobile game soon, with brand-new skills

The Blood Knight, the first new Diablo class in almost a decade, is coming to Diablo Immortal, the series’ mobile game spinoff, soon. Blizzard announced the Blood Knight during a new livestream that, despite being devoted to Diablo 4’s first season, had plenty of information about the new class ahead of it’s debut on July 13, 2023.

The story behind the Blood Knight is that they were once bitten by a vampire, but halted the curse before they became fully enthralled. Now they exist in limbo, part monster and part human, but the bright side is they get a nice mix of powers to take down monsters with.

The Blood Knight uses a polearm for close-range melee attacks, and they also have a suite of shadow and blood abilities to attack foes from afar. Blizzard says their one drawback is the Blood Knight’s limited mobility, but you can make up for that with legendary essences that modify their standard abilities.

Some of them give the Blood Knight a leaping attack, for example, while others bestow life-stealing abilities on them so the Knight can stay alive longer.

You have the usual choice of two ultimates for the Blood Knight. One is a 3-hit polearm combo followed by a 5-hit combo that stuns foes at the end. The second uses a slashing attack up close or a dagger throw when you’re further away, and you can augment the attack so it deals more damage or ricochets.

Finally is the Abomination meter. This charges similarly to the ultimate meter and, when full, gives the Blood Knight a new primary attack, a blood rush skill that covers a lot of ground quickly, and a 3-hit combo that launches, slams, and stuns foes.

You can check the Diablo Immortal blog site for all the details.

Diablo Immortal makes over $1 million a day in microtransactions

The mobile game reportedly makes $1 million a day from its in-game loot boxes and microtransactions.

Diablo Immortal, a free-to-play mobile game in the Diablo franchise, reportedly makes $1 million a day from its in-game loot boxes and microtransactions.

Diablo Immortal has faced criticism from fans for its ‘predatory’ microtransactions causing the game to be banned in countries including Belgium and the Netherlands. Many have called the game pay-to-win, with some fans calculating that it would cost approximately an eye-watering $540,000 to fully upgrade your character.

As reported by VGC, data collected by AppMagic suggests that publisher Activision Blizzard collects an average of $1 million per day via the game, with an all-time high of $2.4 million achieved in just one day around a week after launch. While this is a significant amount, it is eclipsed by games such as Fortnite which reportedly make around $70 million each week.

Activision Blizzard has released figures showing a drastic decline in profits and players over the last two years. Analysts suggest this is due to lawsuits levied against the company which detail numerous allegations of systematic abuse seen as part of the company culture. The company instead claims the drop in players is due to recent releases in the Call of Duty franchise not meeting its standards of quality, and delays in Blizzard’s release schedule.

Blizzard had promised games in the Diablo and Overwatch series’ which failed to meet predicted release deadlines. The publisher chose to fold Vicarious Visions, developer of Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, into Blizzard in order to help with work on Diablo Immortal. It has also purchased another studio, Proletariat, so that its 100 employees can help release World of Warcraft’s promised Dragonflight expansion on time.

Diablo Immortal differs from other games including microtransactions as many see the loot boxes and spending as required to proceed. In order to upgrade your character, you are required to own five-star legendary gems. While these are freely available in loot boxes, these items only drop once per month during gameplay. Creating this barrier to progression is what has encouraged players to purchase these items and has created profits for the company.

Diablo Immortal delayed in China just days before launch

This delay comes after Diablo Immortal’s official account on Weibo was banned.

NetEase has indefinitely delayed Diablo Immortal’s release in China, Reuters reported Sunday.

The official delay announcement post, which is readable via Google Translate, states that developers are “making a number of optimization adjustments” so Diablo Immortal runs better on a wide variety of devices. No new release window information was given, so who knows when the game could turn up.

This delay comes mere days after Weibo, a massive Chinese social media website, banned the Diablo Immortal account for “violating relevant laws and regulations” on June 15, 2022. An actual reason wasn’t given, but several Reddit users noted one now-deleted post from the Diablo Immortal account that apparently reads “Why has the pooh not stepped down yet” on Weibo. This comment was allegedly from a rogue employee posting antigovernmental sentiments. As the Financial Times reports, Winnie the Pooh, in this context, refers to President Xi Jinping. China has been banning all media related to the character for years.

