Nets at Pistons: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nets 123, Pistons 112

Money line (ML)

The Nets are struggling of late, dropping three of their last four games. Durant missed their last game against the Philadelphia 76ers, a 124-108 loss, but they also fell to the Raptors the night before. Irving and SG James Harden were available for that game while Durant started late and was lifted in the third quarter for COVID protocols.

That being said, even without Durant Tuesday night, the Nets should have no trouble with the Pistons. Detroit has lost four in a row and eight of its last 10.

Against the spread (ATS)

The spread has bounced between 6.5 and 7.5 points in the Nets’ favor, and either way, I like them to cover. The Pistons don’t have the scorers to keep up with the Nets’ top-ranked offense, which has averaged 121.5 points per game this season.

With Irving probable to play and Harden also set to be in the lineup, the NETS -6.5 (-110) should cover fairly easily Tuesday night.

Over/Under (O/U)

In the Nets’ last 19 games, the total has gone Over 17 times. Even as poorly as the Pistons have played of late, the Over is still 8-4 in their last 12 games.

The Nets will get back on track Tuesday night after dropping two straight and help push the total OVER 229.5 (-110) against the Pistons, who will also take advantage of Brooklyn’s struggling defense (29th in PPG).

The Lakers are one of the best teams in the league and have won three in a row and seven of 10. However, they are not great at home, having lost four of their last six games this season there. They are 5-4 in L.A. But the Pistons are bad. They are 1-10 on the road and have lost three straight and eight of 10. This is a lock for the Lakers, but you won’t win hardly any money on it. You have to lay down $100 just to win $10, so PASS on the money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Lakers and Pistons are close in terms of ATS records. L.A. is 12-11 ATS and Detroit is 11-10-1 ATS. However, the Pistons were blown out by the Phoenix Suns Friday night and have to play the back end of a back-to-back on the road – where they struggle against a rested Lakers team. That said, Detroit is 5-1 ATS on no rest and 3-1 ATS with a rest disadvantage. That shouldn’t matter. They have not covered the spread in any of the three games they played on their road trip and will likely get blown out again. Take the LAKERS -13.5 (-110). 

Over/Under (O/U)

Pistons at Suns: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Money line (ML)

The Suns have cooled off from their hot start, losing six of their last 10 games and three of their last four at home. However, the Pistons have only won one game all season on the road. The Suns already lost to the Pistons earlier this season in one of their most disappointing games of the year.

They will miss Crowder on defense and for spacing the floor, and Saric’s absence has been felt as well, but they are still sixth in the league in defensive efficiency while the Pistons are 24th in offensive efficiency. Take the SUNS (-375).

Against the spread (ATS)

The Suns’ overall record mirrors perfectly their record against the spread. In every win, they have covered the spread, and in every loss, they failed to do so. Detroit is 11-9-1 ATS this season and beats the spread by 2.1 points per game. Phoenix has won three of four overall, and they have covered the spread in three of their last four games. Take the SUNS -8.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Phoenix still has one of the lowest Over percentages in the league at 40 percent. The Suns’ loss earlier this season to Detroit went Under the total but would have been Over tonight’s total by half a point. Two of the Pistons’ last three games have gone Under. Both teams combine to average 218 points and allow a combined 221 points per game. With the total at 214.5, take OVER 214.5 POINTS (-110).

The Pistons traveled to Salt Lake City after having Monday’s game in Denver postponed due to COVID-19 concerns and contact tracing on the Detroit roster. They re-tested players and it looks like Tuesday’s game will be played as scheduled, but stay tuned throughout the day.

As far as wagers, the red-hot Jazz (-750) should rough up the Pistons, but you can’t risk seven and a half times your potential return. It’s amateur hour, and just not good long-term wagering strategy.

AVOID, and look to the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The JAZZ -12.5 (-115) have a heavy number, but they have been taking down all comers lately. They were cooled off with a 128-117 loss in Denver Sunday, but they won their previous 11, and have gone 11-1 ATS during the span, too. They’ll restart a new streak.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 218.5 (-115) is a decent small-unit play, but you might be waiting deep into the fourth quarter before you hit the finish line. Utah ranks ninth in the NBA with 113.6 PPG, and Detroit allows 112.7 PPG, so the Jazz are gonna get theirs.

