Detroit Red Wings at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Detroit Red Wings at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Red Wings (20-21-6) travel to meet the Philadelphia Flyers (15-22-8) Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Red Wings vs. Flyers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Red Wings fell 5-3 against the Los Angeles Kings at Little Caesars Arena prior to the All-Star break. Detroit has won just two of its last seven games and it hasn’t won in regulation in eight games since a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres Jan. 15.

After a franchise-worst 13-game losing skid, the Flyers picked up back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets Jan. 29-Feb. 1 prior to the All-Star break.

Red Wings at Flyers projected goalies

Alex Nedeljkovic (13-13-5, 2.90 GAA, .911 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Carter Hart (9-14-5, 2.80 GAA, .915 SV%, 1 SO)

Nedeljkovic has won just one of his last six starts dating back to Jan. 17, and he has allowed 3 or more goals in five of those outings. He has posted a 4-7-2 record, 2.79 GAA and .917 SV% on the road this season.

Hart has picked up consecutive victories for the first time since winning back-to-back games Dec. 10-14 at Vegas and home to New Jersey. He is 6-8-3 with a 2.83 GAA and .911 SV% at home this season.

Red Wings at Flyers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Flyers 4, Red Wings 2

Money line

The FLYERS (-112) are worth a look, as they finally appear to be piecing things together and going back to basics. Detroit has had tremendous difficulty against Philly over the years, going 1-14 in the past 15 trips to the City of Brotherly Love, and 7-19 in the past 26 meetings overall.

Against the spread

The FLYERS -1.5 (+205) is worth playing lightly for the chance to double up as Nedeljkovic has struggled to shut down the opposition lately. Even though it has had a hard time lighting the lamp over the past month or so Philly is still worth a small play.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-135) is worth playing lightly, as Nedeljkovic has allowed 3 or more goals in five of the past six outings and this series has seen the Over connect in seven of the past nine meetings in Philadelphia.

Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Carolina Hurricanes (20-6-1) play the Detroit Red Wings (8-17-4) in the second game of a two-game set Tuesday. Puck drop will be at 7:30 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena. Below, we analyze the Hurricanes-Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes -250 (bet $250 to win $100) | Red Wings +195 (bet $100 to win $195)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hurricanes -1.5 (+115) | Red Wings +1.5 (-140)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

James Reimer (12-3-0, 2.71 GAA, .908 SV%) vs. Thomas Greiss (1-11-4, 3.41 GAA, .883 SV%)

Reimer has picked up four wins in a row since a 3-1 Hurricanes loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning Feb. 25. He hasn’t yet faced the Red Wings this season, as he took a back seat to Alex Nedeljkovic in the front end of the back-to-back at LCA Sunday. Optimus Reim has allowed just five goals on 94 shots, good for a .947 SV%, over three games in March.

Greiss will be making his second appearance against the Hurricanes this season. He was the opening-night goalie, allowing two goals on 42 shots in a 3-0 setback Jan. 14. Greiss had his lone victory of the season Feb. 7 against the Florida Panthers; he is winless in his past six starts and seven appearances.

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 5, Red Wings 2

Money line (ML)

The Hurricanes (-250) are looking for their ninth consecutive victory, which is a rarity in Hartford Whalers/Hurricanes franchise history.

Still, as well as they have played, you cannot lay two and a half times your potential return. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+115) are a better value on the puck line, and they probably should have covered and won 2-0 Sunday; however, Wings W Anthony Mantha tipped one off of Hurricanes RW Sebastian Aho‘s skate with less than 10 seconds remaining to make it 2-1.

It was an unfortunate loss for puck-line bettors while spoiling Nedeljkovic’s shutout.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6 (-105) is the lean, but go really, really lightly. The Hurricanes aren’t the problem, as they have piled up 30 goals during their eight-game win streak.

They are playing good defense, yielding just 15 goals during the span, and that’s the concern. Can Detroit score enough to help push this over the finish line? Again, go lightly.

Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Carolina Hurricanes (19-6-1) meet the Detroit Red Wings (8-16-4) Sunday for the first of a two-game set. Puck drop will be at 5 p.m.

