Deshaun Watson trade Rumors: Peter King gives Eagles the best odds to land Texans QB

Peter King says the Eagles are favorites to trade for Deshaun Watson

The NFL draft is history, DeVonta Smith is an Eagle and even as the team appears set to build around Jalen Hurts, Deshaun Watson still hovers over the organization.

During his Football Morning In America release for this week, Peter King weighed in on Watson’s legal saga and the teams who could still have an interest in trading for the embattled quarterback.

King made no guarantees and went with “his gut feeling”, but he did insert the Eagles in as favorites to land Watson when his legal issues are settled.

“3-1: Philadelphia. A likely need, plus Eagles are in perfect position to deal with three first-round picks (if Carson Wentz plays three-quarters of the Indy season).”

The Eagles and GM Howie Roseman have been linked to Watson for months now and with sexual assault allegations and civil suits lingering, Jeffrey Lurie and Philadelphia’s decision-makers would have to be convinced that the Texans star could be a good fit going forward.

Deshaun Watson rumors: Eagles among team continuing to monitor a potential trade for Texans QB

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles are continuing to monitor a potential trade for Deshaun Watson

As the Eagles proceed with their offseason and make plans for the 2021 NFL Draft, the presence of a potential trade for Deshaun Watson still looms.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that Philadelphia is among the teams monitoring the quarterback’s legal situation while continuing to do due diligence on a possible trade.

Several NFL teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins, are monitoring the latest Watson legal developments, which have complicated any efforts to trade for him. The Texans, according to sources, haven’t engaged in trade discussions and have been in more of a listening mode as they concentrate on overhauling their roster following a 4-12 season.

It makes you believe that if not for Watson’s legal situation, the Eagles may have already pulled the trigger on a deal for the Texans’ star.

The due diligence is normal and a part of the process with the Eagles, but the fact that Philadelphia is still being linked to Watson despite the legal matters, lets you know that the franchise still isn’t completely sold on Jalen Hurts as the quarterback going forward.

Eagles GM willing to trade everything for Texans QB Deshaun Watson?

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would reportedly trade everything to land Texans star QB Deshaun Watson.

One day after a report surfaced suggesting the Eagles were “a strong suitor” for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, Jeff McLane of The Inquirer has confirmed that general manager Howie Roseman has been doing his normal due diligence on a big named player that could be available.

Despite the Eagles saying all the correct things about Jalen Hurts, the team has yet to formally commit to him as the starter going forward.

According to McLane, the Eagles have in fact inquired about trading for Watson in some form or fashion.

“Howie will give up everything he has for Watson,” an NFL source familiar with the Eagles’ thinking said.

McLane’s report is consistent with what every general manager around the league has done for months, and that’s monitor Watson’s availability from afar.

The first option appears unlikely after Roseman passed on free agents who would have fallen under a “competition/backup” category. The second is a long shot, even if two independent NFL sources confirmed a CBS Sports report that the Eagles recently inquired about trading for Watson.

The 26-year-old former Clemson star is coming off a career year in 2020 from a statistics standpoint, making his third straight Pro Bowl while throwing for 33 TDs to seven interceptions, and averaging 8.9 yards per attempt.

Watson also completed almost 71% of his passes in 2020.

Things are now even more complicated on that front, as Watson is currently dealing with what is allegedly 3 civil lawsuits in which he’s accused of sexual assault, with more suits reportedly on the way.

Watson has vehemently denied those allegations.
