Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide have once again struck gold on the recruitment trail as they landed a commitment from five-star PF Derrion Reid over Georgia and Florida State. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Reid is the No. 14 overall player in the 2024 recruiting cycle and the No. 1 player out of the state of California. Even though he’s ranked 14th in the class, some people like college basketball expert Jeff Goodman are much higher on Reid and believe he could contest Cooper Flagg as the top player in the class.
Reid becomes the fourth highest rated recruit in Tide Hoops history behind only Collin Sexton, Brandon Miller and JD Davison. Reid joins Aiden Sherrell and Naasir Cunningham in Alabama’s 2024 class as all three are top-50 recruits. In fact, Sherrell is actually the sixth-highest rated recruit in program history.
The 6-foot-7 forward spent the spring and summer playing in the Nike EYBL circuit where he averages 17.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.1 apg and shot 40% from three-point land. When asked about his decision, Reid said, “I love their play style and the coaches. Coach Oats gets his players better. I believe I can make an immediate impact and get better in all aspects of my game so I can get to the league. Coach Oats is a great person to be around and learn from.”
Alabama lands Derrion Reid – multi-dimensional forward who may have been my favorite player to watch in the Class of 2024 (before Cooper Flagg reclassed).
Plays hard, scores from all 3 levels, switchable on defense.
Hell of a pickup for Nate Oats and the Tide.