Lines last updated at 6:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes -225 (bet $225 to win $100) | Red Wings +190 (bet $100 to win $190)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hurricanes -1.5 (+120) | Red Wings +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

James Reimer (12-3-0, 2.71 GAA, .908 SV%) vs. Thomas Greiss (1-11-4, 3.41 GAA, .883 SV%)

Reimer has rattled off wins in four consecutive starts since a 3-1 setback at Tampa Bay on Feb. 25. He has been much better lately, too, coughing up just five goals on 94 shots in the month of March for a .947 SV%. This will be his first start against the Red Wings this season.

Greiss hasn’t won since Feb. 7 in Florida, a span of six starts and seven appearances. He has made one appearance this season against the Canes, and he was sharp. He allowed just two goals on 42 shots in a 3-0 loss on Jan. 14 at LCA, but goaltender Petr Mrazek was just much better than evening.

Special NHL Betting Promotion!

Bet $1 on either Detroit’s or Tampa Bay’s money line, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team scores a goal in the game. Betting offer available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV. Place your legal, online bets at BetMGM. New customer offer, terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Red Wings 2

Money line (ML)

The Hurricanes (-225) have been humming along lately, but risking more than two times your potential return on the road team is not a good wager. Remember, Carolina split a pair of games in Detroit earlier this season. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+120) have hit the puck line in four of the past five games, including a 5-2 victory over the Red Wings +1.5 (-145) at PNC Arena in Raleigh on March 4. Carolina has won seven in a row overall since Feb. 25.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-120) is the lean here. Yes, Reimer has been playing with a lot more confidence lately, but so has the Detroit offense.

They have rolled up a respectable 11 total goals in the past three outings while yielding 5.0 goals per game during the span. Look for another Over here.

Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

In a meeting of two of the NHL’s Original Six, the Chicago Blackhawks (0-3-1) host the Detroit Red Wings (2-2-0) Friday at United Center to open a two-game series at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Blackhawks-Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Red Wings at Blackhawks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:02 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Red Wings +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Blackhawks -140 (bet $140 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Red Wings +1.5 (-225) | Blackhawks -1.5 (+185)
  • Over/Under: 6.0 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Red Wings at Blackhawks: Projected starting goalies

Thomas Greiss (0-2, .930 SV%, 2.59 GAA) at Kevin Lankinen (0-0-1, .821 SV%, 4.79 GAA)

Greiss has played OK, as both his SV% and GAA are better than his career average. The problem is the Wings scored zero and 2 goals, respectively, in his two starts – they need to give him more help. Chicago averages 2.25 goals/game on 31.5 shots/game.

Lankinen, in his first NHL season, was in the starter’s net during Friday’s morning skate. He has just one game under his belt and gave up 5 goals on 30 shots in the process. Ouch. He won’t be as tested against the Wings, who average. 2.25 goals/game on 24.75 shots/game, but he’ll be a liability in this one.

Red Wings at Blackhawks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 2

Money line (ML)

The Blackhawks (-140) have only been competitive in one of their games, a 5-4 OT loss to the Florida Panthers Tuesday. Before that, the Blackhawks managed just 5 goals in three games.

The Red Wings (+120), coming off a 3-2 OT win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday, have shown more grit and hustle than they did a season ago, splitting their first two series with the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus so far.

It won’t be often I recommend a Wings ML bet, but it’s the best value here. BET DETROIT (+120).

Against the spread (ATS)

While the Red Wings are one of the NHL’s worst teams, the Blackhawks, who have scored two or less goals in three of four games, have looked worse. The Wings are 3-1 ATS; while not explosive, they’re staying with competition thus far. The Blackhawks are 1-3 ATS.

The oddsmakers have a lot of juice (-225) on the Wings at staying within 1.5 goals. It’s not a bad play. There just isn’t much profit – a $100 wager returns just $44.44 profit if Detroit outright wins or loses by just one goal. There is better value on the money line if you think the Wings can pull the upset. PASS on the puck line.

Over/Under (O/U)

It is tough to depend on two teams who lack much scoring punch, but these squads should be able to put on an OK showing and Chicago’s netminder has been awful. The total is set at 6 (Over: -120, Under +100/EVEN).

