Former Auburn running back and defensive back Devan Barrett announced that he is transferring to the University of Incarnate Word (UIW) on Thursday. He spent this past season at Troy where he played defensive back.
Barrett was regarded as a four-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He chose Auburn over other schools like Indiana and Tennessee. The native of Tampa, Florida, spent his freshman season at running back on the Plains before he made the transition to defensive back as a sophomore. Over the next two seasons at Auburn, he played sparingly in the secondary.
In 2020, he opted out of the season due to COVID-19. In August of 2021, he elected to transfer to Troy. In the one season that he spent playing for the Trojans, he recorded eight tackles, one sack, and 1.5 tackles for loss in ten games total.
Now, Barrett is transferring to the FCS level to play for the Cardinals. He will continue to play defensive back. Last season, the Cardinals finished with a 10-3 record. It will be interesting to see how he finishes off his career in San Antonio.
