Devin Carter is rumored to have received a draft promise in the lottery

Former Providence guard Devin Carter has reportedly received a draft promise from a team in the lottery.

Former Providence guard Devin Carter has reportedly received a promise from a team to be selected in the 2024 NBA draft lottery, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

Carter was named the Big East Player of the Year after averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals on 47.3% shooting from the field in 33 games. He led the conference in scoring and finished 10th in the country in defensive rebounds (253).

The 22-year-old began his college career at South Carolina, averaging nine points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists as a freshman. He transferred to Providence and saw steady growth in his game while playing two seasons with the Friars.

Carter, the son of former 13-year NBA veteran Anthony Carter, began the year viewed as a potential second-round pick. He has since improved his draft stock following a strong junior campaign and could now reportedly be selected in the lottery, given his ability as a defender.

The 6-foot-3 guard was considered one of the top defenders in the country and was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watchlist in February. He ranked 10th in the country in defensive win shares (2.7) and 14th in defensive box plus-minus (plus-4.9).

Carter expanded his offensive game this past season by improving his 3-point percentage from 29.9% to 37.7% on 6.8 attempts per game. He projects to fill several needs for teams in the first half of the draft and could develop into an impactful player at the next level.

The 2024 NBA draft will occur June 26-27 in New York City.

ESPN 2024 NBA mock draft: Thunder selects Providence’s Devin Carter

ESPN 2024 NBA mock draft: Thunder selects Providence’s Devin Carter.

As the calendar flips to June, the 2024 NBA draft is less than a month away. The Oklahoma City Thunder will enter it with the No. 12 selection via the Houston Rockets.

The lottery pick is OKC’s sole selection this year — a far cry from the previous years when it had multiplayer classes. Despite this, Thunder general manager Sam Presti admitted he was a fan of this year’s class, which is viewed as one of the weaker classes in recent history.

In ESPN’s latest 2024 NBA mock draft, experts Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo had the Thunder selecting Providence guard Devin Carter with the No. 12 spot.

“Carter has earned himself looks in the top 10 from teams, including San Antonio and Memphis, who value his reliability, toughness and all-around readiness to step in and contribute immediately. He brings quite a bit to the table defensively, has made strides as a shooter and plays with a nonstop motor, making him a particularly appealing choice for teams angling to compete sooner rather than later.

The Thunder have quite a bit of depth in the backcourt already, with two excellent defensive guards in Lu Dort and Cason Wallace, but could opt to stack the deck further at this spot and let Carter challenge for minutes right away. “

The 22-year-old spent three college seasons split between South Carolina and Providence. He averaged 19.7 points on 47.3% shooting, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season. He shot 37.7% from 3 on 6.8 attempts.

Despite being just 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Carter could address the Thunder’s rebounding woes. He’s also a high-volume outside shooter, which OKC needs on its roster. The fit makes sense as a role player for the Thunder.

The 2024 NBA Draft Combine has concluded, and as the dust settles in Chicago, we review the most significant winners and losers from this year’s pre-draft event. Despite being considered one of the weakest drafts in recent memory, the combine still plays a crucial role. It helps fringe lottery picks, determines if a player is a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, and boosts the chances of players who might have gone undrafted. With the draft just over a month away, here’s a breakdown of the standout moments and performances from this year’s combine.

Sixers predicted to take Providence’s Devin Carter at No. 16 in draft

A draft predictor has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting Providence guard Devin Carter at No. 16 in the 2024 NBA draft.

The 2024 NBA draft will take place on June 26 (first round) and June 27 (second round). The Philadelphia 76ers have the No. 16 pick at the moment, and even though they’re likely to trade the pick for a win-now player, there are some options at 16.

The Sixers could certainly use a wing player. Somebody who can produce on both ends of the floor in the high pressure situations in the playoffs would be a great fit next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

However, they could also use a backup point guard. Another ballhandler who can run things on the offensive end would be a big help. The folks over at HoopsHype used their Draft Predictor and they believe the Sixers will take Providence guard Devin Carter.

HoopsHype puts Carter to the Sixers at a 22.2% chance of happening while Baylor wing Ja’Kobe Walter has a 20.2% chance of being selected by Philadelphia.

A tough-minded guard on either end of the floor, Carter averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 37.7% from deep in the 2023-24 season for Providence.

Providence guard Devin Carter listed as fit for Bulls in NBA Draft

The Chicago Bulls were listed as a good team fit for Providence guard Devin Carter.

As the Chicago Bulls plan for the offseason, there will be a few crucial points for them to focus on. Free agency won’t be nearly as important as the trade market, which may be the most vital area for the Bulls, but on top of it all, they’ll have to make good decisions in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Adding quality young talent to play alongside Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu is a must for the Bulls, who need to be planning for the future. There are a bunch of players who could be good fits next to their core, and the front office needs to hit.

Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report wrote a scouting report for Providence guard Devin Carter, listing the Bulls as a good team fit.

“Dangerous in both ball-screen and spot-up shooting situations,Carter can play on and off the ball,” Wasserman wrote. “He’s still more wired to score than play-make, and NBA coaches will likely hesitate to use him as a primary decision-maker. He’ll operate as a combo guard from the 2 spot.

“The big question is how much of his game will translate to the NBA given his late-blooming skills and physical/athletic limitations. If the scoring outbursts don’t carry over, he’ll play a versatility role similar to Brandin Podziemski’s with his shotmaking, secondary creation, outlier rebounding and defense.

“He could look more like Derrick White if he provides more of a reliable scoring punch and he emerges as a perimeter stopper.”

Adding a two-way talent like Carter would be great for the Bulls.

Projected first-round pick Devin Carter declares for 2024 NBA draft

Carter was named the Big East Player of the Year after averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals with the Friars.

Projected first-round pick Devin Carter on Wednesday told Jonathan Givony of ESPN that he will forgo his remaining college eligibility and declare for the 2024 NBA draft.

Carter was named the Big East Player of the Year after averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals on 47.3% shooting from the field in 33 games. He led the conference in scoring and finished 10th in the country in defensive rebounds (253).

The 6-foot-3 guard began his college career at South Carolina, averaging nine points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists as a freshman. He transferred to Providence and saw steady growth in his game while playing two seasons with the Friars.

Carter, the son of former 13-year NBA veteran Anthony Carter, began the year viewed as a potential second-round pick. However, he established himself as a mid-to-late first-round pick with a sensational year, given his ability as a defender.

The recently turned 22-year-old was considered one of the top defenders in the country. He was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watchlist in February, ranking 10th in the country in defensive win shares (2.7) and 14th in defensive box plus-minus (plus-4.9).

Carter expanded his offensive game this past season by improving his 3-point percentage from 29.9% to 37.7% on 6.8 attempts per game. He hit several big shots throughout the year and used his size to get into the paint and finish.

The 2024 NBA draft will occur June 26-27 in New York City.

Auburn is back in the hunt for four-star WR Devin Carter

Carter recently backed off his pledge to Florida State, and Auburn has the chance to capitalize.

Florida State‘s loss has the potential to be Auburn’s gain.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Devin Carter[/autotag] backed off his pledge to Florida State in January. Auburn is among the programs that have the chance to capitalize on the opportunity.

Carter, a native of Augusta, Georgia, recently broke down his top schools with On3’s Chad Simmons. Carter says that he is still considering Florida State as his college destination, but is also taking a look at several SEC programs including Auburn. His relationship with wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] is one of several reasons Carter is considering Auburn.

“I was at Auburn for the Iron Bowl and it is about relationships with them. Coach Marcus Davis is a great coach and I have a great relationship with him. He is a cool coach, I see Auburn coming up as a program and I like the way (head) coach (Hugh) Freeze and coach Davis are working there.”

Carter is also considering Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Clemson. He has scheduled a visit to Clemson but is working on setting up more. Carter is the No. 4 wide receiver for the 2026 cycle and is the No. 5 overall recruit from Georgia.

NBA mock draft has Sixers selecting Devin Carter with No. 22 overall pick

An NBA mock draft has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting Providence guard Devin Carter with the No. 22 overall pick.

The Philadelphia 76ers have a much bigger focus at the moment: contending for the Larry O’Brien trophy in the 2023-24 season. However, it doesn’t hurt to look ahead to the offseason and see what the Sixers could add to the roster.

Philadelphia will be armed with substantial cap space. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey has done a great job of keeping the Sixers in contention right now while setting them up for the offseason as well.

In a mock draft performed by The Athletic, the Sixers use the No. 22 pick to select Devin Carter out of Providence:

Carter is one of the best players in college basketball this season, point blank. The son of former NBA point guard Anthony Carter, Devin was terrific last year at Providence after transferring from South Carolina, but his leap this season has been different. Carter has always been a terrific defensive player, rightfully nominated as a semifinalist for National Defensive Player of the Year. He is aggressive at the point of attack and has elite off-ball defensive instincts. But where the real jump has come is on offense. Long a questionable shooter, Carter has hit 40.5 percent of his nearly seven 3-point attempts per game. Shooting something of a moon ball that arcs high in the air before falling, he’s hitting shots at volume at a level that is hard to ignore on his way to 19.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The idea here is a 3-and-D guard who can do a little bit more than that.

On the season, Carter is averaging 19.2 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 40.5% from deep on 6.5 attempts per game. He has the potential to be a very reliable 3-and-D player, and the Sixers would benefit greatly from having a young player like him on the roster.