The concern is the Pistons, and if they’ll be able to solve the defense of the Jazz. The good news is this should be a blowout, so garbage time equals a lot of points.

The Nuggets (-450) will cost you way too much money. There is no way to justify risking four and a half times your potential return on most standalone money line wagers. It’s just not a successful long-term strategy.

Against the spread (ATS)

The NUGGETS -9.5 (-110) played Sunday, so I am a little worried about fatigue, but they should be able to dump the Pistons by double digits. Denver enters on a 6-1 ATS run across its past seven games.

Detroit is horrible and should offer very little resistance in the middle trying to slow Nuggets C Nikola Jokic. “The Joker” leads the team in points (26.8), rebounds (11.8), assists (8.6), field-goal percentage (57.4) and steals (1.8). Pistons C Mason Plumlee is going to stop him? Please. It’s going to be ugly.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 220.5 (-110) is the way to go in this Mile High City clash. The Nuggets are a high-octane offense with 116.6 points per game, ranking fourth, while allowing 111.7 PPG to rank 19th. The Over has connected in six of the past seven games for the Nuggets. While the Pistons struggle to put up points (108.4 PPG), they’re terrible on defense with 112.7 PPG allowed, ranking 20th. Denver is going to roll up a ton of points here.

They’re not quite as dominant as their championship years, but good times are here again for Golden State at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the OVER 224.5 (-110), but it’s only worth a small-unit play. The Over is 4-1 in the past five games for the Warriors, while going 6-2 across the past eight for the Pistons. Coming off a last-second loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Lakers are huge money line favorites against the Pistons. Both teams lost Wednesday night.

The Lakers should win as they are 10-1 on the road but there just isn’t enough value on the money line to pick them. PASS in favor of the point spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The PISTONS +7.5 (-115) have lost five of their last six games but can they keep this game within double-digits Thursday? That doesn’t too unlikely as the Lakers have a tendency to sleepwalk and play down to their competition most nights. While they usually find ways to win, they don’t always cover and 9.5 points feels like too big of a margin in this one.

Take Detroit to stay within 7 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 213.5 (-110) feels like the smart play in this matchup as both teams average at least 109 points per game. The Lakers currently are the No. 7 scoring offense in the NBA, averaging 113.9 points per game. Detroit scores 109.4 PPG, but its offense has been better of late.

The 76ers (-250) will cost you two-and-half times your potential return, and that’s always a risky proposition. The Pistons (+200) are horrible, although they might get a bump with the return of Blake Griffin. Still, it’s uncertain how effective he will be if he can play. Either way, AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The PISTONS +6.5 (-110) are a decent play getting points. While they have been downright awful this season, tasting victory straight up just three times, they’re a respectable 7-4-1 ATS across the past 12.

Money line (ML)

76ERS (-275) is the smart play here even though, they are coming off a win last night against the Celtics. Philadelphia handled Boston in that game, but the quick turnaround is likely why the odds are suppressed some here.

An upset wouldn’t be a total shock but, expect the 76ers to ultimately take care of business. Philadelphia has now won six straight games against the Pistons and has covered the spread in all six of those contests.

Against the spread (ATS)

76ERS -6.5 (-110) should hit on Saturday night as Philadelphia is 9-6-1 ATS this season and its previous three wins have been by at least eight points.

Detroit is in a huge slump right now as they have lost 17 of their last 20 games and haven’t been all that competitive. They are coming off a loss against the Rockets on Friday night, but that game was a tad closer. Still, take the 76ers to win and cover in this Eastern Conference matchup.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 217.5 (-110) looks like a good bet on Saturday night as the 76ers are starting to get into a groove on offense. They’ve averaged more than 114 points per game this season and C Joel Embiid is taking the next step as a scorer.

While Detroit is far from an elite offense, they can get to 106-108 points on a nightly basis. If they can do that in this game, the Over should have no problem hitting at all.
