New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers Game 6 odds and lines, with expert NHL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers face each other in Game 6 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals Saturday. The Devils lead the series 3-2. Puck drop from Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Devils vs. Rangers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers posted victories in the first 2 games on the road, scoring 10 total goals in the pair of wins. The New York offense has dried up in Games 3 through 5, posting a total of just 2 goals.

The Devils allowed the 10 goals in the first 2 in the series, but head coach Lindy Ruff switched up his goaltender from Vitek Vanecek to rookie Akira Schmid. The tendy change has been golden, as New Jersey has allowed just 2 total goals in the past 3 games, while lightning the lamp 9 times.

The Over cashed in the first 2 games of the series, but the Under has connected in each of the previous 3 outings. The underdog is 4-1 in this series, with the favorite cashing only in Game 5.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Akira Schmid (9-5-2, 2.13 GAA, .922 SV%, 1 SO – regular season) vs. Igor Shesterkin (37-13-8, 2.48 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO – regular season)

Schmid has gone from an unknown rookie to most casual fans, to the next potential star goaltender in just 3 games. He stopped all 23 shots he faced in a pivotal Game 5, posting his first-ever NHL playoff shutout, and just the 2nd one of his career.

Shesterkin allowed 3 goals on 42 shots in Game 5, but he has been getting zero offensive support in the past 3 outings. He is 2-3-0 despite a sparkling 1.75 GAA and .938 SV% in this series.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Devils 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-125) are a solid play on home ice, as New York looks to stop the bleeding in front of its raucous crowd.

Schmid has been a breath of fresh air for the Devils (+105), but I just don’t trust a rookie in an elimination game against an experienced tendy like Shesterkin. The former Vezina Trophy winner will lift the Rangers, single-handedly, to a victory in this game, staving off elimination for now.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Devils +1.5 (-250) means you need to risk 2 1/2 times your potential return. That’s just too much risk for not enough reward. Over the long term, it’s a poor betting strategy, even as part of a multi-team parlay ticket.

PASS.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (-130) is the lean, as Shesterkin has been on fire for the entire series, and Schmid has been a brick wall since he has entered the chat room.

The Under is 5-2 in the past 7 Conference Quarterfinals games for New Jersey, including 3-0 in the past 3 outings.

The Under is 4-0 in the past 4 games at MSG for the Rangers, too, while cashing at a 9-2-1 clip in the past 12 games when playing on a day of rest, too.

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers Game 4 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils battle the New York Rangers Monday in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The Rangers lead the series 2-1. Puck drop from Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Devils vs. Rangers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Devils picked up a much-needed win in Game 3 after losing the 1st 2 games on home ice in Newark. Jack Hughes scored in regulation, and Dougie Hamilton notched the game-winning goal in overtime for the 2-1 victory.

Coach Lindy Ruff elected to start rookie goaltender Akira Schmid in Game 3, benching Vitek Vanecek, and the 22-year-old Swiss backstop posted 35 saves for his 1st NHL postseason victory.

Chris Kreider scored for the Rangers, notching his 5th goal in the 3 games. He is the first Rangers players to score 5 goals in the 1st 3 games of a postseason. Kreider is +130 at BetMGM Sportsbook as an Anytime Goal Scorer for Game 4, by the way. Hughes, who has 2 goals in the first 3 games, is listed at +155.

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Akira Schmid (9-5-2, 2.13 GAA, .922 SV%, 1 SO – regular season) vs. Igor Shesterkin (37-13-8, 2.48 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO – regular season)

Schmid, the team’s 5th-round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced in his 1st-ever postseason appearance in Game 3. He replaced Vanecek, who was 33-11-4, 2.45 GAA, .911 SV% with 3 SO during regular season. Vanecek is 0-2-0 with a 4.52 GAA and .827 SV% in 2 starts in this series.

Shesterkin had been humming along in the 1st 2 games of the series, and he wasn’t bad in Game 3. He just didn’t get a lot of offensive support. Shesterkin stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in the OT loss, and he is now 2-1-0 with a 1.26 GAA and .950 SV% in 3 starts in this series.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Devils 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-155) are moderate favorites, and a good bet to win Game 4. The road team has each of the 1st 3 games in the series, and the home team is going to cash eventually.

Despite the win in Game 3, the Devils (+130) are still just 5-12 in the last 17 meetings with the Rangers, and 2-5 in the previous 7 trips to MSG.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Devils +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s too much if you require insurance, and you don’t want to pick New Jersey straight up.

The underdog has won and covered the last 3 in this series, and New York is 0-3 in the last 3 games as a favorite dating back to April 10 in the regular season. But it’s still too expensive. If you like Jersey, just bet it straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (+100) is the lean, and a solid value at even-money.

I am still a little dubious of Schmid, despite his success in Game 3. However, with Shesterkin at the other end, allowing just 4 total goals in this series so far, I’ll take my chances on the Under.

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (19-30-5) travel to meet the New York Rangers (34-15-5) Friday at Madison Square Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Devils vs. Rangers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Devils have alternated wins and losses over their last four games, and they enter this affair off a 4-3 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday. Jersey is 4-6 in its last 10 games and is next-to-last in the Metropolitan division.

The Rangers are coming off a quality 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues Wednesday, which snapped a two-game slide. They are in third place in the division and trail the Carolina Hurricanes by 6 points.

  • Money line: Devils +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Rangers -180 (bet $180 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Devils +1.5 (-180) | Rangers -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -125)

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Nico Daws (3-2-0, 2.79 GAA, .909 SV%) vs. Igor Shesterkin (26-6-3, 1.98 GAA, .940 SV%, 3 SO)

Daws came back to earth by allowing four 4 on 31 shots against the Blue Jackets Tuesday. He had rolled with 73 saves on 76 shots in the previous two games. This will be a big test for the 21-year-old German.

Shesterkin was touched for 3 goals in his last outing, which hasn’t happened since January. Talk is ramping up that he’s not only the leading Vezina award chase, but he’s a front runner for the Hart trophy as well. Shesterkin dominated the Devils last season with a 4-1-0 record, 1.54 GAA and .948 SV%.

Devils at Rangers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Devils 2

Money line

The RANGERS (-180) feel safe here at the lofty price tag. New York won the first meeting 4-3 in November via a shootout, and it has won seven in a row against its neighbors.

Shesterkin is also likely to be angry and motivated after allowing 3 goals in his last game to raise his league-leading 1.98 GAA.

Against the spread

The RANGERS -1.5 (+140) is a little risky since the offense has only carried them to three 2-goal wins in the last 10 outings. They’ll likely need an empty-netter late, but it’s worth a half-unit try.

Over/Under

Lean slightly to the UNDER 6.5 (-125) here.

The Under is 24-7-1 in the Rangers’ last 32 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. The Under is 5-1 in the Rangers’ last six as a home favorite; 5-0 in the Rangers’ last five against the Eastern Conference; and 4-0 in the Rangers’ last four games following a win.