Chicago is 3-1 vs. the O/U, through very little of its own doing, but the Blackhawks are at least peppering the net. The Red Wings are 1-3 vs. the O/U. While this line is likely to move down half-a-point and my lean is the Under (+100), I’ll PASS on the Total.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Columbus Blue Jackets at Detroit Red Wings NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Columbus Blue Jackets (0-2-0) and Detroit Red Wings (1-1-0) square off Monday for a noon ET puck drop at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Below, we analyze the Blue Jackets-Red Wings NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Blue Jackets at Red Wings: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:20 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blue Jackets -165 (bet $165 to win $100) | Red Wings +140 (bet $100 to win $140)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blue Jackets -1.5 (+165) | Red Wings +1.5 (-200)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Blue Jackets at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Joonas Korpisalo (0-1-0, 2.05 GAA, .941 SV%) vs. Thomas Greiss (0-1-0, 2.04 GAA, .952 SV%)

Korpisalo was sharp in the opener Thursday in Nashville, making 32 saves on 34 shots. He was 2-0-0 with a 3.55 GAA and .851 SV% in two starts against the Red Wings last season.

Greiss was sharp in his team debut Thursday against Carolina, turning aside 40 of the 42 shots he faced, but he received no offensive support in the 3-0 loss. Greiss was 2-1-0 with a 2.25 GAA and .938 SV% in three starts last season against Columbus while a member of the New York Islanders.

Blue Jackets at Red Wings: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blue Jackets 4, Red Wings 2

Money line (ML)

The BLUE JACKETS (-165) are worth a roll of the dice as moderate chalk. Yes, they enter with two losses in two tries, but a visit against the Red Wings (+140) might be the elixir to cure their ills. Columbus has won 21 of the past 27 meetings overall against the Red Wings, including six consecutive victories at the LCA in Detroit. The favorite has also cashed in 42 of the previous 57 meetings in this series.

Detroit last won against Columbus on Oct. 30, 2018, and their most recent win at home against the Jackets came in a shootout Feb. 23, 2016. Their last victory at home in regulation vs. CLB was way back on Oct. 15, 2013.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BLUE JACKETS -1.5 (+165) are a decent play due to their dominance in this series in the past. Plus, the Red Wings +1.5 (-200) are coming off a win against the Hurricanes. The Wings haven’t won consecutive games since Jan. 7-10, a span of 28 games. And they won two or more straight games on just five occasions last season. In addition, two of Detroit’s three losses to Columbus last season were by two or more goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit play. While the Red Wings have four total goals in the first two games, the Over has connected in four of the previous five meetings with the Jackets. This won’t go Over easily, and it might take an empty-net goal late for a winning ticket, but it will hit.

Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Red Wings open their 2020-21 NHL regular season against each other Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. ET puck drop at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Below, we analyze the Hurricanes-Red Wings NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:31 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes -225 (bet $225 to win $100) | Red Wings +185 (bet $100 to win $185)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hurricanes -1.5 (+125) | Red Wings +1.5 (-155)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Petr Mrazek (21-16-2, 2.69 GAA, .905 SV%) at Thomas Greiss (16-9-4, 2.74 GAA, .913 SV%)

Mrazek is expected to get the first crack at the starting duties for head coach Rod Brind’Amour, and it will be special facing his original organization in the opener on the road, even if there are no fans in attendance. Mrazek picked up a pair of wins against the Red Wings last season, going 2-0-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .912 SV% in two starts, and he was 1-1-0 with a 2.05 GAA and .919 SV% in the prior season.

Greiss is expected to make his team debut, and he should be a good, steady veteran force in the crease for a young team going through a rebuild. While he was just 0-1-2 in three appearances against the Canes last season while a member of the New York Islanders, he has a respectable 2.59 GAA and .919 SV% in his three starts.

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Red Wings 2

Money line (ML)

The Hurricanes (-225) will cost you two times your potential return, which is rather risky on the road in the opener when we haven’t seen either side. Greiss is a nice add for the Red Wings (+185), and he will keep the home side in it to the end. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

If you going to bet on a winner, take the HURRICANES -1.5 (+125) at plus-money, rather than the more expensive money line play. The Red Wings shored up their crease with Greiss, but they still managed a league-low 145 goals with a terrible minus-122 goal differential. Until they prove they’re much better, keep fading them with the opponent on the puck line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6 (-110) is a good play based upon Detroit’s struggles to score last season. Carolina has a tremendous and powerful young offensive nucleus, and high-scoring rearguard Dougie Hamilton is healthy and raring to go. But they should have their hands full trying to solve Greiss. This one should come in just under the number.
