Pistons at Bulls picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 117, Pistons 109

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Pistons haven’t had their top-2 scoring options for the last few weeks and have struggled, losing 11 of their last 12. Detroit doesn’t seem to be competitive in most games either. Pass on their moneyline value.

Similarly, the Bulls are too expensive at (-250) to play here.

Against the spread

LEAN BULLS -5.5 (-115).

The Bulls are 3-2 ATS in their last 5 games and 3-3 ATS over their last 6 home games. Chicago is 20-19-1 ATS at home this season while Detroit is 17-30-2, the league’s 9th-worst covering rate in that situation.

The Pistons are 4-7-1 ATS in their last 12. They have failed to score more than 108 in 3 of their last 4 games, so their offense has struggled without many key weapons.

Ultimately, considering the situation each team is in and the health factors, take BULLS -5.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Not available when published, but if the line is set at 220.5, bet the Over.

The Pistons have gone Over in 5 straight games and in 6 of their last 7. The Bulls have gone Over in 2 of their last 4 and are 6-2-1 O/U in their last 9 games. Chicago has scored at least 115 in 3 of their last 5 games as well.

The Pistons rank 21st in defensive rating since the All-Star break. The Bulls rank 9th in true shooting percentage (60%) since the All-Star break as well. Scoring should be easy for the home side.

Pistons at Bulls picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 120, Pistons 111

Moneyline

PASS.

Detroit has been awful on the road, and Chicago has won 4 of its last 5. The Bulls to win is the smart play, but at -340, it is unplayable.

Against the spread

BET BULLS -8.5 (-108).

After the reports came out of internal chemistry issues between G Zach LaVine and F DeMar DeRozan, the Bulls have played much better. The riff may be over as they’ve covered 4 of their last 5.

They should get an easier matchup here, and their weakness in defending the 3 (ranking 29th in opponents’ 3-point percentage at 37.4%) won’t be abused by Detroit which sits 16th in 3s made per game (11.6).

Detroit’s defense is terrible as well, allowing 118.5 points per game (29th). Chicago ranks 6th in FG percentage (48.3%). Their efficiency mixed with Detroit’s defensive struggles should result in a Bulls cover.

Back BULLS -8.5 (-108).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 229.5 (-115).

Chicago has gone Over in 3 straight and in 7 of its last 10. It has scored at least 118 in 3 in a row as well.

It allows 115 per game, so while Detroit isn’t the strongest offensively without Cunningham, the Bulls’ defensively weak backcourt without Caruso or G Lonzo Ball should allow for easy buckets.

Detroit has gone Over in 4 of its last 6. Ultimately, back the OVER 229.5 (-115).

Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (0-1) take the short trip south to visit the Chicago Bulls (2-0) at the United Center Saturday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pistons vs. Bulls odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The revamped Chicago Bulls have been terrific so far this season, crushing the New Orleans Pelicans Friday and downing the Pistons to kick off the season Wednesday.

The additions of PG Lonzo Ball and SG Alex Caruso have helped create a true contender. SG Zach LaVine, C Nikola Vucevic, and SG DeMar DeRozan bring the star power.

The Pistons led at times in their season opener against Chicago and get another crack at the Bulls. Detroit drafted G Cade Cunningham first overall but he’s yet to see the floor as he deals with an ankle injury.

Detroit is led by SF Jerami Grant who put up 24 points in the two teams’ first matchup.

Pistons at Bulls odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 108, Pistons 102

Money line

PASS on the money line.

I would prefer to “lean” the Pistons after playing a solid game against the Bulls to open the season. However, I’m not confident enough that they can string together competent offensive possessions. Grant should lead again after bringing the only real threat in the opener, but it’s unlikely to be enough.

At -450 everyone should stay away from the Bulls money line.

Against the spread

BET on the PISTONS +8.5 (-110) as the best value in this game.

The Pistons covered for just about the entire game at home in their opener and lost the spread for those backing Detroit in the last minute of action. It was a painful beat as the Pistons ended as 5.5 underdogs and lost by 6.

I’m all over them getting 8.5 points, especially considering their offensive potency. While Grant is the only consistent threat, G Saddiq Bey can come alive and C Isaiah Stewart should have a greater impact.

With veterans on the bench as well, the more well-rested Detroit should be electric from the start. Chicago is 2-0 against the spread and Detroit is 0-1.

The Pistons held the Bulls to just 14 points in the first quarter in the opener.  Detroit should look to improve offensively after scoring just 88 and hopefully tame Chicago’s offense.

Over/Under

“LEAN” on the UNDER 213.5 (-108). The Under is getting a little juice here as it’s almost too low for an NBA game.

However, the Bulls, with Ball, DeRozan, and Vucevic, aren’t an elite shooting side, averaging under 11 threes per game. The Pistons showed little offensively as well, often relying solely on Grant to get the job done.

While Chicago has a ton of talent, scoring against a lengthy Pistons team is not easy. Also, Chicago just put up 128 against New Orleans, a team missing superstar F Zion Williamson, which might have helped boost this total a bit.

Expect the Bulls’ halfcourt offense to come out on top with both teams playing a slower style. They should look to flash their depth as well which could keep players like LaVine with fewer minutes.