It’s worth noting that there’s no telling if Diablo Immortal‘s delay has anything to do with its Weibo account ban, but the timing is interesting, at least. NetEase co-developed the game with Blizzard, and its western release is overflowing with controversy.

Joining a faction is a great way to start your endgame in Diablo Immortal. There are two clans in Diablo Immortal, the Shadows and the Immortals.

Diablo Immortal: Best starter classes

In this guide we help you pick the best Diablo Immortal starter class.

Picking a class in Diablo Immortal is a feat unto itself. Not only are there six unique classes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, but there is how Diablo Immortal is monetized. Microtransactions such as the battle pass need to be purchased per character, so before you start spending all of your hard-earned cash, come take a look at the classes and what they have to offer.

This guide will help you pick the best Diablo Immortal starter class so you can get ahead early.

Diablo Immortal faces severe criticism over microtransactions

Pay-to-win accusations are getting thrown around a lot.

Fans are not happy with Diablo Immortal‘s launch, and the frustration stems entirely from the monetization systems. Full disclosure: I’ve not sunk any time into the game and probably never will after reading what it’s all about.

The free-to-play spinoff came out last week on PC and Mobile, with loads of optional in-game purchases. That’s kind of how games of this nature bring in revenue, but Diablo Immortal stitches microtransactions onto the series’ core item-hunting gameplay loop. So instead of just picking up cool swords and armor by killing monsters, the best stuff is mainly found by busting out a credit card.

Most of the controversy centers on Legendary Gems — trinkets ranked from one to five stars that add powerful buffs and modifiers to armor. Trouble is, the best Legendary Gems can only drop once a month unless you fork over lots of money. Den of Geek expertly broke the microtransaction structure down brilliantly, so check that out for the ugly details. The bottom line is it’s wildly expensive to get the best gear in Diablo Immortal.

As you might expect, fans are mad. Let’s take a look at the response below.

Diablo Immortal release date set for June 2 on mobile – AND PC

Diablo Immortal is now releasing on PC and mobile, and it’s happening on June 2.

Well, there’s a twist. Diablo Immortal, the controversial Diablo mobile project from Blizzard, is coming out on June 2 – including an “open beta” on PC. After years of development as a mobile-only project, alongside many requests from the community for it to have a PC release, the game will now feature full cross-play and cross-progression with Windows.

This was announced in a new video today that went out alongside Activision Blizzard’s Q1 2022 financial results. The video, hosted by Game Director Wyatt Chung of ‘do you guys not have phones?’ infamy, is fairly short, detailing some specifics about the game as well as the release date and move to PC.

Importantly, there will be one account shared across all devices. So, log in on your phone on the way home from work, and when you get back you can immediately switch to playing the same character on PC. Full controller support, as well as mouse and keyboard and some new control mechanisms for the franchise with WASD movement, is present. Given that, ports to consoles feel like they can’t be far behind.

Chung and Blizzard’s reasoning for the move to include a PC version is about having the largest user base possible. Given the PR disaster that was the initial announcement, and the long time since that the community has been asking for a PC version, plus the massive success of Lost Ark in the MMOARPG space, it all adds up to a smart move. Quite why they couldn’t have saved themselves the years of hurt and announce this in 2018 is anyone’s guess.

Here’s the full announcement, and a couple of articles from Blizzard about it.

In addition, the Q1 financials announced a downturn in performance for the company overall. This was blamed on “lower results for Call of Duty and product cycle timing at Blizzard” – COD Vanguard sold badly and Blizzard didn’t release a major game/expansion, in English. They also said this year’s COD, a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019, is “the most advanced experience in franchise history” and a “new free-to-play Warzone experience” is on the way.

There were also further teases about a new “Warcraft mobile experience” being announced in the coming weeks. Rumours have long-persisted of a ‘Warcraft Go’ AR game similar to Pokemon Go, which would be the leading candidate.

Finally, Diablo 4 has begun company-wide internal testing, King is still making more money than God, and the Microsoft-ATVI buyout is still on the way. No mention of that Blizzard survival game though.
